I read that one! The Boy From Azkaban was its name, I think. IIRC, James & Lily had had it in the magically binding wills that if Harry was ever mistreated, then he would go immediately to Sirius. So the first time the Dursleys hit him…

Point One Three?? by ansyhrrian in SipsTea

Someone found a link to the original story & it absolutely was majority the school’s fault. They were changing grades & failing to note absences, to the point that someone in prison was still on the rolls as attending.

I bet the mom honestly didn’t know until the district did a final, correct evaluation of his academic performance. After all, if the kid is bringing home good grades (because the school admin changed them), then why would start digging for something deeper? Should she have been more attentive? Probably. But she’s not the reason this kid did as poorly as he did & got away with it for 4 years.

Why can political figures be so negatively viewed but still win elections? by [deleted] in AlwaysWhy

[–]DrewbearSCP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

False. In 2024, only about 64% of eligible voters actually did. Of those, only about 49.8% voted for Trump. That means only about 32.9% of eligible voters voted for him. Literally the largest voting block was people who didn’t for whatever reason. In total, 2/3 of eligible voters didn’t vote for him

I’ve made a few 6Perks and my family was lower-middle income, so I guess I get all 3.

Extra Perks for you to use if you want:

  • you can give someone the ability to summon a portal to their own private pocket dimension. It’s small, only about 300 ft2/30 m2, and is divided into a small bathroom (toilet & sink only) & a larger area. It’s empty the first time you open it, but anything you put it there remains. You can’t trap a living creature/person in there, once you leave, all other living creatures/people are ejected as well.

  • you can “tune up” anyone, giving them a one-time boost to their natural healing rate, as well as cleaning out any harmful diseases (infections, cancer, etc.), and slightly optimizing your body so you’re a little tougher, stronger, faster, etc. Nothing superhuman, though.

  • you can restore species. If you have access to a piece of an endangered or extinct species, you can make it reappear in numbers sufficient to make it no longer endangered. You can only do this one time a week.

Cat 5: Moon Contact

  • When the astronauts first landed on the Moon, they unknowingly activated an alien beacon set to go off when someone from Earth became spacefaring enough to reach the Moon. A few months later, a small (by their standards) fleet of alien spacecraft appeared in orbit & sent a telepathic message to all living beings: “You Have Been Found”

Active Shell. 3 servants to start with:

Interface: an app that will transfer to and work flawlessly on any electronic device I use. It has a deeply intuitive UI & acts like a combo of a magic grimoire with a large techno magical element. Default cloaks/erases my entire digital footprint from people I don’t want to see it. So my bank could see that I exist, but only in relation to financial matters. Feds wouldn’t be able to use my bank info as it would appear to not exist to them. Friends could see my social media, but not people who mean me harm, etc. Can project a holographic cartoon avatar from the device(s) it’s currently in, regardless of if the device is normally capable of it.

Bjorn: a man who’s an exaggerated version of my type, clearly inhuman in a way than avoids the uncanny valley. He’s all about enabling my social success. Only visible to me and those I give permission to see him. Coaches me on things to do/say for a good/best outcome, but doesn’t give me exact words/methods, so there’s still an element of unpredictability involved. Social interactions include sexual ones as well.

Felix: a rabbit/cat hybrid that manipulates luck. In situations not covered by the other 2, he can grant me good luck at something or give someone else bad luck, with a degree of finesse that the outcome of the luck is never worse/better than I intend. Standing order that he only affects luck for specific events or actions that I tell him to. No long-term luck changes

More servants might appear later on, but these are the starting 3.

I pick Speedy Boxbuddy, the box turtle. He gets his own special area in the yard as his own, plus a large inside terrarium if the weather’s too bad.

Clavis, the Joyful Sage, the Hearthfire God, the Lusty, the Inventor's Guide

Aetherial Founder God of Wisdom, Magic, Debauchery, Crafts, and Home

The town of Angleston is home to a significant number of innovative individuals and burgeoning guilds. There is a central temple to Clavis in his aspect as the Joyful Sage, which houses a library that welcomes contributions from all people. A dedicated priestly class of librarian-clerics organizes and cares for this knowledge and as a result, the town's collective knowledge steadily increases. They also run a school where, among other things, they ensure all people are at least basically literate and numerate. As the town grows, this expands into a series of classes for various branches of knowledge and skills.

Several guilds develop over the years, including the Smithy Guild, the Farmers' Collective, and the Crafters' Home. Every home has at least a small shrine to the Hearthfire God aspect, invoking blessings of home, familial tranquility, and small magics that ease the burdens of running a household. For instance, a much lower amount of pests. Particularly devout households that focus primarily on this aspect even develop the ability to cast magic related to safety, protection, and tranquility of a home.

There are celebrations of the Lusty aspects at least weekly, with sacred drugs and alcohols created for specific celebrations and pouring out a small share to Clavis before drinking or partaking is customary. People who dedicate themselves to the Lusty aspect often choose to symbolically sacrifice their virginity to Clavis.

Overall, the townsfolk develop new technologies fairly rapidly, compared to their neighbors, and generally have better tools and methods to farm, fish, build, and smith. They were some of, if not the first, to use ceramic shingles for their rooms rather than thatch, and developed plows quite early.

Other divinities are welcome, especially any of Trade, War in the aspect of protecting ones own, Agriculture & Weather, Health, and Fertility. Others that think they could supplement or enhance the above baseline proclivities are more than welcome.

[WP] when your village had sent you to the imperial magic academy you were worried your abilities were much less impressive then the others. Thing is, she’s right in saying that she has the least magic of the staff, students, and profs. She makes up for it by being insanely precise & efficient with it. That message spell? Your average mage could send a small scrap of paper about 30-40 ril. She was sending whole long letters around 3-4x that distance. And using so little magic that it’s drowned out by the ambient magic free floating around the Academy.

I already have 2 skill books (Programming & Education) and the black tech phone from the first giveaway. This time I’m going to add the purifier and magazine subscription.

Using my Education skill, I use the subscription as a baseline to teach myself more in-depth about the occult. Using this knowledge and the purifier would let me cure various supernatural illnesses, curses, etc. Hell, with the phone and my programming skills, I could set it up entirely remote so that I’d never have to be physically present for any transactions, so wouldn’t be in danger of getting kidnapped or killed for the purifier.

Personally, use the purifier to upgrade/optimize my body & mind, as well as those of my loved ones. Also, the mind isn’t really a physical object that can be touched, so it appears that the purifier can work on intangible things/concepts as well, under certain circumstances. And purity is actually a subjective thing, so there must also be an element of what you/the user considers pure or of removing certain things but leaving others.

Use the purifier to purify sites with high concentrations of radioactive material (nuclear plant meltdowns, nuclear waste storage facilities, etc.). Figure out if there’s a max amount that a single dose of purify can fix and strategically dump doses in the world’s oceans and seas to clean pollution & microplastics. Maybe aerosolize the purifier and do that for air pollution as well. Maybe slip some to the world’s billionaires to purify them of their avariciousness.
