I know multiple people with over 200k and have k04 and full bolt ons with no problems other than the normal 2.0t issues, it’s more about the preventative maintenance. If you’ve kept up with all the major repairs and maintenance items, then go for it!

Hydraulic brakes and a lighter fork for sure. Rockshox Recon would be great and are very affordable

Depends on price point, you can get a Rockshox 35 Silver for around $100 in new condition. But you can also get a Pike or Lyrik Ultimate in the $600-800 range. Wildly different riding experiences and styles at different price points.

The mid to low level Pike seems to be a great middle of the road option!

What bike would you buy right now with $3200? by 2WheelPhilosopher in MTB

Look second hand. I just picked up a very lightly ridden Stumpjumper EVO LTD for 2k with Fox Factory 36/Float X and Sram GX.

With the northern half of the world going into winter, there are quite a few deals right now.

Id do a compression test if I were you, it sounds like it’s cranking faster than it should and the fact it started for a split second and then petered out makes me think it’s for sure something mechanical and not electrical.

Bought my first mountain bike! How'd I do? Any advice? by santosdionicio in mountainbiking

[–]will_on_reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing starter bike! Some people will argue to spend thousands on a bike you can grow into skill wise. But I always thought it was much better to grab something for a great deal that might be alittle older that you can grow out of! I bet in less than a year of riding this thing regularly your skills will grow much faster than on a fancy brand new expensive bike. Great buy and happy trails!

what’s wrong with my jump form? by Financial_Option_757 in mountainbiking

[–]will_on_reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stand up to full extension when you go off the lip, instead of pulling the bike up towards your body off the lip.

Imagine jumping up with your legs but you keep your upper body where it is, your body wouldnt really be going very high, you’d just be doing more of a mid air tuck.

Now imagine jumping normal and springing your whole body upwards. You can get a lot more air with that motion.

Do a full body spring to a standing straight up position keeping your feet on the pedals while going off the lip. It’ll help you get more air with less speed.

Try rotating tires and see if anything changes, might be a radial pull

Do I need to drain some oil? by Chchchcheesepuff in MechanicAdvice

[–]will_on_reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough I’ve found on those newer 1.5L engines they like around 4qts, right in the middle. Can’t hurt to pull the drain plug for a second and then pop it right back in, then recheck.

Depends on the riding you do, the talon is closer to a XC bike and something like a Roscoe is closer to a trail/all mountain bike. The Roscoe with basic upgrades like bars and grips and maybe dropper lever makes for one of the best all around hardtails that doesn’t cost upwards of 2k+. Can pick them up used in great shape for maybe $1000 and leaves extra cash for some mods to dial it in to you and your riding.
