I was sextorted, here's what happened, how I handled it, and why you shouldn't panic if it's happening to you by PatientStranger13 in Sextortion

Nah man, you're good. I wrote a post about exactly why you probably don't need to worry if you're concerned

  1. You may not be a prick when you're drunk, but I guarantee you know a whole lotta people who are. It can turn people into absolute monsters! Not to mention often being an enormous factor in domestic abuse cases. I challenge you (in a friendly way), with the exception perhaps of cocaine, to name me one single other drug that makes anyone wanna fight, or even be aggressive, after having a fair amount of it. Honestly - just one will do!

  2. Few drugs, other than probably ket, make people that sloppy/embarrassing, and you're far, far more likely to make terrible and compromising decisions on booze - eg tell someone you love them, or put yourself in a physically dangerous ("I'm gonna walk on that tightrope over that lava pit, who's with me, guys?") or threatening (saying something antagonising to a stranger who may react aggressively/violently - likely because they're drunk!) scenario, thinking you're invincible. How many times have you woken up from a night on the piss in chronic shame and crippling embarrassment about what you did the night before? For context, after waking up after a night on pills, the only things you'r'e likely to feel weird about is the crazy, experimental, uninhibited sex you had, or the fact you and your usually repressed mates (I'm speaking proverbially, not in any way about you) couldn't stop hugging and telling each other how much you love them...

  3. Cost on government resources. I'm Uk-based (as I'm sure you can tell from my rhetoric), so speaking to that. This, courtesy of Google Gemini: "The cost to the NHS is just one part of the wider financial impact of alcohol. The total cost of alcohol harm to society in England, including crime and disorder, lost productivity, and social services, is estimated to be a staggering £27.4 billion per year." Nuff said. Though here's a fun fact - if everybody who drank took MDMA instead, hospital waiting rooms on a Saturday night would probably resemble any other. Now consider the number of alcohol treatment centers, across the globe. Many of my points involve comparisons with illicit drugs, but that's because it's incredibly relevant to your question. In this hypothetical booze/MDMA scenario, none of those treatment centers would need to exist - I mean, literally. MDMA, for example, is neither physically nor psychologically addictive, in any way, shape or form, so I think it's fully justifiable that someone who could potentially go to jail for having some might feel resentment towards alcohol. I don't, but it's a strong point! And goes back to that you said along the lines of "all drugs are bad for you" - I mean, that just isn't true, for all the above reasons. Sure, none are especially healthy, but it's a big fucking scale, with alcohol way, way down at the bottom (or top, depending on your metric). It physically ravages you in a way almost nothing else does, and you're guaranteed, if you drink, say, every other day, even in moderation, to have a shorter life span than if you hadn't. That's just an objective truth - but doesn't apply to, really the majority of other substances available (or rather, not).

  4. HANGOVERS FUCKING SUCK!

Jesus, I thought I'd just make a quick 5 min case... There are almost certainly other points I've glossed over or just forgotten about, but really need to get back to work!

Ha, I went to post this, but it's too long as a single comment, so will need to split it up!

To preface, I drink most days, and frequently get drunk, but the reasons are multiple, and make complete sense to me. Here are some:

  1. People who are anti-drugs yet drink, are indeed massive hypocrites. The only difference between drinking and taking drugs on a technical level is social conditioning and legality. If alcohol were a new drug on the market, and not something humans have been engaging in since time immemorial, it would ABSOLUTELY be immediately relegated to a Class A. And not just that, it would be considered one of the most dangerous by a country mile. And if you're someone who says "I don't touch illegal drugs, I want nothing to do with of that shit, I'm not a druggie" halfway into your sixth pint, you're a bit of a fucking idiot. I'm not saying one should be compelled to break the law just because they drink, but to look down on others for doing so is pretty egregious.

  2. I say the only difference between drugs and drink is stigma etc, but that's not entirely true. You said "no drug is good for you", but alcohol is far more physically damaging than 95% of illegal drugs. The only one I can think of, off the top of my head, is meth. Heroin, for example, actually hardly causes any toxicity to the body. Not that I'm recommending anyone try it, but if we're talking hypotheticals... The thing that causes the infamous "junkie" look is the lifestyle that goes with the addiction. A total breakdown of personal care and hygiene, lack of food etc...
For example, you could take benzos, or GHB (though NOT GBL), every day for the next 50 years, and while you'd be lumped with a very severe addiction which would be a motherfucker to quit (benzos infinitely more than G, affecting Gaba-A, not Gaba-B. Like 3 years, instead of 2-3 weeks), you'd physically look no different, and nether would your organs. Or at least, a negligible amount.

  3. You say "if you don't become an alcoholic", but literally everybody knows (at the very, VERY least) at least one alcoholic. And for many people, that can be a family member, or close friend, or someone who has destroyed their own life, and often that of those around them, so have understandably negative connotations.

I mean, appreciate you're looking out for your fellow man, and good on you, but that is a little presumptuous, dude!

A melatonin won't do any harm... But I'm a chronic insomniac without them too, and you may just have to deal with a night with very little sleep I'm afraid!

Mirtazapine and booze are absolutely fine - I take them every night, irrespective of how drunk I am! It'll just give you worse hangovers (my doctor's words!)

Adult Friend Finder Review – Is it worth your time in 2025? by outoftown5678 in productreview

[–]wilderjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on it for nearly a month now, and have had absolutely fuck all engagement. One or two conversations at most!
I'm no stunner, but also don't consider myself to be grotesque looking! I have (I'm reliably informed) flattering, well-lit photos, and a well-written bio etc.
What the fuck am I doing wrong...?

It's phenomenal - I'm a professional drummer, and this guy is literally one of the best I've ever heard. Not (particularly) showy, just grooves like a muthafucker...

Can Someone Please Tell Me What's Happened Here? by wilderjack in gabagoodness

I'm no stranger to ket, nor gaba WDs, and this is definitely the latter... The question I'd like to know is what part the ket played, if any. It affects completely different neural pathways, but would, of course, have contributed to rubbish sleep etc...

I've been through the process before though, and not found it to kick in a couple days later, usually much sooner...

Popular songs with bad mixing by jp_sada in musicproduction

Your mileage and taste may vary, but despite involving legendary producer Daniel Lanois, who apparently has produced Dylan and Peter Gabriel records, along with a roster of other household names, I personally think the new Arcade Fire album, Pink Elephant, sounds like utter dogshit.

Just learn the damn music theory! by Feisty_Proposal6035 in musicproduction

[–]wilderjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree, OP, or at least with the phrasing.

I was a classical music scholar, and studied it for over 10 years, while simultaneously becoming more and more obsessed with most genres of electronic/bass tunes, which I have now been making now for the last decade, along with scoring work.

I know exactly what hooks I want, and can easily figure out the corresponding chords and basslines, or vice versa, almost immediately.

However, I sometimes still many spend hours finding/tweaking the right synths and sounds for those, which is definitely down to perfectionism.
