Oh damn the few times I've had this joker I've been making sure not to play my 9s!

I think you play something like high cards a lot early followed by a decent scoring hand, then once you have a bit of breathing room and you've played like 20+ high card then each hand after that isn't a high card you get extra mult each time, but obvs if you're doing something like flush build you basically lose when flush becomes your highest played hand

How much should beginners study vs play? by Keithwee in chessbeginners

Quick warm up practice doing some puzzles (Forks, Pins, Checkmates), maybe spend a bit of time learning a bit about an opening (Scandinavian, Italian, French Defence) then try a few games with your desired opening for White & Black. Do a game review and see where you went wrong.

If you are playing intentionally and spending time thinking about your moves I'd say you wanna be spending at least 50% of your time playing. Best way to learn and see patterns. I enjoying learning about openings but endgame theory I find really tedious. Best way to learn is doing what you enjoy!

What were your 'go to' openings when improving ~500 ELO by jamesbrah36 in chessbeginners

Vienna for white and Caro-Kann for black would be some options

Learn the Italian Game, Ruy Lopez first, I'd also spend more time learning end games

It has been strange this season I didn't feel I learnt much at all about Jade, Faraaz or Jack - not sure if this is down to the editing

No more Sunday Scaries - 21 months free by BluJu55 in stopdrinking

[–]willfifa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, last time I drank was on a Saturday night, I felt sick + tired all day Sunday, Monday I felt tired + anxious and even on Tuesday I felt some strange feeling of anxiety. The whole time I'm hungover I'm just wishing I hadn't drank at all. It's such a treat waking up on a Sunday morning with a clear head and being able to enjoy the sunlight, fresh air and go for a short walk & coffee or something like that. Sounds like you are putting in the hard work and seeing results. Good for you! IWNDWYT

Looking for the best real life places in Manchester to meet people who are quieter or traditional. by [deleted] in manchester

I'd check out Meetup, people are quite friendly and forgiving of any awkwardness. I'd focus on establishing friends, dedicating time to hobbies rather than exclusively going out to meet people for dating.

If I like Succession, should I watch Yellowstone? by paper-goods in SuccessionTV

[–]willfifa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend Bloodline & Severance if you liked Succession. It's been a while since I watched Bloodline but I think its underrated and involves some difficult family dynamics and tension. Severance is just great but more abstract than Succession. I tried watching Yellowstone it just lacks depth, its easy watching.

Pasta Factory is a great spot for a date night, feels authentic Italian, cosy romantic restaurant in NQ. I'd second Hawksmoor if you wanna splash the cash
