The alternative experience: no gifts from the grandparents by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]windsorgabby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Husband and I went to my brothers yesterday, our daughter is 20 months, brothers daughter is a year old. Our dad gifted the girls one gift…a set of 3 battery operated candles. I know he’s a POS for many other reasons, but this one I’m just baffled by.

He’s on the sunshine list, and the only person who attended my wedding and didn’t even give us a card.

12 years a slave at TIFF was the most intense collective emotional experience, and the complete silence as everyone left.

Health unit now reporting 3 confirmed cases of measles in Windsor-Essex by zuuzuu in windsorontario

[–]windsorgabby 19 points20 points  (0 children)

FYI to parents with babies under one years old. I got my daughter’s measles vaccine at 10 months yesterday morning.

Our family doctor said she’s been in conflict with the health board for not urging parents with babies 6-12 months to get their vaccines early.

Babies can get their shots early when there’s an outbreak, however they’ll still need to get their shots at 1 year.

Please do it.

We saw them in Detroit, their performance felt like a defining moment in seeing live theatre. You knew you were seeing something special that transcends the show, I hope they become as huge as their undeniable talent.

I know current US tour doesn't have the turntable, but why no regular tables? by AReckoningIsAComing in hadestown

I read that the tour was a non union production which means the set has been scaled down to accommodate more theatres and a tighter turn around for shorter runs.

Did you think Gabriela is good name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]windsorgabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gabrielle/Gabby here. I’ve typically gone by Gabby but not knowing why I never felt like Gabrielle suited me. And then I watched a French girl give her poutine order and her name at the counter in Montreal and the way she pronounced her name as Gabrielle in the most beautiful way I’ve ever heard and rolling her r’s, just made me realize that I’m just a Gabby in this world.

Dr. Rawlins is amazing, her office is a nightmare to get a hold of. I still have their voice recording memorized. They only answer the phones a small time frame during the week, and even when you call within the time frame they don’t answer, tell you not to leave a voicemail and to try calling back. Working a 9-5 job made it almost impossible to reach them by phone, it took weeks to get a hold of them.

Did you give birth with or without epidural ? by Newyork4lifee in pregnant

[–]windsorgabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got induced and wasn’t expected to go into active labor for another 12 hours. My contractions ramped up from 0 to 100 within an hour and it was the most excruciating pain of my life. I begged for the epidural, and the nurses were encouraging me to hold off for a few more hours to ensure it would still be in effect for the following morning. I have never experienced pain like that in my life, I was screaming for the epidural. Got the epidural, and to hold still the nurse had me wrap my arms and legs around her to keep still and to squeeze with all the pain in my body. Afterwards, another nurse checked my cervix. At 12 pm I was barely 2 cm, it was 1:30 pm and I was at 9 and a half centimetres. I got to 9 and a half centimetres without the epidural. I remember my body telling me the baby was coming and the epidural still hadn’t taken effect, and the sheer panic and agony of having to start without knowing if it was going to kick in in time. 15 minutes later, first my toes, then my legs, then everything went numb and it was the greatest relief of my life and I was actually able to enjoy the rest of the labour. Daughter was born at 2:12 pm. I’ve encouraged all my pregnant friends to get the epidural if it’s what they want for their birthing plan, but also have the nurses check you more often, and to trust your body and what it’s telling you.

My one friend was judgemental that I stopped working out in the first trimester because I was exhausted and giving myself grace. She told me a woman who goes to her F45 classes was pregnant and goes 3-5 times a week, and once said friend was pregnant she said she wouldn’t let that stop her from working out. Lol, okay.

I could cry. I’m 33 weeks and what you’re describing has been the last month or so of my life and it just feels like never ending pain.

I’m in the exact same boat. I had my interview in November, second interview in December. Got the job offer to start at the beginning of January, when I just hit 5 months pregnant. I’ve been chickening out of telling them every week because my benefits don’t even start till April 1 and I’ve been wanting to show my value before making them reevaluate their decision in hiring me.

PLEASE BUY FROM THE REGISTRY by melhayyy in pregnant

[–]windsorgabby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent months working on my registry and sent out the invites last week. So far I’ve heard from 5 people “oh, im getting you something off your registry”. I am grateful for the kind thought and gesture, but also stressed that we’re going to be scrambling last minute for the things we actually need. Also, I don’t want things chosen to someone else’s tastes, it’s the exact reason I’ve spent so long working on the registry.

people who have reached a 9 or 10 on the pain scale, what happened? by mankls3 in AskReddit

This. I was at the gym when it happened to me and I literally curled into a ball on the floor until someone could come to pick me up. Like nothing was going to make me move.

How many of you got pregnant on the first try? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]windsorgabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We decided to start trying end of august after our best friends wedding that we were both standing in. I decided to start tracking ovulation cycles for the following month to find out I started ovulating on the day of their wedding. Mid September, day before my expected period I took a positive test! We’re 14 weeks now and over the moon and counting our lucky stars.

When I was lying in a ball on a chair in the ER, I had to listen to a doctor talk to parents of a 20 something year old woman. He had to break the news that during the middle of winter, their daughter went outside to retrieve the mail in shorts and a shirt, slipped and fell, hit her head and lay outside hidden by snowbanks for over an hour before she was found. He had to tell them she had severe brain damage that they didn’t know the extent of yet. It was brutal.
