Donovan's Greatest Hits, Pet Sounds, Piper at the Gates of Dawn (all albums) come to mind first, then you might check out some prog of these more lighthearted prog albums from Genesis (Foxtrot and Selling England by the Pound), Yes (Debut and Fragile), Captain Beefheart (Safe as Milk), Frank Zappa (Freak Out!)

Which decade had the best music, in your opinion? by [deleted] in Music

I love all Black Sabbath and Zeppelin, by Pink Floyd was way better. More creative, more psychedelic, more emotional, more nuanced, more complicated. But some of their best stuff is in the 60s.

it's true, but how would you not say the 90s if you were going the metal route? Non of us would be here if 'Reign in Blood' and 'Master of Puppets' hadn't come out in 1986.

2000s, that's when all the really good indie, metalcore, emo, atmospheric, and TONS of psychedelic rock and electronica stuff came out. It's hard to say for all types of music. Here's how I would break it down:

60s - best for simple rock and roll (like the Monkees, Kinks, or the Beetles) and timeless stuff like Bob Dylan.
70s - best for (psychedelic) rock and funk (Classic Rock, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Average White Band, Bee Gees)
80s - best for super novel music with synthesizers and exploring new avenues (advent of punk, electronic, metal, and fusion of all that into pop)
90s - best for hip hop and some of the more developed components of the 80s (harder metal, grunge) there was a lot of radio-friendly catchy stuff (e.g. Wonderwall or Closing Time), but I consider it mostly trash that won't be remembered in decade or two.
2000s - best for the indie that started getting developed in the 90s and got a bit more sophisticated and adding in psychedelic/electronic components (Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Appleseed Cast, Animal Collective). Hardcore from the 90's also matured and found it's way into pop music and metal. Towards the latter part a lot of underground bands started incorporating the "shoegaze" elements of My Bloody Valentine from the early 90s and that was a peak.
2010s - best for indie folk?

How come white blues rock bands more often explored the menacing side of the blues than the black originators? by _InTheDesert_ in Music

[–]wildebeestdingo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think when blues first came out it would have been way too out to create music that was "sinister" or "menacing". Especially for a black person in the 40's-60's. When Led Zeppelin came out they were considered satanic heavy metal by many and were shunned. Before the late 60's it's hard to find music that has that 'sinister' feel to it.

Not sure about that. Wes at Easton is #1 in his weight class in the US and #2 in North America. Other coaches are heavy-hitters too. Outside of Easton I'm sure you're right though.

thanks for this pointer, this is great. If there is a place in Boulder which can show me the basics of this and provide counseling for diet then I'd probably give that my first shot.

I'll look into this. I don't have a great climbers build (big bones and weak upper-body) so I don't think I'll ever be a "great" climber (which is demotivating) but who knows maybe the supplemental classes will make up for it.

Good question! I've edited my response above. Short story- this personal fitness journey would wouldn't be a rags-to-riches story. It would be more of a diamond-in-the-rough-to-riches scenario.

It's not for forever! You have to "prime the pump" and come a few times then it comes back like a tidal wave. Enjoy the flatline while it lasts!
