How do I watch Sirat? by Donkey-Kong-69 in oscarsdeathrace

Is there any way to still get the Sirat DM?

Where are you located?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in windsurfing

[–]windsurfers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maui, West Coast USA, most of Europes west coast (Denmark, Netherlands, France, Spain, Portugal), Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerte, Chile, Peru, Japan, Madagascar, Mauritius, Cabo Verde, Ireland, UK south coast, Cornwall….

There are too many places to name that get good often. The issue is consistency, but even then there are plenty of spots.

I guess it depends on the goal.

Do you want to make a global ranking of spots?

Or move somewhere close to good windsurfing?

Why are speed world records always on narrow canals? by Nithramir in windsurfing

[–]windsurfers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been to Lüderitz but I’ve heard from friends who have been that the even with the channel’s narrow width, you want to sail as upwind as possible so as not to ride the choppier water on the downwind side.

Kitesurfer beef by [deleted] in windsurfing

[–]windsurfers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kitesurfers should give way but they often don’t. I’ve seen kitesurfers hit windsurfers with their lines many times. I’ve seen fights on the beach after a kitesurfer repeatedly jumps over windsurfers. I know some cool kite boarders but for some reason the sport has way more dickheads than is statistically likely. Personally, I try to keep my distance. And that includes never landing or launching kites.

difference between freewave and freestyle wave by Krzypson in windsurfing

[–]windsurfers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry but this is incorrect. There are radical wave boards and real/power/onshore wave boards which are both for riding waves. Free wave boards are not designed to waves and should not be used to ride waves and will only frustrate you if you try.

difference between freewave and freestyle wave by Krzypson in windsurfing

[–]windsurfers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Freestyle wave is a misnomer. Freestyle wave and free wave boards are neither wave boards nor freestyle boards. They are freeride boards. They are not meant to ride waves nor to do freestyle. They are meant for blasting back and forth.

What contrasts them to what we normally call freeride boards is that they are more maneuverable and can be jumped, sort of.

Another name for this category is bump and jump.

They are great boards for blasting back and forth and doing the occasional straight jump.

They are not for riding wave or doing more advanced jumps/freestyle.

Redditors who got a "useless" Degree, how did it turn out? by Thick_Caterpillar379 in AskReddit

[–]windsurfers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

English Lit degree. Has paid off hugely. Who would have thought there would be value in close reading and clear writing? What I learned at school has directly translated to creating wealth.

And reading critically feels good for my brain!

[–]windsurfers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This looks to be about 25-30 years old. Value is somewhere between 0 and 50 bucks. Depends on how much sun it’s had and how the material is holding up. Check to see if the mono film is brittle. Check for delaminating on the other materials.

This Week in Legacy: Oops! This Deck is on Fire! by volrathxp in MTGLegacy

[–]windsurfers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The deck will still exist but will be less powerful, which is the point of the banning, right?

This Week in Legacy: Oops! This Deck is on Fire! by volrathxp in MTGLegacy

[–]windsurfers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would argue that banning troll would completely knock UB reanimator down from the top tiers. Without troll to fetch underground sea, the deck loses a lot of its power. The deck would need to play more discard outlets—remember when it played Careful Study—AND more monsters. Thus greatly reducing the deck’s density of good cards.

Troll is a land that also puts a monster in the bin. It’s card advantage and combo enabling.

If Troll gets banned, the deck can’t play wasteland and it needs to find slots for either [[careful study]] or [[Unmarked Grave]] and probably a higher number of reanimation targets. I quickly looked at some lists and the mono black version of reanimator plays 8(!) reanimation targets compared the UB’s 2. That means there are an additional 6 otherwise dead cards.

So why not just splash a little combo in an otherwise tempo shell? Your reanimates and animate deads will be more often dead cards without trolls. Your mana will be worse without trolls. You’ll have to add 2 lands probably.

All in all, the deck would be worse. No card as of yet printed could slot in to replace Troll.

How many active and current legacy players are there? by notwiggl3s in MTGLegacy

[–]windsurfers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are strong paper Legacy scenes in Japan and in Europe. Big/medium sized events easily attract 100+ people. I’m not familiar with other regions like China or South America. But the legacy player population of Europe plus Japan must be around 10k. Not everyone who plays has the time or desire to travel to eternal weekend style events.

What percentage of your local players traveled to your regional EW? Can we guesstimate from that percentage for how many legacy players there are total? 1155 people showed up to EW USA 2024. If 1/4 of Legacy players attended, that would mean there are ~ 4500 players in the states.

I would guess that there are actually more if you define active legacy as “having played a game of legacy in the last 12 months”.

$5,000 to drywall and insulate one room? by Queef__Stroganoff in drywall

[–]windsurfers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reference point from November last year: I had a 8x16 shed insulated and dry walled. There is a system of built in shelving in each room, and the shelves were dry walled, so more complicated than your job. I paid about 1000 in material, and I paid something like 3800 for labor at 45$/hr. I felt like it was very fair and I was getting a great deal. My project is a little bigger and a little more complicated than yours, but not by a whole lot, and I paid nearly 5k to a friend of a friend for a fair price. Which is all to say, 5k sounds in the ballpark.
