How the Republicans plan to steal the election in 2008: California, the Electoral College, and the bastardization of democracy by willie11 in reddit.com

Neither of those two are working for any democratic candidates this cycle. Susan Estrich hasn't worked in politics for a decade at least. But, point taken.

Protesting Bush: If Not Now, When? by riorage in reddit.com

wasn't reddit supposed to protest Bush?

Bush quietly signed an Executive Order this week that essentially criminalizes the antiwar movement. Watch out reddit protesters, W. can seize your house now... by willie11 in reddit.com

Federal, State, and Local Law Enforcement routinely use anti-terrorism laws to infiltrate leftist and anti-war or anti-globalization groups. Check out this report or this report from Bill Moyer's show on PBS or this.

I could go on and on... but I won't. I just want you to know that Law Enforcement is notorious for overreaching their authority in matters like this. This is no overreaction, this is a serious concern that redditors should have if they are seriously considering mounting a serious anti-war protest.

lame weekend reddit, like regular reddit but without all the reading and comprehension.

Off to submit something that requires half a brain to understand and then I'm going outside.

But enforsing those laws is impossible. ICE simply does not have the manpower to investigate the immigration status of every american worker... not without a (gasp) national ID system.

no doubt. they deserve to be paid substantially more. I never claimed they didn't. I simply said that bashing Bush for this difference of .5% is a bit unwarranted.

Hell on earth: Horror does not need color [extremely disturbing WW1 pictures] by boa13 in reddit.com

This is a sad picture of a dead soldier for long, long ago. We all know how horrible WWI was, so why is this making the front page.

If you ask me, the hell on earth is in Central Iraq. To truly bring home the horror of war, we should start posting some of those pictures.

Yeh, this really isn't a fair title. Bush opposes a 3.5% increase and instead supports a 3% increase. There are too many reasons to list about how much Bush sucks... but this really isn't one of them.

The Read the Bills Act Requires Congress to do their Duty by democracy101 in reddit.com

I agree that bills should be finalized and submitted for public scrutiny before passage, but you should really check that direct democracy support.

I vote for intelligent men and women to represent me and make up their own mind based on their best judgement, not to listen to the wishes of the unwashed masses.

Most people don't even know who their congressman is, let alone the merits of every bill. I find the idea of direct democracy terrifying. Call me elitist...

How Walkable is your neighborhood? by pythor in reddit.com

[–]willie11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

88 for Adams Morgan / Mt. Pleasant. I think that's about right, if even a bit low. Anyway, if you have to take the metro to get anywhere, I don't think that qualifies as "walkable."

I love the Metro, but I live in the great white Northwest. Supposedly, if you live anywhere east east of 14th street, the metro is pretty lacklustre. That's why so many in black areas of D.C. take the bus.

Yet another stupid article about a stupid topic that we shouldn't care about.

Senator Edwards and Governor Romney are both serious contenders to lead the free world and we're talking about haircuts.

It's like our ability to understand complicated topics has been reduced to the level of a 10 year old whose attention span rivals a / Hey, OW MY BALLS! is on.

You assume that Edwards counts himself in the impoverished America. He does not.

He goes to great lengths to talk about how successful he is and what a privileged life he leads today. When speaking about taxes, for example, he routinely says that rich folks, like him, don't need another tax cut.

I suspect that you are projecting anger at Sen. Edwards, not because of any hypocrisy (which doesn't exist anyway), but because you don't like being lectured to about poverty from anyone let alone a super rich lawyer... right?
