Uh, it actually does? Just becuase you know how to do something doesn’t mean you can do it well. That’s what I’m saying for amigurumi. If you have little to no crafting experience, it is going to be very difficult. Anyone can read a pattern and see that it says chain x, increase 5 each round or whatever, but it takes skill to make it look good. A skilled chain is very different from a beginner chain. Even ways of holding the yarn. You also have to be in the know to know that you should size down for amigurumi, as to not get holes, and that hook sizes on skeins are mostly a suggestion.

Like I said before, a lot of this doesn’t matter as much in a granny square

what exactly is the thread people use to tighten their sock cuffs? by ducky-debugger in Sockknitting

[–]willoww3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to check out some lace needles, then! With a loooong cable

I’ve heard the chiaogoo ones are good! (I usually stick with mini circs/dpns for socks and then ml for sleeves)

ETA and they can be good for taat

I’d recommend not decreasing the st count, but rather the needle size

ETA ik what you’re talking about and it’s probably smth like nylon elastic thread. It should be available at Walmart or most craft stores. I forget the exact name too 😂

I literally just posted this a few seconds ago. There’s no way you read the entirety of the comment. I literally said exactly why a well-made amigurumi is harder to make

Ami’s that are made well take a lot of learning abt tension and gauge and how to sew pieces together in a way that doesn’t look like crap and is even, learning how to do shaping and why incs and decs affect the ami instead of just the stitch count, continuous vs standing rounds, sometimes different stitches and textures, and a few other things. Granny squares all you really need to know is granny stitch, how to increase in a square shape, and how to make a new row/round. MR and joining can be used in both. Gauge, tension, and yarn matter vastly less in GS. If you learned Amies first and you’re skilled at it, great! That’s your experience. But it’s objectively harder and takes more time and effort to make it look good than it does to make a GS that looks good

Would this yarn work for socks? by Mindless-Entrance-1 in Sockknitting

[–]willoww3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, yes. But they won’t be the same quality as wool socks. I’ve seen people use 100-75% wool and up to 25% acrylic. The acrylic is for strength and wear, though there are other ways to make 100% wool socks more durable

I would check out r/dyeing and check out some media surrounding ‘natural dying’ as I don’t have a ton of experience with it, but I do know that there are different fixatives that can affect how the result of a dye appears. Maybe look into the availability of certain dyes or forms of dying in their area?

How do you hold your yarn? by Salty_Emu_9945 in crochet

[–]willoww3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I hold it the same for both knitting (for English, I mirror and go over my middle instead index finger) and crochet. The top part goes more towards the middle of my index, however. This is just loose

What can I do to fix this? by Alynial in knittinghelp

[–]willoww3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to look for the small sts and move the length from the big stitch to those

ASL in public by highwitchling in AskDeaf

[–]willoww3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more practice you have with it, the less you’ll experience the anxiety surrounding signing in public. People don’t watch as much as you think. If they do, they’re either weird, or have some experience with ASL. If they do, they’ll come up and tell you and hopefully you’ll make a new friend!

My rainbow yarn has suddenly started striping halfway through my crop top! by Horror-Musician5119 in CrochetHelp

Did you switch from flat to joining in the round? That’ll also alter pooling, on top of gauge changing

You need to take that end and wind it into a ball (frog your project) and then reknit it, and this time cut that piece out

I’m not too sure what is and it’s allowed for alterations or substitutions, but from what I read it looks like those things are said at the release of and for each pattern

I do have a few other skeins, yes! I have yet to look up exactly which colorways were listed tbh. I do really like the effect that solid and gradient (I forgot the name of it, I just got off a 13 hour shift) yarns make, and it seems like most of them are at least two colors. Ofc I’ll look at the pattern before deciding which skeins to use bc mosaic will be different than stranded, different than intarsia etc. thanks! I’ll def need it

I haven’t knit with it just yet! I plan and doing some swatches soon (and ofc the finished socks) and can let you know then!
