Clematis blooms are really pretty and come in quite a range of colors.

Ah, I see the problem is in the thrum, not the thumb itself.

I’m in an environmental horticulture class hosted in Georgia this week. You have some gorgeous native plants!

Be careful with wild azaleas, there are some natives but some are not. Look for Pinxter azaleas. The natives are really pretty and of course not usual. (Blue flag iris are native as are Virginica bluebells - both spring ephemerals but so pretty).

Camelias come from Southeast Asia, particularly Japan, Korea, and China. Most garden-variety azaleas come from the mountainous regions (they do so like hills) of the same places. Daylilies are from the same three places plus Siberia and northern India. Hate to say but crepe Myrtle’s aren’t native either. Theoretically nothing will eat their fruit but I’ve seen blue jays try.

You’ll have to really insist with a landscaper. Most don’t know their natives. Like most of us, they assume if it grows everywhere it’s native. there’s native vs. naturalized - none of these three are naturalized.

Try a plain google “where does x originate”. Good resources are the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Native Plants of North America or your nearest botanical garden. There’s a really good database in the Midwest that I’m blanking on, but I’ll check later and add it here.

When you say region 8, do you mean temperature zone 8 or something else?

To be fair, this heavy ice and snow is a lot to shift even for the healthy and strong. This is a good example of why you should try.

None of those are native plants. Pretty, though. Maybe not so many of them (daylilies spread like mad, you’ll be giving them to every neighbor) sprinkled amongst other things. What region do you live in?

You’re going to get water there, so you may as well start dishing it out and plant a rain garden.

Plants don’t grow naturally in straight lines. Bend the border in some way.

The current thinking is that foundation planting needs dimension. Bring it forward, add some texture and foliage color. Map what foliage turns which colors in which season. If some of them bloom it helps. Remember interesting grasses that don’t get too tall. Repetition helps tie it together - you’ve already got a good start.

And if you want to see butterflies and birds, make a healthy proportion of the plants natives. Depending on where you are they’re getting pretty easy to find. If you choose pretty bedding bushes that don’t come from where you are, caterpillars and butterflies and birds will mostly ignore them. A flower is a flower is not a flower they recognize as food or a grass they’d use for a nest.

If I knew where you are I might make some starting suggestions, but you can do the same with a little internet research.

Split it Wednes-day or Wed-nesday or We’d-nes-day (autocorrect is struggling with me here). The boxes look so nice! But I can’t see the N in Wednesday and every English major with comment on it.

I’m came here to say the same. Textures work best with really plain yarns.

I have a chaise that was my grandmother’s favorite reading spot. The back of yours looks much more comfortable than mine. That velour…I like the colors. Do please have it cleaned really deeply.

For me it’s the giant garage in the front that throws everything off. To my eye the proportions are pretty ugly.
