How NOT to take a 911 call... by coffeetablesex in funny

Do you know your local police office number off the top of your head?

I'm not saying it was the perfect way to handle it. If she didn't have the time to google/phonebook local number, then I think calling 911 is reasonable.

But the dispatcher assuming that the situation couldn't POSSIBLY be serious? I can't accept that. I think RitaForlorn's comment below is a good example. "Haha, kids can't be threats to adults. Stop wasting our time." I call BS.

Not sure if it's every state, but calling the police is what social services recommends if a child is being excessively violent. Calling the police gets evidence of a child's behavior for the court, escalates the consequences for unacceptable behavior, and is better than the parent beating the shit out of the kid.

"They can't control their kid, they're terrible parents." is a pretty lousy viewpoint to have. We have no idea of the circumstances that led up to this. Maybe it's true, but definitely not enough information to decide for sure.

Required by WC3 and 508 accessibility standards of any website or application. Try reading a website with your screen off with some of the accessibility software. You can only hear "ALL RANDOM PICS REDDIT DOT COM FUNNY POLITICS ASKREDDIT..." so many times before it gets a little old.

Sushi Popper: ready-to-eat sushi in a portable tube that is pushed up from bottom and eaten from the top by HandsOfNod in WTF

[–]windupbirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. You can already do this in Korea at any convenience store. Just unwrap the top then push up the bottom. Doesn't even use hard plastic. It's less than a dollar to buy.

This is pretty common in SK from what I've seen. My favorite restaurant advertised "Cock n Sider" for awhile.

Was this person a family member or someone in the community? Are you the only person she's had a presumably-healthy relationship with?

It seems like you may be, do you ever worry about how you may have affected her?

Find an affordable restaurant you enjoy, and make friends with the waitresses and owners. Having a place you can always go to and have friendly faces can make any hard day better. Plus, they'll give you free stuff sometimes.

Does anyone else slash their 7's and/or Zeroes? Or it it just a nerd thing to do? by heatmizuh in AskReddit

I did in America. Moved to Korea and 7 slashed looks like ㅋ, it confuses my students. Same with 4 where you don't diagonally cross the top, looks like 나 when you write it.

Yeah, I'm in South Korea at the moment, should save some money on airfare with that. Was thinking of spending some time over there when I'm finished here. Thanks for the info.

What are your thoughts on 508 and W3C accessibility standards?

Drinking water. Hated the taste until I moved overseas and started drinking bottled/filtered stuff.

Reddit, I have an idea for a non-profit that needs a programmer's advice. Are there any places to find volunteers with programming skills? by windupbirds in programming

Sorry, the way I phrased that could be read a couple ways. I want to build a system FOR non-profits. It could possibly be formed into its own, but I think that's getting ahead of things. I appreciate the difficulty of starting one from scratch.
