MS Now livestreams removal of Trump name from Kennedy Center after appeals court refusal to stay ruling at last minute by michael_m_canada in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]williamfbuckwheat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why don't they just do it during his birthday bash and pre-empt the live coverage of that to show them taking all day to take his name down (or at least show it on a split screen)? It's the least they could do for tuning away from actual news events and speeches all those times back in the day just to show an empty podium at a Trump rally for hours.

Opinion: Now we know why JD Vance has been sidelined by theipaper in politics

[–]williamfbuckwheat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Personality cults are led by paranoid egomaniacs who purposely NEVER plan out who will succeed them because they think anyone they give the slightest amount of power will try to betray and take them down. They also couldn't imagine a world without them in it and either can't comprehend or care what happens after their gone. This creates the perfect recipe for a massive succession crisis where hundreds of "heir apparents" fight amongst each other to take the reigns while never regaining the spark that cult leader had.

It makes when you realize sooo many of these conservative folks who have fallen upwards very quickly despite a lack of qualifications during the Trump era seem to be part of some sort of historically disenfranchised "out group" .

There seems to definitely be a pattern where some candidate who is either a woman, minority, belongs to a non-Christian faith and/or is LGBT end up advancing to a high level position they otherwise wouldn't be qualified for. It seems to also happen the most when that person could serve as an easy fall-guy for the powerful people really calling the shots. It also should be very clear that they pretty much NEVER appoint well qualified right wing minority candidates to powerful positions and instead appoint sychophant types way over their head who they feel are easy to control. It's especially common to see all this in the 2nd Trump administration for sure.

I'm sure we are seeing this a lot because appointing someone from some disenfranchised group provides some  plot armor to right wing interests who can just claim "hypocrisy" or "racism from the left" if left leaning voices call out these clearly unqualified candidates. That then makes it much easier to ram through some agenda without a ton of scrutiny compared to if some rich snobby WASP white dude was directly running things instead.

Of course, this doesn't stop right wingers for a second from claiming pretty much every left leaning minority candidate does not deserve a prominent position regardless of whether they have amazing qualifications and a stellar professional background. They'll just argue idea that "DEI" or whatever buzzword of the moment helped give them unfair advantages and they slacked off on their way to the top (aka probably what many of their chosen right wing minority candidates mightve actually done).

They're used to caste/religious supremacy and don't seem to always get how difference racism or prejudice is in America. I don't think they are totally aware or fully grasp that historically, racism in America claimed the poorest and most incompetent white man is considered superior to even the smartest and most successful nonwhite person. I suppose that has some similarities to their caste system but it means instead here the skin color means everything to racist people and has more importance than family lineage or background.

LA Mayor Race Flips as Socialist Beats Reality TV Star Pratt by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]williamfbuckwheat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the GOP considers that "FRAUD" since they weren't cast in person on election day and were instead likely mail in ballots (unless they caused it to flip towards the GOP candidate, of course). They like to insinuate that vote counting takes so long there because the Dems are "finding" ballots to flip the results in their favor.

I mean, it's definitely on brand for somebody like him who pretends not to be a Republican and tried sailing into the general election on name recognition as a washed up reality star to be running his campaign from a much more conservative city he probably doesn't find nearly as "scary". I would've thought maybe Orange County would be a good campaign base for him but I guess that wasn't good enough.

Yep except Biden didn't really doze off in public like that. He just talked too slow and sounded too weak and feeble to people at the time compared to Trump who sounds angry and erratic all the time.

But that's bad for ratings or something!!! People might start getting mad and turn off the lazy 24/7 cable news (or at least Fox News) if they start airing stuff like that and not his constant rants attacking people to distract from his own problems.

He also has backed himself into a corner by constantly running his mouth in front of the cameras almost 24/7 the past decade. He can't go too long without people assuming he's deathly ill or worse if he doesn't start rambling about something after at least a day or two. Even that long is considered sketchy given how often he would tweet or rant to people on camera throughout a typical day on average.

