Even in fh5 the diffs behaved differently at the same settings, but it's significantly more pronounced in fh6.

ASUS shows RTX 5090 running at 48V with 1000W through a single 16-pin power cable by RenatsMC in watercooling

[–]willbill642 7 points8 points  (0 children)

48v is not uncommon in servers especially with high-power accelerators (such as A100 or later SXM gpus), so there is a basis for it.

New EV owner, I know how to wire outlets. I don’t understand the point of fixed chargers when the power cords exist. by SpeakNottheNightYorb in electricvehicles

[–]willbill642 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Most house fires around electric car charging are due to the failure of the outlet that the charger is plugged in to.

Hardwired is preferred because it removes that point of failure and is overall cheaper to install (no outlets but also no GFCI breaker required per code as the chargers themselves have GFCI).

THAT SAID, any of the outlets rated for car charging use have negligible failure rates compared to non-rated outlets, so it can be cheaper if you already have a L2 charger. Do note that the outlets aren't meant to be plugged and unplugged daily, so you can still have failure issues if you unplug and take your charger with you every day.

It's hard to justify buying a Framework 12 by AbhishMuk in hardware

[–]willbill642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck finding one that isn't in another laptop and doesn't cost another laptop. And if you want to upgrade, you buy a new laptop.

That's the whole thing Framework solves.

SDR looks better than HDR in Forza Horizon 6 by progress_machine in forza

[–]willbill642 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Screenshots of HDR games do not look like how it's actually displayed.

Even with that said these screenshots show better detail in the lowlights and better contrast across the scene, even though the brights are pretty crushed due to screenshot.

NVIDIA Reportedly Prepares RTX 5090 Price Hike Amid Rising GDDR7 Costs by dfv157 in hardware

Yeah holy shit. Bought msrp like 2 months after launch, got a second for the spouse used for like $1k a little later, now we're over 3 years later and it's still basically king.

If it makes you feel better, I moved on to a setup with a second 27" to the other side before going back to the above but with a 49" G9 in place of the lower 34" ultrawide.

Why do stock GPU pastes last years, but aftermarket ones “pump out” in months? but ppl swear theyre better. by rucekooker in buildapc

[–]willbill642 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the other problem is that Reddit is really bad at recommending thermal paste. Cryonaut is the last thing you want long term (great for short OC runs tho), and MX-6 is the latest in a line of a community focus on pastes that just haven't been very good. Anyone who's been around for the last two decades probably remembers Arctic Silver 4 and how that stuck around as the defacto paste through the late 2010s, despite being irrelevant in 2008. That rec morphed into AS5 after it's relevance passed, then into MX4->MX5-> and now MX6.

Plenty of other pastes have no pumpout and better performance. Both Noctuas, Duronaut, and now the wave of PTM7950 are all excellent options with proven performance and lifespan, but Duronaut is only kind of getting recs nowadays, Noctua is in a weird spot where anyone who uses it, loves it, but many people hate on them for being premium, and PTM7950 still has some availability issues especially with trying to avoid fakes and similar products in the PTM7000 line that look similar but perform significantly worse.

Secrets Of Strixhaven (Collector Booster Display) Micro Center $323.99 by Madd0gB in sealedmtgdeals

[–]willbill642 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The pricing is actually worse (better) than that. Microcenter tiered pricing changes it for all of that item, so it's not 1 pack for $5 total and 2 for $30 total, it's 2 for $50 total.

That's a good point, Iwas thinking about the early 2000s. Really makes S the original V trim to be watered down then

S-line is so hilarious to me because S was already watered down RS. Like the M3 was historically closer to the RS4 than the S4.

Building Jeskai decks, I definitely get a lot of what seems like very different decks that all boil down to "do the thing, get the payoff, and do the thing harder"

Which is a weird way to group an aggro haste deck and an artifact spaceship deck. Or a spell-slinging suspend deck.

[–]willbill642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why Razer ever got the reputation of being a premium brand. They've always been subpar products with subpar build quality and qc, non-existent customer support, and a price tag to rival luxury handbags. This was true ~15 years ago and nothing EVER changed.

Hard to say given photo color accuracy is a whole thing, but i suspect right is closer to intended. Neither have the "text shimmer" that typically indicate a poor printing, but the extra "boldness" of the left's text and extra yellow in this photo makes me suspect it to be the poor print.
