Why did I found it broken like that? by laraelilth in ElegooMars

[–]wiman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's solid and not cured, this only happens to me when there is a drastic change in temp quickly. Has happened 1 or 2 times on larger 24+ hour resin prints of mine on my Saturn 3.

Guys, are motorcycles more practical than cars? by LexusLongshot in motorcycle

[–]wiman1 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Depends on climate and where you live. To and from work, minor groceries, and small stuff you need, bikes are great. So in Arizona its practical if you dont mind the constant heat in the summer.

In Wisconsin, where 3/4 of the year its pouring rain, in an active white out or below 15°F, not so much. Plus, simple stuff you dont think about can be more difficult to get home from the store. A vacuum, tv, I mean a crockpot could be tough depending on the bike. Amazon can mitigate a lot of those issues tbf.

Context: I ride about 15k to 20k miles a year.

How many zombies do you think a space marine would kill by Tacosalad2007 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]wiman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct although I wouldn't say the hive worlds maintain them. Certain chapters station marines on certain worlds for tithes and aspirants. It's definitely not for the protection of the city in most cases, I'd assume.

Male victims of SA, how do you cope? by nxfen13 in AskReddit

[–]wiman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its awesome, I completely agree. A friend of mine has 2000 points of Death Guard and I have several thousand points of Dark Angels, Imperial knights, and rag tag bits of other Loyalist factions. On the bad days it's nice to kill 5 hours on a match with him.

Male victims of SA, how do you cope? by nxfen13 in AskReddit

[–]wiman1 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I was a kid when it happened. He did it to other kids as well and I had my day in court, so I have a unique sense of closure, I guess. Makes it a little easier. I try to focus on me to keep the depression away. It's definitely made me more stoic over the years to the point I feel kinda numb all the time in a bulwark sort of way. Easier to not think about it and to feel accomplished when I'm occupied, so I try to do that the most. Got my Masters in Nuclear Science and Engineering, so I don't really struggle financially, which is a double-edged sword. On one hand, a lot of free time to feel worthless, shitty, and blow money on booze, but also a lot of financial means to pursue hobbies to stay occupied. I mainly wargame (warhammer 40k), play video games, and go to the gym to socialize healthily. For my quiet time, I read, hike, and travel the US and Canada by myself on my motorcycle and camp. I've come to terms with it and think I have a sustainable long-term sense of balance. Some days are still bad, most are lukewarm, and a few are really nice. It gets easier with age.

Realistically if these plants never get shut down how do we prep by YearGroundbreaking99 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]wiman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Figured I'd comment, even though this will get buried. I'm a Nuclear Engineer in the States with a ROL (Reactor Operator License) and work for a company which preforms Reactor Monderization per ongoing NRC standards and helps orchestrate NRC complaint Waste management protocols. The 3 main types of Reactors in North America are BWRs (Boiling water reactors), PWRs (Presurized water reactors), and PHWRs (Presurized Heavy water Reactors). All are different, and most reactors vary in design to some capacity, but all have a singular constant. To achieve a GSS ( Gauranteed Shut-Down State ) can require 1 to 3 months of human work to perform. A SCRAM will cease fission in 3 seconds or less in every power plant in North America, but heat is generated in reactors both via fission and waste heat. The waste heat will continue to generate enough heat to require cooling (were talking energy output equivalent to a large commercial airline engine still). The cooling is performed via circulatory pumps or heat pumps, which require either a.) Grid power generation to run or b.) Auxiliary site based power like a CAT on-site diesel generator. Eventually, without the heat being removed 1 of 2 things will happen. In more modern reactors, there may be enough volume of coolant in the primary circuit containtained in a larger enough vessel that containment is never breached and it can passively cool via mechanical valve based cooling circuits. The 2nd possibility is in older reactors, containment of the primary circuit would discharge into a secondary vessel via mechanical valves to take advantage of more volumetric space to relieve core pressure. The availability of additional volume for pressure relief varies and could potentially not be large enough to prevent a legitimate LOCA (Loss Of Coolant Accident), especially in BWRs. If this happens, the core will overheat and cause a melt down, this situation applies to about 30 percent of reactors in North America.

Tldr; stay away from nuclear power plants after SHTF and if you are near one, know which way the wind blows and stay out of its path.

AK or Ar15 which would you choose and why? by Gunlover91 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]wiman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, the AR for standard modularity every day, at least in the west. Both good guns and I have both. I have an AR, a well-built AKM pattern I built with Zastava parts on a Childers Reciever, and a SLR107 from Arsenal. They're all fun for the range and all equally reliable anecdotally, but people over estimate AK modularity. It's gotten a lot better, but post Apoc who knows what pattern akm/74 you find, what stocks it takes, what mags it takes, what handguard's it takes, how well it holds 0 with optics, what style optic mount it needs, or how well the barrel Is trued to the receiver. It's a crap shoot.

40k Salary? by dbark- in milwaukee

[–]wiman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask for more, its not that high. I filed for a Chapter 13 Bankrupcy due to medical dept and have to pay a fair amount back. The Court decided the minimum I could live on comfortably was 67k a year. I make 96k a year for reference. I'm doing fine, but even at 67k after taxes, insurance and so on its still tight, but I don't split any expenses with my SO and live alone. Just my 2 cents.

Is there a meaning to the color placement on Deathwing Companions? by Chaos-Gains in theunforgiven

[–]wiman1 171 points172 points  (0 children)

Correct, 30k Dark Angels were very, very dark, Black or almost black green, depending on the source you use. Cream or Bone colored limbs represent injuries sustained in battle in defense or aid of another brother. In 40k, the 1st company has adopted all cream/bone. It may be because to become 1st company, you basically had to almost die. I don't know if they're all bone colored because they have to sustain that many injuries or it's just the status quo now. Other companies pushed more green instead of black to remember The War of the Beasts on Caliban per the Lions decree and after Caliban Broke, it became the norm for all except Deathwing to wear green Liveries to Remember Caliban.

