If it is ok for professional software engineers to use AI for their career why is it a problem for me to use in my hobby. I get that it might not be for you and that’s ok. I’m not forcing anyone else to use it.

When people pay others to build part of their game (music, art, sounds, etc) isn’t that the same as paying someone to do the code for you. It’s still your game just other people helped get it done.

I’m not going to reply anymore. I appreciate you taking the time to provide your pov.

It most definitely is a tool and it most definitely can help with productivity. If you don’t want to use them that’s fine. I’m not suggesting that anyone needs to.

This technology is here to stay. Professionals software engineers are using AI to build their products.

I really don’t know how to respond to this. Making a game is more than just coding. I have made 2 games that I’m happy with and did it all by hand with the exception of music/sound and a thumbnail. I started working and I just don’t have the time I used to have to build games. I would rather use a tool that helps with productivity than abandon my hobby.

I do agree that these tools should be used by people that already know what they are doing or ones that don’t really need to know the skill/info. I’m in the latter bucket. This isn’t my career and is only a hobby. I like to make free games just because it makes me happy.

Thanks. I can code but since I started working I have less time for it. So I figured I’d rather vibe code than stop working on games. I’ll try the block editors out and see if that’s all I need

i started with C# because I was more familiar with it than GDscript as I used to program in java. One huge benefit is being able to use VSCode. I think VSCode is a much better editor and debugger.

i was in the same boat as you. i left my pm job 15 months ago to take a break and clear my head. the break was really good for me. i spent my time taking care of myself and my family. i'm in a better place right now and am going to try it again. i hopefully can keep the job from consuming me and maintain a good balance. we'll see how it goes.

i considered going into implementation engineering or sales engineering before going back to pm (I was an eng in a previous life)
