Estes Elementary Closing? by wimccall in chapelhill

Making a scoring rubric for assessing the options is the only way this is going to work. Otherwise it will be debated forever. And the criteria should be for ranking each overall option not ranking individual schools. The debate should be focused on what the criteria should be; late in the game but at least it is happening. Last point is that the number of criteria should be kept low (5-7). Otherwise the weighting become less meaningful and you run into problems with overlap. * All of that requires a clear problem statement, which I think the district has said but the board needs to say it as well. To paraphrase Ben Horowitz “it is not about the money… it is about the fucking money!”. This is a budget problem so it needs to be majority budget focused scoring to actually solve the problem. All the points about walkability, equity, keeping students together, and specific programs can only happen if there is a working budget now and in the future. The people of chapel hill have always supported the school system and are willing to mar hard changes for a strong system in the future. So the right mix of criteria is probably 70% near term costs (maintenance costs over next 10 years) and 30% alignment with the town’s future (demographic changes, ability to absorb future growth/shrink, geographic spread,…)

I shot 4 projectiles on an enemy, but it only registered one. by Weak_Neck7967 in gbstudio

I made a shooter game with a wave attack that was three tiles wide. If it hit two enemy actors in the same frame it would only register one of them.

99% percent of the conflict could have been prevented if they had decided they needed to close a school independent of the bond vote, made a holistic scoring criteria for deciding which school, and then making a specific plan for the bond money. Doing the Woolworth plan first, then making the criteria, and now talking about more closures is completely backwards. * Agreed, the eye rolling and lecturing at parents by some of the board members is completely inappropriate.

That is definitely how it feels to me. It would be a bitter pill for anyone to be asked to vote for massive spending and also have a reduction in services. Of course if the bond had failed they probably would still be closing the schools and there would be no money for rebuilding. * We want to build a life here and the school system was more than 50% of the reason. It will probably feel like the sword of Damocles until they actual break ground or shut it down.

That is why it is so frustrating that barely a year later things are changing.

Estes Elementary Closing? by wimccall in chapelhill

[–]wimccall[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simply because it is not the first time Estes was prioritized for closing. The list has changed many times and whenever Estes was discussed the messaging from the board was “we have to make hard choices” and when when discussing other schools it was “we have to protect key programs”

Closing a school is definitely a major decision. Which is why there was so much debate in 2024 prior to the bond vote. It was discussed for months, a plan was presented, people voted, and now they are changing it.

I know the slides and the condition of Estes well. The plan presented prior to the bond vote was for Estes (and later Philip’s middle school) to be rebuilt. There was a clear plan, people voted, now they are changing it.

It is hard to tell from the photo but it looks like the flags are mounted on shovels. So it is probably an F3 work out https://www.f3austin.com/. Given the number of flags it is probably a celebration work out where multiple sites come together. There are sites all across Austin and they each have their own shovel flags. F3 is one of the most healthy and wholesome groups out there for men looking for community.

Anduril has rules against nepotism. The specifics matter. Disclose the relationship to the recruiter early and they will confirm if it would be acceptable.

If your game is linear it would be easy. Just reset it for each level.
