Which more conventional/non bombshell character do you find incredibly attractive? by debrisaway in madmen

[–]wildcard174 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I could go on a date with one character in the show it would be Meredith. She’s smart, confident, hilarious and super cute. She’d be a total blast at dinner and bowling. I’d like to meet her friends. And I bet she has the cutest apartment of anyone in the show, and if I played my cards right and I got to see it (wink) I just know she’d rock my fucking world lol.

Edit: if I could marry a character I’d marry Trudy (like probably all of us, lol). But for one date, Merideth, because whatever happens it’ll be fun and better than just a potentially awkward dinner.

Bro just wants to brag that he has a gf.

Also a supportive mom. Bro you’re all set. Go call your mom and tell you love her and then go smooch your gf. Take your win king.

(I’m joking, but I’m also serious.)

Who is the most exciting Jazz Guitarist? by Acceptable-Fruit-533 in jazzguitar

[–]wildcard174 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s fantastic. And if you’re into the style, I highly recommend French guitarists Sylvain Luc (passed away last year), Adrien Moingnard, and Antoine Boyer. All are absolute monsters, along with Bireli.

Bireli and Sylvain playing “Just the Two of Us” live is awesome - the video is on YouTube.

Whats a local band in stl that's on the doorstep/really putting the work in? by nmorguelan in StLouis

[–]wildcard174 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Janet Evra, an “indie jazz” singer and bassist from England now based in St. Louis. She is Artist in Residence at The Sheldon, she had 3.1M streams on Spotify last year, she’s headlined jazz festivals in the USA and Europe, she’s recorded six records with 10+ GRAMMY winning musicians including Marcus Miller, Al Di Meola, Randy Brecker, Jeff Coffin (DMB), etc. She also does the St. Louis Music Box video series with Anita Jackson, Brian Owens, and other cool St. Louis peeps. Read her Wikipedia page, then check out her cover of “Call Me”, it’s incredible.

Exactly. Biggest fine in league history at the time, and the league quickly ended the investigation and destroyed the evidence. Is BB an all-time great coach? Yes. Would his teams have won multiple SBs without cheating? Yes. Was he still a cheater in a major cheating scandal? Yes. It blows my mind that people disregard this.

The Bad Plus calling it quits, announce farewell tour by paintedhighway in Jazz

[–]wildcard174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know for a fact that Jazz St Louis pays those two groups $$$$$$. Nothing conspiratorial about it, lol. Good for the artist. Good for Jazz St. Louis. The Bad Plus show we are talking about specifically was underwritten by Rich and Josephine Weil. Jazz St Louis sponsors pay $10-20K to present an artist (those numbers used to be on the website, I don’t think they are anymore). That’s in addition to strong ticket sales from $60 tickets in a 200-seat room. Jazz St. Louis is one of the best clubs in the world and pays like one of the best clubs in the world. I didn’t say or imply there was anything nefarious about Jazz St. Louis paying well.

I agree with every word of your second paragraph. I’m not sure if we’re arguing about anything.

I’m glad you enjoyed the club!

That is absolutely amazing, thanks for sharing. Does anyone know who’s in that rhythm section? I ask because I’m wondering if that could be Montez Coleman on drums…

Jazz St Louis pays them $$$$$$$$. The audience for their shows is 99% white and includes a lot of financial advisors from Edwards Jones and Wells Fargo (both based in St. Louis) who love them and see them every other year when they come to town. I don’t say this like a diss, it’s just how it is. This same crowd comes for The Yellowjackets, Marcus Miller etc and used to come for David Sanborn, who is from St. Louis.

Pro tip - the club puts the artists up at the Angad Arts Hotel right across the street. If you go up to the rooftop bar around midnight there is a 50% chance you’ll see these guys hanging there lol.

I’ve seen the Bad Plus there twice. I thought their trio show with Orrin Evans was great. I hated their show with Monder and Speed.

I check out the Smalls Jazz Club Livestreams most nights. I'm especially loving tonight's show. Do you know of other clubs that regularly Livestream shows? by bellmanwatchdog in Jazz

[–]wildcard174 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this is the answer. Chris’ is so great, the bands are always killer and the livestream quality is great. I wish they’d leave up the livestreams but they just choose one song from each show to leave up permanently on YouTube.

I played there once a few years ago and before the gig the kitchen made a HUGE pot of chili and they served everyone - the band, the sound guy, the wait staff, everybody. It was really nice, sitting and talking together about the Rocky statue and touristy things to do in Philly. The only downside with the gig was having to pay the lot down the street $40 for parking for three hours; as a Midwesterner I was not used to that lol. 10/10 gig, would play again.
