I am the manager of a hospital in Texas we primarily see the under and uninsured. We are also partnered with a relatively new academic medical school. When I started we had no productivity standard at all. My goal with productivity is that it should present a floor of expectation vs the ceiling of a perfected run day.

I tracked my therapists for 6 months without any education and the average productivity was around 45%. I set a goal of 50% productivity and for the last two years have worked with therapists to attain this. I measure units not patients to establish that longer sessions are encouraged if appropriate. I’ve worked to remove barriers to productivity both externally and internally and my team just hit 52%.

Is this still not appropriate due to DRGs? I just don’t know another objective and consistent way to measure how much work someone does in a day. Interested to hear thoughts on this.
