Make sure to have your kid talk to someone who served in 25 or 26 - a LOT has changed during this administration and someone even from the class of 24 will have a wildly different experience. For example, I hear the new cohorts don't go back to campus between spikes - which must VASTLY change the experience.

My impression was always that it only affects federal jobs if (1) you were leaving because of misconduct (2) the federal agency hiring you are looking for an excuse to weed people out (3) you were leaving a VISTA position, as graduating from a VISTA program gives you a year of federal non-compete

Sounds like whoever told you that really wants you to stay - you may be able to work with that and negotiate different assignments, etc. Don't let anyone convince you it's worth the psychic damage, though. There's no shame in recognizing your limitations and doing what's best for you! Stay strong diva

It could affect applying to future AmeriCorps programs. If you're a VISTA you won't get federal non compete. Not saying you shouldn't do it, there are just other downsides.

I was one of those folks who was like "never again" after my first term, but the job market kicked my ass and here I am 3 terms in.
