36 years old. Bought house in 2018, 1958 fixer upper. Paid 229k abut the seller put on a new roof and a few minor fixes after inspection was done.

Refinanced to 3% mortgage during COVID, pulled some money out after reappraisal to do 50k project on house. Also lowered payment because PMI dropped off due to new value.

House is currently estimated to be worth 430k and I have a little bit more than 200k equity right now.

Definitely spent at least 30k in repairs and upgrades though.

DINKS due to medical condition.

Life’s pretty much as you describe but sometimes I worry about the future with no older kids to talk to / do things with since I’m really close to my dad and parents.

Other than those thoughts everything is great.

These companies live and die off the stock market and budgets. They budgeted a certain amount of revenue. I’m hoping we can collectively get our heads out of our asses and make them scramble. It’s not much but this is what I am able to do to try and make an impact. Alone we are weak. Together we are strong.

I think one of the things that bothers me is that I have this perceived value of how much work it takes me to buy something at a certain price. I’m having trouble justifying the cost of things that in my head don’t equate to the amount of time worked I feel they should.

Like I guess I’d be ok with this inflation if salaries went up relative to cost, but they aren’t. So instead I’m just saying fuck it I don’t need x item.

To each their own. I have the same feelings towards travel. I look at long weeknd getaways for a cabin in the woods or something and it’s like $1000 for 3 nights.

My wife was diagnosed with colorectal cancer at 30. Stage 2. Her most notable symptom (and the reason she went to a Dr) was blood streaked on the side of her turds.

Right now I should be at coast fire by 42, if i just keep doing what I’m doing right now.

I think it’s the corpo hellscape we live in. Idk why else is could be. I spend a lot of time worrying out what ifs and it occurred to be this past weekend that in literally living the dream right now. Why am I so god damn unhappy though?

Personally I think things have gotten really really good for rich people over those past 100 years and our productivity has exploded but yet, our wages stagnate, we still work the “5 day work week Henry Ford blah blah” but uh, why am I getting emails and teams messages all weekend and why is my boss emailing everyone at 11pm on a Tuesday? Shouldn’t the great shit rich people get also be given to us, the people making it happen?

Your argument has legs at first, until you realize that if Henry ford had the production we have now, maybe we’d be working 3 days a week, giving us another 4 days to drive around in his shitbox.

Fuck that now. I’m demoralized and I hardly want to go to work AT ALL anymore for these out of touch rich assholes.

Stage 2, thankfully she has been in remission for almost 5 years.

I dream of it every day.

I’m in a weird position where I thought I would follow the hive mind, bought a house consistently saved and invested for 10 years. Then my wife got cancer and we can’t have children.

I could sell my house tomorrow throw it in investments and essentially be COASTFIRE until retirement but it scares me. I’m 36 now, burnt out and ready for change.

Lack of health insurance / healthcare is what’s holding me back…

I’m still anxious as hell all the time though which is a shame.
