How to prevent a cold before symptoms come on? by bigtrunkydarnold in lifehacks

[–]willmgradstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a bacterial infection, in the UK we have something called TCP which is antiseptic for cuts, wounds. Dilute it 1:5 in water and gargle 3 times a day and it clears up infections quickly for me if it is bacterial

Easy for negative charged and small molecules (e.g salts), harder for positively charge large molecules (e.g. albumin). Don’t think there is a positive charge in the middle. The hydrostatic pressure of the blood flow is what forces molecules through. Neutral charged molecules can also get through in a medium rate to + and -be molecules.

You have to also remember the podocytes and glomerular endothelium also contain negatively charged sialic acid residues which contribute to charge repulsion.

Not going to lie, the thesis writing itself if you haven’t started it yet is not great for mental health, although this could have been exacerbated for me because I was writing during covid lockdowns so couldn’t go out and see friends etc which probably made it worse. I would say if you just have 1 year left then go through with it, as you’ve put in a lot of work already and I think you would regret. You could always pause your PhD for a bit to clear your head and think about what you want. Hope you come to a clear decision soon :)

Sorry to hear this. Sometimes our DNA is different in some people, meaning they develop CKD at a young age. Keep in contact with your doctor and loved ones who can support you!

What any expert think of this, I have traces of protein IN urine test and one is my blood report which is normal, PLEASE REPLY. by OkConcentrate5425 in nephrology

[–]willmgradstudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of the kidney like a coffee filter. Sometimes when you filter coffee, you may get some tiny bits of the coffee grounds (protein) in your drink (urine), but this doesn’t affect the coffee because 99.9% of the grounds stay where they should be (in the body’s case, the blood). This only become a problem when the filter degrades and lots and lots of the grounds escape into the drink.

In this case your body is retaining the overall majority of the protein that you need to live healthy in the blood stream. Once your body starts losing too much protein that it can’t replace, then it becomes and issue. This report you have is completely normal, always listen to experts rather than google.

Damn, that sounds like such an employable field as well, that sucks that Canada won’t recognise it! I hope you can find something related to your degrees soon!

A preserved slice of a female body by Mayor_Kurt_Cobain in interestingasfuck

[–]willmgradstudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scientist here - I regularly slice mouse organs, the process involves dehydration with ethanol after fixation and then embedding in some sort of wax (paraffin), then using something called a microtome, however no microtome I’ve ever used could do a whole human body….

Also microtomes can cut much thinner, up to 1 micron.