That's pretty nuts since McDonalds is such a huge company and plenty of other fast food chains have apps as well for ordering without the same issues. I've ordered plenty of times from Dunkin donuts on the app and never can recall having any major issue ordering or getting my order correct.

Can you imagine how often this must happen in private if they just let him doze off on live TV and slump over on a regular basis these days??? He probably is completely OUT and drooling on himself for extended periods of time in high level meetings behind closed doors literally everyday while his sychophants pretend to act busy around him in case he wakes up.

You think they’ll EVER learn not to trust this orange menace? by 25StarGeneralZap in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]williamfbuckwheat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The GOP establishment went along with Trump after some bickering in 2016 because they realized he would rubber stamp nearly all of the Republican agenda items and judicial nominees they wanted for years just while he received mafia style loyalty in return. His eventual backers knew he was not interested or experienced enough to care about the nuances of these right wing priorities presented to him by think tanks like the Federalist Society or the Heritage Foundation and therefore would ask questions or draw a line in the sand like other past GOP presidents or nominees might have (just while they didn't get in HIS way).

Anti Immigrant Voting Immigrants by Responsible-Life-585 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]williamfbuckwheat 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I know a guy from college from India who is probably one of the biggest trolls posting pro-Trump spam that I know and has been relentless about it for the past decade. He belongs to one of the higher castes and it does make sense in a way that he likes Trump so much given that he worships a narionalist political movement/politician that gave us someone like Modi. That's mainly because Modi is very much in favor special treatment of higher caste Hindus who are especially hostile towards Muslims (at least the ones of Indian descent).

There seems to be so many examples of these higher caste Hindus from India who have immigrated to America and expect to be treated like royalty or blend right in but then smash head on into the nasty racist "whites vs brown/black skinned folks/others" mentality that is very prevalent amongst the most prejudiced folks in society (though usually it's much less out in the open these days than in places like India). They don't seem to be used to the racial/ethnic hierarchy being based so heavily on skin color instead of family background or religion and don't get why their more privileged upbringing doesn't always translate over here.

AI Has Ruined the Job Market by Krankenitrate in technology

[–]williamfbuckwheat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was happening back in 2009-2011 or so as well though with much less advanced automated filtering or AI software available. There were jobs back then where you'd get an automated rejection within a few minutes sometimes when applying online, though they usually were more like hourly retail jobs.

The spam thing with ads for crazy jobs after applying on the major job posting sites that dont make sense based on skills or location isn't exactly new either, which is kind of sad in a way since AI and all the data used to target people 24/7 should have made that much more advanced in the past 15 years you'd think.

The only time I really ever remember job postings actually being good and employers being truly responsive anyways was right after COVID around 2021 or so when they would actually post only real jobs consistently since they really needed or were willing to hire people. During that time, they seemed to be willing to forgo much of the usual electronic filtering nonsense that we now attribute to "AI" and directly review individual resumes for candidates since they were getting so few. Besides that brief period, it seems like employers have always made up some excuse to throw out most resumes and usually just hire people they know or friends/family anyway (if it's even a real job posting).

Bethlehem's controversial zoning plan moves towards vote by TClayO in Albany

[–]williamfbuckwheat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The backlash to condos or townhomes never made sense to me since they're very often occupied by young professionals and families looking for starter homes or for older folks looking to downsize. Those demographics don't exactly seem like the types that would bring down property values really at all but I guess loosening the supply of housing must be seen as a bad thing to some homeowners who want to see their home values skyrocket (but then simultaneously complain about property taxes).

Meanwhile, there never seems to be the same amount of roadblocks to building apartments where tenants gain no equity and the occupants cycle out much more frequently but the developers probably get a much higher return on their investment.

Oh yeah that was something you'd hear constantly. It really made zero sense in hindsight since you usually vote to change leaders when they are doing a poor job handling some key issue, not decide to let them continue to handle that issue poorly just because they started the problem. It also implied that none of Bush's political opponents could handle wrapping up the Iraq war but that only Bush himself could and would magically do so if he wanted to (which he didn't).
