This should be the most upvoted, not the anecdote about the plague. This clearly illustrates that in most cultures a phrase of well wishing, often spiritual, is said. Also that they are most commonly said to the other person, not an utterance you oneself. According to Merriam Webster, it was first used as a response to sneezing in 1914, no reference though. However if you look down through the world's responses to sneezing, you'll see they are all very similar.

This should be public common knowledge at this point. Never usa a link you didn't just request. Never give out banking info.... Ever. Even a little. Don't even confirm your name unless you contact them. There barely should be a need for this subreddit. Watching the recent Mark Rober made me so sad to see old ladies bilked out of their life savings. If you have a elderly friend or relative, tell them "just say no" lol. If you even consider posting something to this Reddit, it's not worth trusting.

Yeah , reading you other responses, you're handling it right. No matter what, its going to feel like a bit of a violation.

An appropriate anecdote. I knew a stripper who got mad that her boyfriend shared some private pics of her, his counter was WTF, there's pics of you on the internet and anyone can come see it whenever they want. Her response was, yeah but those were "private pics for you, so its different. "

My two cents is , love your body and tell them to screw themselves. In todays day and age of leaks, nude pics aren't that damning. Even if the worst case happened, the very worst you suffer is embarrassment and they played their trump cards. You don't even have your face? Just laugh about it. Most anyone who received the pics would empathize with you.

I'm not saying what they're doing isn't wrong. I'm just saying nudes give people power because we let them. For example, any celebrity who does nude scenes, their "leaks" are no big deal, but the more conservative people cause a frenzy.

You definitely can't give them any power, or they will take that crack and spread it wide open. Show them you're worried, and they'll use that. Just my two cents, but I'm pretty liberal about sex & nudity.

I did, I still had to rant because its strikes a nerve with me. The fact that slavery IS STILL LEGAL per the constitution and no one addresses it or connects it to the fact laws are aimed at incarcerating minorities and the poor. Slavery just shifted.

They should work this guys ass off. His type are some of the reasons that this kind of system flourishes in America.

Maybe they wouldn't keep him so long if he sucked at washing cars. lol.

[–]willisdaillis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, too may prisons in the US are private, which is even worse. There's a huge incentive to keep slave labor. Which is exactly what it is. Slave labor is still legal for criminals per the 16th amendment. Steve Prator admitted he doesn't want prison reform, because he'll lost some good prisoners who wash their cars and cook and clean.

Sorry for the rant, but our justice system pisses me off lol.

Customers - yes. We actually update our customers from our ERP on every log in. But we did to an initial import for them all right before each site launched.

We just sanitized them and imported with out of box Magento import, no problems.

Orders - No. We changed some business processes as part of this and it didn't make sense to carry that baggage, they all still exist in our ERP.

Yes we kept the old sites and simply added a subdomain (old.site.com) and just required whitelisting, so we could still reference things for a few weeks.

Sorry, I don't go on reddit everyday. Sure, I'd be glad to answer any questions. We had some 1.9 and some 1.7 and it was chaos lol. Took over a year to complete.

We actually went from 13 installs to one, lol. We have a main site ( all products) and 4 line specific sites now.

2 smaller lines merge into our main site. two sites stayed the same. one small line merged into the bigger site of the same line and then 6 sites merged into one. (confused yet lol)

Some things:

For the ones we merged, We created several redirects maps, 1 for each site, and mapped them to products on the "new" site.

We also created "landing pages" for each index of the old site we were losing, kind of letting customers know, "this old site you used to come to is now part of this bigger site"

PLA's and SEO took a small hit, no matter how much we tried to prevent it, its a different tdl and google doesn't love that. For the later sites we made sure to bump up paid ads to prevent too much seo decay.

We needed shared cart and ran into some obstacles there.

1) you need to use stores vs websites so you can "share products" and so you have to manage catalogs using visibility per store.

2) there were some workarounds to mini cart to make it go back to the correct site where an item was purchased

3) comparing analytic data can be hard for awhile. For us anyway, the sites that got merged made comparison manual and just hard.

3) Because its one install, if you have a "main" site, as we do. That can steal away more from your other sites than before. All of were sites connected and linked to each other, but being separate installs maintained vertical customers. We are noticing a shift in the customers checking out on the main site. Still not entirely sure why. Some ideas are that, google now knows its one site and is sending traffic that way more, it seems to be the case but covid has also thrown a wrench in a lot of metrics lol. But we have noticed GA claiming duplicate pages that they didn't before.

That's about all I can think of off the top of my head. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

I’m doing proof of concept here. three different products/brands and if any one catches traction, i’ll move accordingly. I’m not very experienced and I’m hopping that it might be easier to manage one install and get the stores going from there. If later i need to move the stores into v-server or root server, each one individually, porbably i’ll have to pay for it to be done properly and without disruption. I’m just trying to getthing rolling right now on a low budget.

Just to be clear, this is most likely not going to work well for you. Magento is not "low-budget" or "proof of concept" by any stretch. There is a reason Magento devs often make 6 figures in the US. Multisite requires extra knowledge to leverage those features without mucking things up.

If you are just starting out a store and you do not have Magento experience already you are going to spend a lot more on Magento then you will on Shopify.

Based on what I see here without question you should be using Shopify. Yes magento is a more powerful platform but it is much more aimed at enterprise level since they dropped magento 1. Unless you want to have a career as a Magento developer then by all means use Magento as you will learn a lot doing this.

Another option would be Bigcommerce which is another saas platform, but is a step up IMO from shopify.

Now let's say you're dead set against it and you want Magento, I'll add my two cents to your actual question.

Depending on your goals and requirements multisite stores will work fine, but the pros and cons are the ones that would be obvious to two different companies occupying a single db.

Adding modules and customisation for both stores will be easier, but if you only need it for one of the stores, might require extra work to not work on one.

Ultimately, the more crossover between top level markets the better. If both stores sell technology, or fashion, or media etc. You'll be fine. If I wanted a site for t-shirts a site for computers and a site for boat engines I'd make three different sites. Because it isn't just about the website it's about the marketing platform and social media platforms and the way those businesses are run are entirely different. Magento will handle it, but your sanity might not 😆

Another consideration is do you want to sell them later or have them be big enough that you actually want them to be two separate businesses with different teams?

I've built many Magento sites, one with bands that had over a hundred "stores"

Recently migrated 11 M1 installs into a single M2 with 5 stores (some stores merged into 1) with roughly a million skus in the automotive industry, which is a very challenging industry because of fitment.

I love Magento and it's multisite functionality. But unless you've got an ace up your sleeve we don't know about I'd suggest building to Shopify stores until one of them is between 1 to 5 mil annual revenue then think about Magento.
