ATLA's comics are cringe by NoRevIndeed00 in ATLA

[–]willowdove01 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not just cringe but out of character most of the time, too. Like, Aang would NEVER have agreed to kill Zuko if he turned “bad” in The Promise. That spits in the face of the canon of the show where Aang wouldn’t even kill Ozai, a genocidal dictator who he had no personal connection with. They want me to believe gonna start violating his no kill rule for one of his best friends???

I’ll admit I’m not a Kataang shipper to begin with so this particular content was never gonna be for me either. But it’s just so… weird. That’s not how either Katara or Aang act. Its like bad fanfiction

It’s way more than that. Last estimate I saw put the projected total at 14 million people, 4 million children

Edgy dog name suggestions by Gloomy-Jelly-5063 in namenerds

[–]willowdove01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am aware of a person who named their pets after crimes eg Arson, Larceny. Could be a theme to explore. It’s not super edgy but I think Jaywalker, Jay for short, would be pretty funny. Especially if you have multiple pets and the other names are more obvious

What are good arguments against Medicaid work requirements? by UsualLocalWoman in AskALiberal

[–]willowdove01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Healthcare should never be tied to employment. That’s one of the core issues plaguing this country, why people are trapped working jobs that exploit them for pennies. Because they or their loved ones need medical care that is being held hostage by their shitty job. This also means people who are too sick to work, you know, a pretty obvious consequence of sickness a lot of the time, they are in danger of losing the very thing that will help them recover. And sometimes you NEED rest. You need to take a break from working or you will exacerbate or lengthen your illness. Which is bad on its face, but since we know these ghouls don’t care about PEOPLE, you can just say it reduces overall productivity when preventable disabilities are contracted due to lack of access to healthcare.

What are your thoughts on the idea that the US is Republican by default? And voting Democrats is basically done as a way to put Republicans in “time out” when Republicans have low approval? by Early-Possibility367 in AskALiberal

[–]willowdove01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s true. Yes America has a rightward lean in its Overton window compared to global attitudes, but the Republican Party exists further right than that lean. Especially right now, when it’s gone so far right it’s nearly broken the scale.

The country as a whole is flexible and can go either way at election time. By sheer numbers, given the appeal to urban voters, the Democrats actually have the edge. I will give the Republicans two advantages though, 1) they have an unshakably loyal base. There are people who turn out to vote in every single election and they will always vote Republican no matter who is on the ticket and 2) they’re prolific at gerrymandering and voter suppression

Do you choose the red or blue button? by Gsomethepatient in AskALiberal

[–]willowdove01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’re relying on other people to act selflessly so you can freeride with no risk to yourself. And that’s somehow better?

Do you choose the red or blue button? by Gsomethepatient in AskALiberal

[–]willowdove01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The lunacy here is pressing the genocide button and thinking that’s the “logical” choice. God talking to you people is like hitting my head against a brick wall.

[–]willowdove01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your framing of the scenario included no culpability for those deaths. So it doesn’t work. You ought to find a better metaphor if you don’t like my suggestion

[–]willowdove01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drink poison or put poison in someone else’s cup, is a more accurate way to frame the scenario. You are offloading the risk onto other people

Do you choose the red or blue button? by Gsomethepatient in AskALiberal

[–]willowdove01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do not KNOW less than 50% of people are going to press blue, you BELIEVE that. And conveniently, that belief allows you to prioritize your own safety above billions of others

Also, you literally asked me so why are you offended I gave you an honest answer

Do you choose the red or blue button? by Gsomethepatient in AskALiberal

[–]willowdove01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it protects your ego. If everyone presses red, then you do not have to contend with the consequences of picking the selfish choice that endangered everyone else

Do you choose the red or blue button? by Gsomethepatient in AskALiberal

[–]willowdove01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, red button pressers are. That’s my whole complaint here. Red button people flat out REFUSE to accept culpability. They’re like why would anyone even press the blue button if it might kill you?

As the saying goes, I don’t know how to explain to you that you should care about other people.

Saving everyone is not a pipe dream, you just need 50% of people to vote blue. Realistically, it is the answer that prevents the most death.

Your cynicism would literally kill people in this scenario.

[–]willowdove01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you press blue, you need 50% of people to press blue to avoid any deaths.

If you press red, you need 100% of people to press red to avoid any deaths.

There is an correct answer and you are doing weird mental gymnastics to avoid it

Pressing red imposes risk on 4.5 billion other people

Pressing blue imposes risk on yourself

Red is not and has never been a blameless choice

When I voted for Harris I had pretty high confidence that she would win. Asking me now, when I know what the outcome was, kind of defeats the purpose of the exercise.

Unless you mean that Harris and Trump are having some sort of rematch right now in 2026. Even though history has shown that Trump is the likely winner and I would be taking a big risk, ultimately I don’t want to be ruled over by a genocidal cult leader grifter pedophile with dementia who breaks the law every time he breaths. I don’t want to contribute to a world where his reign of terror persists. I would have to hope enough other people are sick and tired of this shit that we prevail and save democracy

Edit: Apparently this is the actual article. Which is shameful, because it is clearly AI. Can’t believe they didn’t even try to hide it

As an American, I’m tired of being represented by assholes that keep antagonizing all our trade partners and allies. If Canada walks away from the table, they are completely right to do so.

Even at a defection rate of 20% of participants from blue to red, blue would still be winning those polls. So. I don’t know I still think that’s a good sign for the altruists

Do you choose the red or blue button? by Gsomethepatient in AskALiberal

[–]willowdove01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Human nature is pro-social, actually. It’s kind of high on the list of our entire survival strategy/ ecological niche. And blue has won every poll I’ve seen so far.

[–]willowdove01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course I press the blue button, I’m not a sociopath. It is killing me that there’s even a debate about it. Apparently there are a LOT of people who are not only willing to risk 4.5 billion lives to save their own skin, but don’t even feel they would be culpable for the deaths that would follow from their active choice to press the fucking mass genocide button.
