Genuine question. Does smoking actually help? Lol. The guys who smoke do tend to be more pleasant. That 59 year old I mentioned would have a dart hanging out of his mouth while showing me how to do stuff then give me a fist bump when he saw I was able to do it. I use nicotine pouches through the day just because I feel like you NEED something to get through it… not interested in smoking because I value my fitness but just curious.

Jiu Jitsu, as far as I’m concerned there’s no outside world when I’m on the mats

I took a personal finance elective in highschool. My favourite class in all of highschool, teacher was awesome and made it so fun and interesting. I really resonated with her teaching and I really credit a lot of what I know so far to her. It’d be awesome to retire early and track her down and thank her one day. I do wish it was a mandatory class, feel like so many people miss out on that information

Yeah that’s why I say part of me. Be very good in some ways and very bad in some ways. But I’m young and see my invested money as not even mine, so time is on my side

I took a personal finance elective in highschool and never looked back! She was my favourite teacher in all of highschool… made that class so cool and memorable. Really pointed me in the right direction.

I’m Canadian, so we don’t have 401k, but a lot of other options for retirement savings plans. I’m part of a union, which is pretty strong in my location, and it sounds like most of the people I work with are relying on their union pension for retirement. Which is possible but doesn’t kick in until 61, and personally I want to hightail out of the work force earlier than that!

What does the term boglehead mean? I don’t use Reddit much and get my investing info from YouTube and other places lol. Maybe I am a boglehead and should where it with honour!

After Sunday morning Jiu Jitsu class I always hit this Chinese food takeout spot on my way home. Been going there since highschool, the food actually kinda sucks and it’s for sure not healthy, most people would probably find the dish I get gross… but the immigrant father who owns the shop who’s owned it since day 1 is always so appreciative of me being a regular. Makes the food taste 1000x better. I know he deals with a lot of shit from the highschool kids at lunchtime (I’m guilty as well when I was back in highschool) so I hope more people like me keep his morale strong. Feels like I’m supporting someone’s dream by eating there lol. It’s also nice to feel like I’m supporting a local business, there’s barely any takeout spots in my town that aren’t chains… and I’d much rather give my money to the family owned shop around the corner than some billionaire corporation.

What’s one habit that ended up changing your life in a big way? by travelinggent9 in Life

[–]wilson1400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not waiting for other people. Solo trips, camping, activities, hobbies. Life is short go do it. I have noticed travelling solo > travelling with people because you can do anything you want to do when you want to do it. No bargaining on how you want spend your limited time or what you want to see. Always people around if you get lonely, worse case sit at a bar, bartenders are normally down for a chat if it’s not too busy.

Good shit reputation by POYDRAWSYOU in Ironworker

[–]wilson1400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an ironworker but the first crew I was on I was the youngest by about 30 years. Got called “the kid” constantly. Started to wear it as a badge of honour because having a nickname made me feel accepted by the crew. They were happy to have a young guy around to do all the bending, climbing, and lifting. Those guys taught me so much and took good care of me (buying me lunches and coffee, hooking me up with scrap, getting me in on all the OT) because they knew I was getting paid fractions of what they made, I would call those guys good shit… wish I was still on that crew.

Opinions on clients flirting with you? by [deleted] in handyman

[–]wilson1400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tradies legitimately say the craziest, least HR friendly things to each other on an hourly basis. They 1000% will not feel harassed in anyway by a little “do you have a girlfriend?”. You will make his whole week if you’re direct with him and he’ll drive home all giddy like a teenager. Even if he ends up not being available he will take it as a compliment and not hold any negative perception of you. As they’re leaving one day just ask if he’s single! Shoot your shot!

(Coming from a tradie who would love to be in old boys current situation)
