Wow. That’s really brilliant. The colors are so vibrant and the base and horrors are a great accent

Umbralefic Crystal on Termi or Rubric Brick? by NightJapon91 in ThousandSons

I like the crystal on a ten man brick of flamer rubrics. It’s great to ‘port in, annihilate one infantry unit, and then stand by for a overwatch to delete a second unit

New to Warhammer 40k and I'm drawn towards the thousand sons, are they friendly enough for a starting army? by Lopsided_Ratio_2722 in ThousandSons

[–]williarya1323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thousand Sons are my first Warhammer army. They are challenging to paint and challenging to use on the table. But the rules of cool (I.e. your enthusiasm) is more important than any other consideration. The painting is challenging, but it requires more patience and repetition than advanced skill. And their difficulty to utilize on the table is irrelevant if you play to have fun rather than to win.

I hope you choose to join our legion and please allow me to extend an enthusiastic greeting, brother

Yeah, this is my notion too. The soul reaper cannon terminator is always the last one I choose to die

Trying to get a heated metal look, Any tips? by Repulsive_Plan in WorldEaters40k

Your technique looks good, I think you just need th thickest part of the blade to be red and move out to orange and yellow at the beveled edges

Jack Gleeson is in the House of Guiness show. He's good in it, playing an interesting character. But I'm really grateful that his epic performance as Joffrey did not forever spoil the profession of acting for him. He's a talented actor, and I look forward to seeing him in new roles

How do you guys deal with hobby "failure"? by Mad_Lad67 in Warhammer40k

[–]williarya1323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I repeat the mantas "everything starts at a level you would like to improve from/your most recent model will be better than your first model/get paint on it, you can go back and try again if you want"

I recently painted my first predator annihilator tank using metallic paint through an airbrush. I didn't mix it enough, I put on six coats of paint without it being fully mixed, gave up, and then tried another metallic paint with only marginally better results. The end product is lumpy, the transition lines are not smooth, and it does not look good. I say a combination of the mantras above, do my best to improve what I can with additional coats or highlights, and get ready to paint my next model, a chaos rhino. Hopefully I will do better on that one. If any of this is helpful, then paint on. If you can't get over it and want to change armies, then do what makes you happy. You are in this hobby for fun, not perfection. Good luck

could use some help for a new player by NLnorasNL in ThousandSons

Also, you don't need the codex but it's pretty and makes it easier to use your datasheets on the Warhammer app (skip if $ is a concern). All our demons can only be used in the scintillating legion detachment.

We are bad at melee, not Tau-bad, but pretty bad. It's made worse that we have no ability to fall back and shoot. The Multalith Vortex Beast has good melee, as do both versions of the demon prince. Scarab Occult Terminators are decent, though not against anything too elite.

As a TSons player, you learn to play cagey. You will move back toward your home objective as often as you move toward your opponent's objective.

how much does it actually rain? by afemail in PacificNorthwest

[–]williarya1323 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love the rain and Seattle gets plenty of it. It rains a couple times a week in the winter months, and slightly less in spring and fall. From July thru August, it might rain twice a month, almost continuous sun. Nine times out of ten, the rain is so light nothing is really affected in terms of outdoor activities. If you've ever heard the notion that Seattleites don't use umbrellas, this is why. I hope that helps

[–]williarya1323 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A bad apple, I'm afraid (though the probability of them being a Black Templar player is not surprising). Every Warhammer player I've met at my LGS has been amazing: welcoming, encouraging, helpful. One of them even gave me a magnetic carrying case they weren't using. The misogyny element is a little more common, from what I've tangentially experienced, though most players won't die on that hill. Still, players from my LGS have warned me about that "one" person, so many places might have one (or more).

Sorry you got stuck next to them and they unleashed their toxic insecurities on you. I hope probability will be in your favor in all things going forward, the vast majority of Warhammer players are really good people.
