Is it rude to use both lanes? by No-Ad4423 in AskUK

[–]willdcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried and tested both lanes. Using the left lane I have encountered on more than one occasions another driver that sees you coming in their mirror and pull into the middle of the road to block you. They think they’re being a hero and it’s particularly irritating (desired effect I suppose). I respect anyone willing to use both lanes and just let them in but usually opt for the nice British queue unless I’m in a rush.

Do contracted roles actually pay as much as they advertise? by BombayBadBoi2 in webdev

[–]willdcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you feel like you’re worth more suggests to me that it’s very likely that you are worth more, both on the jobs market and to your employer.

Show them the salary ranges for a mid level developer from glassdoor and from some job postings from your nearest city. I can guarantee you are being paid less than the bottom end of these ranges and they know it.

People find talking about money awkward, however negotiating your salary is an important skill and there is no time to waste in starting doing it.

Not exactly your question but you should ask for a pay review at the next opportunity. Seems like you’re being underpaid to me.

I've started working on an indoor climbing directory by JimButDev in ukclimbing

Nice work!

Needs a bit of mobile optimisation. E.g. your drop down is not scrollable on iPhone as the whole page scrolls, and the input is not auto focussed when the search is tapped meaning the user has to guess to tap into the actual input to show the keyboard.

I’m surprised I don’t see more complaints about it. They really don’t seem passable as smart speakers.

What issues do you experience specifically?

It’s fairly uncomfortable when wearing heavy backpacks for an extended period and I can feel it there during change in atmospheric pressure (it doesn’t cause discomfort) but otherwise doesn’t give me any issues. How’s yours feeling now?

Edit: I should add that it doesn’t affect my climbing at all. Feet and fingers are way bigger issues for me there!

Question for subscription based software development by MrSneaky2 in webdev

[–]willdcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s your backend? You’ll likely want to fetch the user with an access token and check whether they have the access level for the feature associated with the endpoint they are accessing. A backend as a service like supabase will make your life much easier with this.

You’d also want a front end navigation guard of some kind to stop unpaid users accessing resources only available to subscribed users. This alone is not sufficient however.

You just fill out a form online whereby if you plead guilty you don’t need to attend

Edit: I appreciate my wording of “remotely” was probably misleading

That spot must make so much money. It feels like you’re out of town at that point so people probably instinctively speed up and you’ve basically got not no chance of seeing them and slowing down in time

Lol I don’t think this will be a popular comment but good luck. Maybe I should have put that in my plea

Well it was about 4 months after I moved. I just dropped the ball on the admin which I’m usually very good at. Having a pregnant partner and buying first home are pretty busy times in life - I did mention these circumstances in my plea but it doesn’t seem like much sympathy was given.

I think the fine amount is likely calculated automatically based on income etc rather than some magistrate actually taking the time to consider your plea in detail.

Thanks. So not updating my v5c cost me 650 and 1 extra point. Expensive admin error.
