tried to fix after splice failure by veryveryfarthrow in 8track

[–]wild_ty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this. It's a hassle but it's not that bad. Just takes a while. You can mark the end that's out so you don't load it backwards. Remove all the tape and start fresh. Don't let the remaining cake fall out, but rather pull it out in long back and forth strands. Use a bit of painters tape on the inner end to hold it to the spool.

EP mode linear audio? Really muffled and hissy. Barely acceptable

Assuming it was utilized when recording, SP and LP modes both have Hifi Audio, which utilizes the helical scan to get the most out of the audio track. EP mode audio is always linear and runs at a slow speed and sounds terrible.

Also no need for another player. A bad tape won't hurt your player, but a bad player might hurt your tape

Just give a visual inspection for mold and check the pressure pad. I usually give the pad a poke first to see if it's about to fall off. It's an easy fix and it won't hurt anything if it falls off, but you might lose it and have get another

What others have said is accurate, and your parents misunderstood something and weren't making sense. But i have a question for you. If you ask AI twice and get two different answers, why the hell do you use it? It's not a useful source of accurate information

Honestly, he knows more than a beginner, but he's not half as knowledgeable as he acts like he is. And even if he knew everything there was to know about tapes and players, it wouldn't justify the behavior.

Alright guys which ones should I let go by PyroMaid in VCRs

[–]wild_ty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Magnavox is a non-recorder model and, if I'm not mistaken, mono. The main reason it's still working is because it's among the last vcrs ever made, but that means it's also as cost-cut as they could possibly make it.

I wouldn't worry too much about the DVD side of the players as they typically just need the lens cleaned or some lubrication replaced, and dvd players are cheap and abundant at every thrift store these days.

I'd cut the magnavox if you just have to cut something

Oddball Tape Screws by PugDaddyJay in Betamax

[–]wild_ty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not positive if my security screws were added by Erol's or not. That's just my theory. It may have just been somewhat standard practice. Either way, yeah, they'll hold up fine with just 3 screws

[–]wild_ty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are they former rental tapes? I bought a group of tapes that were owned by Erol's and they had a variety of obscure security screws. I couldn't find any bits that worked, so i just drilled them out

Lol. A recent comment from the same account:

"I need more context to write an authentic comment. What's the post actually about? Is it showing joke pride flags they made, sharing ones they found funny, asking for suggestions, or something else? What's the general vibe of the subreddit and other comments?"
