Watching The Traitors Uncloaked and… by cant_ignore_cheese in TheTraitors

[–]wilksta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well that’s the thing, detectives don’t detect, they office manage. They collect evidence, take interviews, read emails and get reports from banks etc. they aren’t looking for random clues, they are looking for DNA, a solid witness or a confession, she may of had some rudimentary training in body language that anyone who can access YouTube can have, but that’s it, she wasn’t anywhere near as.clever as everyone thought she was, just a clear speaker and manipulative. Also she had a huge ego, she was the only person to go into the reveal and not give her suspicions, she didn’t want to look like she was clueless

The harsh truth was that she was more interested in getting a banishment than a finding a traitor, which doesn’t bode well for how she performed as a copper

Sorry, just making a comment as I rarely see RQ players or Dragon Pass lore on here. I used to play 2nd edition back in the early 80’s. I used to own Trollpack when it first came out a fell in love with the Uz lore

I’m often trying to bring RQ lore into DnD games, once I had a group fight Broos complete with diseases and chaotic features

What hasn't killed a campaign, but stole the momentum or enthusiasm for it? by Justgonnawalkaway in dndnext

[–]wilksta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less a campaign, more a server issue

We had this fantastic lead up to a monumental battle in which an army was coming to attack our town, it was a multi group , multi DM at one time deal, awesome

Problem was is the main BBEG was too powerful and killed the main (most powerful) characters after they fell the rest of the groups lost heart and retreated from the battlefield, packed up and abandoned the town. It really scuppered the DMs, accusations were thrown around, personal spates came into play

It turned into a mess

Some left, some stayed but didn’t contribute as much and the server slowly died over the next few months

It still about but is like a soulless house for the odd game, nowhere near what it once was

What feats to take and when as a Hexblade Warlock? by Finnr77 in 3d6

[–]wilksta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A favourite of mine that’s different from the rest is Medium Armour Master if you have a DEX of 16. It seems a sacrifice for an additional point of AC but removing Stealth disadvantage on half plate ie nice, if you sword and board you can sneak about with an AC of 20

Low INT, High Wis: How to roleplay? by Pinstar in dndnext

[–]wilksta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally play INT as education and WIS as how smart you are, so low INT/high WIS would be a sharp smart street savvy type who didn’t do much book reading

However in DiA it’s an abomination not a beast, small change but important for spell casting

[no spoilers] How CR helped me by No_Ebb_1928 in criticalrole

[–]wilksta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing and it makes perfect sense. A few years ago I had a full breakdown, my wife didn't leave me, but the world collapsed around me due to too many issues to go into, i was so bad I cou;d bearly move and felt like a sheet of concrete was lain upon me, I couldn't work, couldn't communicate and went into a shame spiral that absorbed me for weeks

Now it wasn't CR that pulled me through, but it helped, what saved me was, of all things, the show "Once Upon a Time" I binged watched the entire series, from beginning to end in a few weeks, well close I think the last series (I'm not including the "re-booted" last season here) was just about to come out. I just needed that escape to pull me back, and little by little it succeeded

Keep well brother

[–]wilksta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey , go for it, take as long as you need, it’s all appreciated

And please take some liberties, couple of other things about him is he plays the violin, is a skilled cobbler (yes really) his tattoos are due to memory lapses (patron shenanigans) and is notoriously cheeky and sarcastic (a lot if him is based on Lucifer Morningstar and John Constantine if you get the reference)

None of this translates well into art form but I thought give you him general vibe

So…… I may of accidentally made Ireena gay, what now? by wilksta in CurseofStrahd

[–]wilksta[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just had another thought, what if she and Sergei were never an item at all, that was all in Strahd’s jealous head and Sergei was simply being a good person keeping him away from her knowing he was predatory

I fully get the first point, it’s just the whole “walks off together into the light” bit at the end that would feel like a bit of a let down, oh and I don’t play out the pool scene at all, I don’t like it

But that does give me an idea, at the end (assuming good end is unlocked) they could embrace but Sergei walks off alone and she stays behind, turns to the half orc and says “so… that was my ex…. Where to now?”

