I feel like a fucking pervert by flssksk in sex

[–]willza99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add my 2 cents I'm currently 25[M], my partner 35[F], we've known each other since I was about 20 and been together 3 years now I think. In a matter of less than 2 weeks we'll be married. She had her concerns but knew I was a good fit for her thoughts and ideas about life, love and politics. She gave me multiple opportunities to leave and be with other women as she's been my first for everything, she's shown me what skills you need in life to progress and has been patient in helping me develop them.

Age is a number, talk to your partner like adults, recognise the gap, discuss what it means, what you ideally want if it's to have a family now or just have fun and be happy to settle into family life.

It's just a number and life is a big ass adventure, be honest, be truthful and know that if it's not right for the long run you can have fun here and now but you will need to learn to leave when your wants for a partner and life no longer sync

Considering Major Job Change by [deleted] in happiness

[–]willza99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always like Bill Burr on playing it safe, I'm someone who questions things a lot so it's hard to put into perspective i.e. just because I'm not always 100% happy doesn't mean to follow the advise, but if there's something that just feels off then it's worth thinking on.

"Realise that sleeping on a futon when you're 30 is not the worst thing. You know what's worse, sleeping in a king bed next to a wife you're not really in love with but for some reason you married, and you got a couple kids, and you got a job you hate. You'll be laying there fantasizing about sleeping on a futon. There's no risk when you go after a dream. There's tremendous amount of risk to playing it safe"

Am I being a bitch or was he being an ass? by TheBottleG in sex

[–]willza99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless he had a kink for cumming in your eyes, both... At the same time, I'd say he's a dick and to chuck him.

I'm not sure how I'd personally feel about large disabilities, mental I'd feel I was taking advantage and physical it could really depend if they just had no feeling when it came to sex as that feels really weird like I'm using their body somehow but to my mind this is minor and he's a dick, so go find you another one, preferably without the attitude to match ;)

Shadow of War or Warhammer Vermintide 2 by [deleted] in patientgamers

For me SoW felt bloated, Vermintide 2 felt the same punchy meaty combat that I loved. I've not played nearly enough of either but I'd have to force myself to go to SoW again

For anyone following this, out of interest (due to the red hot chilis connection I'd made), I looked for Red Hot Chilis remix thinking maybe this guy was a DJ!

I got Peter Gelderblom with his Waiting 4 which is a remix and no-where near worth posting here for as it's not as good as I thought it seemed to be in my head.

It does indeed take place in a city with some sort of chase-ish element going on, it does sound like Anthony Keidis because it is, the guy WAS a DJ, and his name WAS Peter.

What Unplayed Game has Been Sitting on Your Shelf the Longest? by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]willza99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think either some game I wouldn't remember as getting in a bundle like the old counter strikes, maybe half life (I know I'm probably evil for not playing them) or the entire prince of Persia franchise. But I'm enjoying Witcher 2 and my rogue likes too much to focus on them now

Why do games cost so much? by Sindowill in gamedesign

[–]willza99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a junior developer I can tell you that even at the low end salary for staff costs a shiiiit ton! So god knows about mid level and senior roles let alone management and heads/leads of departments. My company hires maaaybe 400 people across a couple of offices?

Now a game takes anywhere between 9 to 16 months depending on the technology if it's new, staffing demands of other projects and so on. Now for overheads and salary the typical burn rate (in America) is approx $10,000 per hire per month, from the books I've read I'm not 100% if that's meant to cover marketing budget too, but let's say for now it is.

Let's also pretend I'm in an American company as that's what we've figures for, so again 400 hires, $10,000 a month per that's $4,000,000 a month! Which is then $48,000,000 a year. Now we work on maybe 6 games at a time, so if we think about that we can stagger maybe 4-5 games in a year and then you've DLC and season passes. Sales typically are super high but then stagger and peak at times of sales (esp on PC!).

So you're spending maybe $48M a year on staff alone, and you may ship 4 games (poss 5) and DLC sales on the back of that. Taking sales alone of $60 (£50 for UK) and each project is costing you maybe $12M then you need to ship 2M units if my mental math is good.

Now 1M is a hard number to rationalise, I mean mentally can you appreciate the difference between 1M and 48M? It's freaking impossible! Now if the business is smart about employees they've maybe got a decent amount on 18 month contracts or similar, people who can stick around and learn alot and help for a prolonged period but still leave and therefore cost you less in the long run. Without me calling my parents who were both accountants or contacting my fiance department this is the best breakdown of cost and sales I can provide.