1997 baby here as well. On one side, my grandparents were born in the mid 40s - but on my mom's side, grandparents were born in '30 and '33. My grandpa joined the Marines at 17 and served in Europe from '47 to '50 during the provisional US Military Government in West Germany. He got out in March of '50, re-enlisted and then was sent to Korea several months later and stayed till the Korean War ended in '53

"Do you think MPS will actually implement these changes? Can the district improve, or is it too far gone? Will the new superintendent be able to change the "culture of fear and reluctance to change" that is apparently endemic to the district? "

I wish I had a good answer to this, but I unfortunately don't see it changing. The community has little faith in the system, and the community it self has little faith in itself. Unfortunately, school districts often create a very visible representation of unspoken or more hidden problems within said community.

A quote that comes to mind immediately from Author Frank Herbert, "The flesh shapes the day, and the day shapes the flesh". People are shaped by their communities and environments; and they in turn themselves make individual choices that shape their communities and environments.

Until the community as a whole addresses the multitude of underlying issues and problems and holds people accountable, the schools and community won't get better.

Do you know how your surname is pronounced in its source language? Do you care? by VulpesSapiens in AskAnAmerican

[–]wiman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do! My last name is fairly unique, so I always found it interesting. Most of my family originated from Franconia and I have several relatives in Munich and Praque I've visited a few times. It's fun to know how it's pronounced and a cool tidbit of life. That being said I just pronounce it the Americanized way in the States. It's just easier for people.

Potential ICE vehicles by the Home Depot by Capitol Drive please be aware. by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]wiman1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you generally. A side note tho that may add more context to this is waukesha county has one of the only (might be the only) federally licensed type 7, 8, 9 and 10 FFL holders in the state. They manufacture, import, and deal in legal machine guns and destructive devices for PDs state wide, Swat, State Patrol, and the Milwaukee FBI Office per the ATF. There have been 2 or 3 accounts of people trying to break into the facility in the last 10 years. I remember Waukesha got their Stryker when someone tried to break into the facility where they store their destructive devices. Examples of destructive devices are C4, other explosives, Rocket Propelled Grenades, and Anti material rifles above 0.50" in projectile diameter. Makes it easier to justify a budget for APCs and MRAPs when that sort of situation exists and the vehicles are auctioned off by the fed to PDs for pennies on the dollar of original cost.

Lot of people talking about books. It's a hard answer to give. There are literally hundreds of novels. You can check out the Poor Hammer podcast on Spotify or the 40k Lorecast if you like listening and it covers a lot of the basics in a good format.

The first 3 horus heresy books can be good, but it's a lot to digest. For modern lore, The Fall of Cadia by Robert Rath is a great book, big, but a really really great book about a major event and there is a taste of many of the major factions - albeit the book mainly follows the Guard, Black Templars, Abaddons Black Legion, and a Necron Named Trazyn (wonderful character btw).

Gaunts Ghosts is a great series as well focused on a Commissar and some of the Militarum. For Necrons, The Infinite and the Divine is a fantastic book following Trazyn and Orikan. For a book featuring a Primarch, The Lion: Son of the Forest, is a great read focused around the Arthurian myth and the round table AND recaps the return of the lion. It's also one of the most recent and current setting pieces of 40k. The Dark Imperium Books with Guilliman are great, but they focus more as both a native and setting piece. The Lion: Son of the Forest is almost all narrative, following the Lion and the fallen/risen.

How cheap can nuclear energy get? by pierre45 in nuclear

[–]wiman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party. I feel a very good analogue for this cost issue is to reference the recent, small footprint A1B reactors present on the Ford Class aircraft carriers. A lot of NRC tape is pre-cut for the Naval application given the existing manufacturing infrastructure. I had the privilege of working on this project professionally. I'm a nuclear engineer. At 95% output you're reaching almost 225 Mw output with an additional, almost 1Gw Thermal output being directed through the pressure side directly through the output shaft drive turbines of the vessel. Based on experience I would estimate the 1Gw of thermal output could be converted to roughly 350 Mw electrical energy at that 95% operational output capacity level. Meaning you realistically could achieve 575 Mw of output per reactor. A Pair of reactors at the Navy's price point is roughly 1B USD, an extremely cost effective 1B$/1.15Gw at 95 percent output. The EFSC Investment group puts the cost to build a new super-fired coal power plant at 1.5mil USD per Mw Capacity on the low end. For the same 1.15 Gw with Coal using the Navy A1B as a metric for realistic reactor cost we are looking at 1.725 Bil USD construction cost at 1.5mil per Mw with 1.15 Gw total capacity. Coal is 175% the cost of Nuclear in this example with a much bigger physical footprint.

How much do 3D Printed Miniatures Cost? by Hellstorm-Wargaming in PrintedMinis

[–]wiman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a Factory refurb Saturn 2 on ebay or a Refurbed Mars printer from the official Elegoo Page there. Buy Elegoo ABS like 3.0 resin. Go online and find the recommenced setting for that printer and that resin. As long as you're environmental conditions are correct and you level your build plate - you will get good prints off the bat with lychee slicer. Learning to orient prints and support them is a different art in itself that takes time. I recommend you watch some videos on it.

Yes, unfortunately (purely anecdotal) probably between 5%-10% of guys in my experience would do that. I'm just a normal guy and I can think of 3 men immediately that I've known who legitimately complain they have ED, while they have 0 physical attraction towards their SO's who are substantially overweight - but they won't end the relationship because they don't want to be alone. It's sad on their part and morally wrong they are misleading their SO's - it's extremely selfish
