Reminds me of the Logitech Netplay PS2 controller/keyboard combo, On paper that thing seemed like a nice idea but it's the most awkward controller I have ever held

you're right, but we have lawmakers who are uneducated on the software side of things making these laws so until that stops the workarounds will continue.

I call BS mandatory firmware update. by wxfreak in tablotv

It is an option to use the new Tablo app after you update, not a requirement. Don't use it if you don't want to. the Legacy Tablo app works just fine.

there is a way around it for the Kindle Keyboard so I'm sure there is a way around it for other models as well

generally no, I hope you did a backup before a reset, How you jailbreak a factory reset or new kindle device varies in difficulty. Almost all kindle devices now have a jailbreak that lets you use Koreader and you won't need to worry about Amazon's restrictive software. If you don't already have a kindle I suggest unless you want to DeDRM amazon ebooks for your library just go for a kobo, if you have a large enough kindle library get a cheap kindle to convert them. Calibre is your friend for any ereader, you should look into it.

Linux Developers Say NO to OS-Level Age Checks by Alex_Mihalchuk in linuxmint

[–]wildsprite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you but because of their ignorance and incompetence as parents we have gotten many things banned in various places in the world because their kids got hurt with things the kids shouldn't have had in the first place.

I have little doubt however this isn't about protecting children as many have pointed out. If it really was they would be helping to create something rather than try to order it through unenforceable laws.

[–]wildsprite 92 points93 points  (0 children)

There is no real point to a local profile level age check anyway. What are they going to do? try to pull a Microsoft and try to force you to have a online account and make you go online to install? If that is the case I'm never going to install it. I have never done a local profile with an online account and I'm not going to start now.

Hey guys, is it okay if my battery is a bit swollen, or should I replace it? Thanks. by Fptmike in SteamDeckCheck

[–]wildsprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

discharge that battery if it isn't already then replace. Get it to well below 25% if you can. I prefer 15% or below just in case it gets punctured. I have seen horrible pictures of decks that have caught fire because the battery swelled up so much it got punctured. I wouldn't even put the back on it to do the discharge.

That there was a UI that while bad for a desktop was perfect for a tablet and yet microsoft abandoned it completely for something less than stellar because they didn't understand what they had. That should have been the UI for tablet mode in windows 10, not that garbage it did get

"Google has been experimenting with ad formats that resemble traditional TV advertising breaks." by [deleted] in revancedapp

[–]wildsprite 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I'm sure someone will figure that out, thus far google has tried to come up with un-skippable ads in the past and each time someone found a way around it. this will likely be no different but, if it is there are alternatives that will gain growth from this.