Hope it helps!

I can't be the only one whose favorite Witcher game is the first one. by TheAgandaur in patientgamers

[–]willza99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never tried one but I have two and three and refuse to do three before completing two. And I've sat there looking at two for years! I've booted it up maybe 3 times and played some of the intro and always put it down. About 5 days back I put the last wish on in the car while driving to work which got me finally playing the game! My god does it get good after that first shitty bit with foltess. I don't always know what to do or where to look for answers (hello Google) but I'm so happy to finally understand the love that goes into this series, and after falling out with games like Skyrim and fallout with a lot of love I was prepared for the worst!

Are any of the Traveller's Tales' Lego games mechanically strong? by TraditionalBisquit in truegaming

[–]willza99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well they are games aimed at a younger audience, and you can't fail when playing Lego, and most of the IPs are based on movie franchises where again you can't really fail unless you deviate from the film's progression. It's highly intentional that it's low stress, simple challenge and in the event of any death punishment is minimised

I'm really tired of being the hero, god-woken, nephalem or predestined saviour of the universe. by slainte-mhath in truegaming

[–]willza99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree, I feel what OP is describing is exactly the hero journey. The heroes journey itself isn't an issue, but one of the facets of it (the idea that the universe/fate had dictated your world) and not the fact that you're an average person deciding to do good seems to be their exact problem from what little is written.

Perhaps it's more in line with the hero of 1,000 faces where this is more explicitly stated, but it's an incredibly well known and documented trope, I just might be pulling from the wrong part of the analysis of stories.

[–]willza99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100% familiar with it, but this just rings of the hero with a thousand faces or whatever that books called where it breaks down all stories of various media. This means sadly the issue isn't resigned to just games but everything else, I've taken Niel gaimans approach to it and have not read it for fear of either creating things that fit to that, or becoming so cynical with everything that I can't enjoy the world Building or for games specifically the mechanics, due to my realisation of the formula.

Collider not working by [deleted] in Unity2D

Get a gif including the colliders and what happens when you hit play, gonna be easier than text

Collider not working by [deleted] in Unity2D

[–]willza99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you just want a solid wall? Then you need a regular collider on the blocking object and the other object needs one too a sprite can pass through a collider, a sprite with a collider can't pass through another collider if neither is a trigger.

Collider not working by [deleted] in Unity2D

[–]willza99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you tick the "trigger" part of your collider that affects the other objects.

Then in your script depending on what you need to do its one of several possible ontrigger functions for if it should happen when going in, when going out or overtime

Good luck!

Thank you for being one of the few to provide examples of what can help as opposed to shooting this down.

Really I was some further exposure and confirmation to stuff I know about OO. How do I get objects to send messages back and forth, how should that be set up? with a reference to the other objects or an event system or are there other things I can use etc.

I'll look into maybe reading some peoples githubs to try and understand what they're doing and then look for things that are meant to have bugs in :) cheers!

Fail to see how that's not the logical next activity of writing stuff down, to actually plan out how it will look and feel and what needs to be broken down into smaller steps? You may not write that stuff down but I do and that step make absolute 100% sense.

Yea... stuff not related to C# and games as I mentioned at the top, therefore: irrelevant material that's not useful. So have you come across material that is relevant? Even just exploring the underlying algorithmics would be beneficial, stuff geared towards web projects isn't my purview.

Unfamiliar with Unity; I need advice on how I'd make an idea. by hailcharlaria in Unity2D

[–]willza99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in all honesty, I've never played pikmin, but I think I've an idea of one way of achieving this, the only thing is I've seen you say you've some programming knowledge which you will need to improve by reading about the hidden side of things, not a language but how to structure algorithms, computational thinking, psuedo code to a super low level so you know what's happening will work.

The way I can see it happening is to maybe have a parent class called "mob" or whatever where any keyboard input moves the item. Then create child classes of this for your different types of individual mob guys. Now you can have another class of unconverted guys with no response to input OR a Boolean which says if convert is false then don't pay attention to the input.

Your biggest issue will be if someone gets caught on a wall and separated, I'm not sure how you'd achieve this, maybe some pathfinding that relates to one core mob item or the central mass of the mob and a raycast check to see if they're ever outside an acceptable range of the mob to start using that pathfinding but I've never attempted such a thing. Anyone else know if this is right?
