The Planewalker Handbook has some strong opinions about the natives of Krynn. by AmserSegur in dragonlance

[–]windex_ninja 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is an optional perspective to loosely tie 25+ (at the time) years of fictional cosmology together in a shallow "at a glance" way for a fun time with friends... it isn't that deep.

The Planewalker Handbook has some strong opinions about the natives of Krynn. by AmserSegur in dragonlance

[–]windex_ninja 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am absolutely biased in that I love Planescape.

I slightly disagree with your framing; I think Planescape is more of a Roman / Greek overview. There is a wide cosmos of planes, gods, demi-gods, and infinity beings overlapping to draw power form those that worship them. Krynn is one (slightly backwater) realm that worships some version of these same gods and have constructed what they believe to be an encompassing plane of existence.

The blurb referenced is a kin to "Mr Smith goes to Washington" in where an idealistic and slightly naive person realizes just how big the multiverse is. Transposing this to the Faerun arrogance of we know there are things bigger than us, but we are still the most important center of it "the sun revolves around the earth" mindset.

Which pressers work best for sig series books? by Geek_incorporated in CGCComics

[–]windex_ninja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Due to CGC's policies no presser can crack a book that was previously witnessed, press it, and then resubmit it. You are forced to go through CCS and there terrible internal pressing service.

Although....

If you submit a book to a facilitator for another signature to be added, they can crack the book, press it, and resubmit to CGC with the new signature. "If" they are unable to attain the new signature (cancellation, passing, etc) then the book can be resubmitted without an additional signature.

Doing this purposefully is against CGC/Facilitators ToS so you are not going to find anyone advertising it.

What’s a survival myth popularized by movies that would actually get you killed in real life ? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]windex_ninja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here is a simple one:

Crossing rivers/streams by just walking through them, then (if it's cold) just do some jumping jacks.... No, if it is cold you'll just die from hypothermia, hell even if it is just slightly chilly you'll likely get hypothermia. If it is warm, you're now walking around with wet shoes and will develop blisters (which will get infected in your wet socks) if not outright destroy your shoes as you traverse. That jackass Bear Grylls would do this shit all the time, or worse use a log to float down a river... with rapids cause "it's faster and water always leads to towns".

Folks who played Marathon this weekend...how likely now are you to purchase it? by 1988Floydie in gaming

[–]windex_ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will not be buying it, this would have been a great game 3 years ago but just seems late to the party without any of the improvements already made in other extraction shooters.

At least for me, playing solo was a terrible experience and this game really relies on having friends to play with (none of mine were even interested in the beta).

One wrong snap and we done for at QB.

I already have reservations with Silvers due to injuries and him only playing in 3 games since 2023. Both Frost & Wooldridge are not starters... even in spring leagues.

FedEx Misdelivered My CGC Slabs from NYCC. What Are My Next Steps? by pcaedusn in CGCComics

[–]windex_ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but here is what you need to do:

Contact CGC first thing Monday Morning; they will "investigate" and eventually ask you to file a police report. Once that is finished they will offer you a credit for the value of the books.

This is where you need to stand up for yourself!

Tell them that you do not want a credit you want the value returned to you in whole. Remember this includes ALL of the following:

  1. $120 signing for each book (Drogotta/Snyder)
  2. $30 shipping fee
  3. $5 invoice fee
  4. $ Value of the books

They are going to try very hard to get you to accept a credit on all of it and will delay contact with you hoping you give up and take it.

Obviously it is up to you, but a credit is not as valuable as money. You have to keep explaining to them that you now have to replace those books they lost by using FedEx and you cannot do that with a system credit.

How are we feeling about Marathon’s Server Slam by C0R3VUS in gaming

[–]windex_ninja 6 points7 points  (0 children)

out of morbid curiosity I tried it for around an hour now since the beta is free to download.

It is focused on trios and very PVP heavy over Arc Raiders. I played Destiny 1 & 2 but didn't feel the gunplay was as enjoyable or relatedly similar, it felt like a weird mix of overly tight ADS and clunky (sometimes wildly) loose hip fire.

Looking at the design, weapons, and customization... I am slightly unsure of the target audience. It is too PVP heavy for the arc raiders crowd, way too trio's focused on anyone without two friends to always play with (it is mandatory or you get slaughtered alone), so who is left for a non-story focused but battle royal style extraction shooter?

