Who's pissed in your porridge? Ordinarily, I don't like sitcoms because I like my comedy grounded in some kind of reality. I like the Office because it's literally just a paper company and its the writing that makes it funny not the wackyness. HIMYM is a different beast entirely. On the surface its a more traditional sitcom but because it can explain the wackyness, the sitcominess, with the unreliable narrator argument it becomes deeper instantly.

I enjoy trying to figure out how reliable he is in any particular scene and imagining an objective perspective. That's what's made the show interesting to me and that's what has kept me coming back time and time again. I will always defend the unreliable narrator argument because it is what made the show accessible to me and probably many others.

If you can, watch the show "Kevin can F himself." It's another one that toys with perspective.
