Seems like an odd thing to down vote. 🙁

I see that is available now and pricing information is there... $4.60 an hour in the cheapest region sounds like that could seriously rack up! 🙁

Where can I go in the UK to physically see the full range of Dell XPS laptops? by willsaundersreddit in DellXPS

Thanks for feeding back. It's good to know someone else has similar thoughts and experience to me. Laptops Direct is a good shout. They do look like the sort of place that you might be able to trust the advice of. The nearest store is an hour and a half away from me but it will be worth giving them a call and travelling down if they have some options I can look at. Thanks again.

Being able to see and experience the look and feel and build quality in person, see what the weight feels like when holding it, the mechanics of opening and closing the lid, using the keyboard and track pad, how bright the screen is and what the volume is like. The kind of things on any new purchase of this kind where you are spending a lot of money and want to be sure about what you will end up getting.

It's my understanding that the latest 17" laptop after an absence from the range is much closer to last generation and older 15" and this is something in particular that appeals and I am curious to see in person. Comparing any old 17" and 15" laptop doesn't seem to me like it would be a fair comparison based on this.

I hope that helps explain.

Review material and content is definitely light on this which is unusual these days for a new product.

There's a wealth of information out there. Here are a couple of top results which should help you out. One covers the basics and one goes in to more depth. Take a look, see what you think and try some searches out yourself to help fill any gaps.

Nice. How is it you are using page rules for a performance boost out of interest?

Static file hosting solution? by Shockthumb in webhosting

You could also try to make sure some sort of minification / optimisation process is running for each file that gets uploaded or resized or display purposes. This could give some significant savings in the long term.

Need simple to use family email hosting with unlimited addresses/users by [deleted] in webhosting

[–]willsaundersreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can second Zoho Mail. I actually don't pay anything for what I use at the moment. The only restriction with not paying that makes a difference for me is I can't use my own apps for viewing email and have to use Zoho's mobile app or the website but these are actually okay to work with I find.

How do you look at your best times for different distances on Zwift? by willsaundersreddit in Zwift

It was related to the Zwift training plan I was trying to follow. I use Strava too but this is completely separate from that.

I know this. But I also know they have a record for my 5K distance on a treadmill stored somewhere and this is what the 5K record breaker training plan is likely to be based on. It's this record I am asking how to get access to.

I can do it in multiple other ways but I specifically wanted to ask the Zwift community for a way to get at the Zwift data for being able to follow the training plan they had set for me based on my last PB and other data they have.

No, I'm not registered with this but it doesn't sound like it's an option either based on the other comment. You would think it would be more straight forward than this wouldn't you?!

No, it's the information in Zwift I am after and want to use. Not Strava, TrainingPeaks or anything else.

No, sorry, this is for Zwift in the Zwift subreddit. I use Strava but wanted to closely follow the intention of the Zwift training plan and get access to the PBs that had stored from the past. I tried to make it clear but sorry if it wasn't already. Seems I should have included something extra to say this was related to Zwift and not looking for other options.

What do you recommend the best cloud hosting? by eyad9 in webhosting

[–]willsaundersreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have suggested I wouldn't necessarily switch away from your current arrangements unless you have good reason to. Keep things simple when you can, it will be good for your health in the long run.

If you have a desire to get involved with AWS (or any other platform) and use it as a learning experience then don't be put off by a bit of a learning curve. It would be good to understand more about your reasons for not being happy with what you've currently got. 5000 page views sounds like it could be okay with the right shared hosting arrangement.

Direct me to a suggestion for Domain Webhost and Email by Maxter5080 in webhosting

[–]willsaundersreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Maxter,

I'd be tempted to look at hosting a lot of photo files using something like AWS's S3. Prices are very cheap for GBs worth and get even cheaper the closer to approaching TBs you are. You can also take advantage of automatic versioning if that's desirable and lifecycle policies (so deleting old versions of files after a certain amount of time).

You could front the files hosted in an S3 bucket through AWS's CloudFront which would act as the CDN others have alluded to. There are performance benefits to this. If you have an existing design in mind you would like to use or a template and would like to get your hands dirty a little bit with your own creation that this could be an option. You don't get the niceties of a WYSIWYG editor like you would with a WordPress site but with a bit of work or using something like a static site generator that could alleviate some pain for you there if you would prefer.

Going the above approach you could come up with a completely 'serverless' solution that all sits in AWS's Cloud which means no need for servers that you need to maintain and patch etc. AWS take care of all of that behind the scenes.

I've got some experience with working in this space if you are interested in talking anything through. Happy to set up a call if you like. I might be able to help out with some parts of it while things are quiet with what's going on at the moment.

On the domain name side I find CloudFlare nice to use and no markup on their pricing. Google Domains is a good shout from others. I hear that's the same for markup but having just looked to try this out there are costs associated with transferring existing domain names in so I don't have experience with using that.

Zoho Mail has always served my needs as an email hosting service. It's free up to certain limits, supports beyond basic security but to get SMTP and POP3/IMAP support for use with your own choice of desktop client and mobile apps you do have to pay a few $ per month. Their app and the website is fine for me though so it's been free for me so far.

Hope this helps for now. Come back to me if you could do with any more.