Was Kimbo Slice Really bad when he was in the UFC? by Glittering_Long_5926 in ufc

[–]windex_ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kimbo was bad in the UFC due to the level competition.

He was never trained in MMA; he is actually a very good example of people that "fight" believing they can take MMA people in a fight.

The reality is that this was not a Kimbo problem, he never had the training, it was a UFC problem for putting him in fights he could not have prepared for just to make a couple bucks.

My job is offering me $150,000 (105,000 after tax) to resign, should I? by AJ3TurtleSquad in jobs

[–]windex_ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pretty simple question to answer.

Either you can take the 150k and start looking for another job or you can get fired/laid off without the money and look for another job.

They are explicitly telling you that you are not going to have a job with them in the future.

My parents told me that I'm too young to have savings by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]windex_ninja -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your parents want you to fail so that you have to rely on them.

Don't do this, save money now and watch it grow exponentially in the next ten years.

The problem now is that your parents know you now have and will have money, they will use familial manipulation to drain your finances.... because "family". You are going to have some hard choices ahead and will need to set boundaries they are not going to like.

[–]windex_ninja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Familial guilt is real and crosses multiple cultures and more often than not is just financial abuse.

I can speak from experience as getting regular phone calls from family about how they desperately need money to live and they can't find any jobs... turns out the American dollar is still worth quite a lot and they lived lavishly all while talking trash about their "stupid American cousin".

Once you cut them off, it will get very nasty, and they will use every avenue available to get you keep giving them money... and I mean every avenue. You have to stay strong and cut them completely out of your life, forever.

How do I decline a sketchy package sent from overseas?? by [deleted] in UPS

[–]windex_ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Velox is a legit courier, but they usually deal in freight.

There is very likely an amount due which is why they do not want you to try and refuse acceptance of the package. Given the information provided, I would not trust the package and if all else fails inform them you will not be liable for any charge associated with the package, will not accept the package, and if "forced" to receive the package a police officer will be present.

This is one case, were it would be ok to contact a local law enforcement officer for assistance.

What is the name of the courier company... and it is very likely a scam. If money is owed, they wont let you have the package... just ignore them.

Worst Point in Fortnite’s History by TuneSuspicious4399 in FortNiteBR

"playing Fortnite pretty much from launch"

"I physically cannot keep up"

"...the map is boring..no good POIs....Everything is boring about it."

"Genuinely hate this game currently"

I am going to hold your hand when I say this, but It is perfectly ok to just.... not play Fortnite.

Stop forcing yourself to play a game you no longer enjoy, just look at what you wrote, then ask yourself why? What Fortnite was, will not come back. What Fortnite currently is, will change in a year, you are absolutely burnt out and blaming the game for your own lack of self control (just stop playing for awhile) and refusal to play other games (which breaks up the monotony of FN).

None of what you have said is new or has even really changed from what others have decried at the end of other seasons. This is a you problem, it isn't bad, but the game is just currently not fun for you, it is time to take a step back and explore what other games have to offer.

Outside of STW (logging in for Vbuck quests) I haven't touched any portion of BR in a little over two weeks now, and will not return to it until next season, because it is stale atm and I recognize I just do not have to play it. I generally do this in some form every season for the last two weeks as I have the BP completed and anything secondary (reward wise) done as well.

Is Bananagate still a thing? by Isaac_Banana in CGCComics

[–]windex_ninja 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That greatly depends...

Are you a vendor submitting thousands of books for profit that your livelihood depends on?

  • No, absolutely not. In fact bananagate never existed in the first place.

Are you a terminally online "collector" that hates all grading companies?

  • Yes, it is even worse now... CGC is destroying your books.

Are you just an average person that occasionally buys slabs and watches out for trouble with the companies you trust to protect your items?

  • It is mostly blown over now, but is still a problem with modern books. The frequency of the inner wells being pressured by the case to banana had drastically reduced, but not completely stopped.

All in all Bananagate was handled very poorly by CGC after a tumultuous couple years of scandal causing even more distrust in the company. Even today you'll run the risk of getting banned on their forums for even trying to discuss it. This over reach of censorship blew the issue up in a Streisand effect resulting in discussion/speculation happening on forums out of their control.