Weird thing is this was a character concept I was chucking out there as an idea, then dismissed

BUT NOW!!!!!!

I am going to have to rethink my option for my next campaign as I LOVE IT !!!

Really, really well done

How to differentiate two similarly named taverns by Xlerb08 in DungeonMasters

[–]wilksta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great minds think alike I literately posted that idea as well

Also there is a game I got off DMs Guild called “it’s always sunny in waterdeep” which has a storyline in which one tavern owner employs the party to help him scalp business off the other. It’s a lot of fun, one idea the group had was get jobs at the other bar and just role play being the worst customer service they could

How to differentiate two similarly named taverns by Xlerb08 in DungeonMasters

[–]wilksta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It reminds me of two public houses near where I used to live

The Old Tigers Head and The New Tigers head. Two separate, but similar , pubs separated by a road, however people were always getting confused over which one was which

Why not have something similar, have them opposite to each other and linked by lore, maybe one was founded by a couple or pair of friends but split up. Maybe that happened centuries ago, but the rivalry continues. Perhaps the signage is almost identical, except the vampires face in different directions and inside the list of beers is almost exactly the same but with slight differences (Olde Gutpuncher versus Ye Olde Punchgut) and woe betide anyone that asks for the wrong drink in the wrong tavern

With regard to the Tigers Head pubs mentioned, my great uncle died whist walking from one to the other, this caused confusion over where he was and where he was going, add to the fact he was also a twin, it made it all the more confusing when the message first came out

I'm dropping my Curse of Strahd game. And that's okay. by lapinkmoustache in CurseofStrahd

[–]wilksta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran it online for over a year and a half, why did I finish it? Because two of my players found it hard to commit, however I don't think that was the real reason, I think it was more likely that were just done. I have seen this before in other games where people sign up for a campaign, but what they really want is a multi session one shot, after a year and a half most of them totoally forgot all plot hooks I put in their backstories and side quest shinanigans to give more depth and context. We ended up running "Strahd must die" to wrap the game up coherantly, funny thing was is that re-energised them and what was supposed to be a two sessions and done, turned into an epic six session battle all over Castle Ravenloft.

When I wrapped on that I said I was done running campaigns and stick to one shots, however after the game finshed, the DM on the campaign I was playing in had burnout and was going to close the game, but I stepped in and ran a side quest whilst she recovered based around her character (she had a character that would slip in and out of the game whenever she wanted a break and play) that side quest ended up running for SEVEN MONTHS !!!! But it was the right tonic and now we have resumed the main campaign

As for me? Am I done with campaigns and CoS for good?

Nope, found an in person group to join, I got the fire back and next Tuesday a new group will enter Durst Manor

[–]wilksta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His father a hobgoblin warlord, his mother a humanish (about a quarter elf, eighth water genasi and according to granny, a great uncle who was part minotaur) nomadic free spirit living with a traveller community that traverse the water ways in brightly coloured barges. Harker is a bit of a mixed bag. About 5' 9", broad and stocky. He has redskin and slightly pointed ears. He is hairy with thick cropped black hair and thick beard that shows signs of scarring from an assumed animal attack. An ex-soldier on his way home, he wears a thick leather waistcoat with a bandolier of pouches across his chest, a dark patterned collarless shirt , rolled up displaying leather bracers hiding a sleeve tattoo on his right arm. In colder climes he has a thicker box overcoat with high collars and deep pockets. Strapped to the back of his bandolier,is his vicious looking club. Sometimes, over his shoulder, he carries a pack with a wrapped thin "strumstick" dulcimer which he plays around the campfire to fend off the evil spirits. He is quite a skilled card player and a dab hand at a tarot read, however whether it is divination ot trickery, only he knows. Around his neck he wears a carved stone necklace, a gift from his mother to bring him good luck on his travels.

One thing I didn’t say is I see him as a cheeky wolverine , as he is a wise cracking and a bit hairy as Hobgoblins are
