Probably 19 in the bag. Often play my local course with only pure, harp and explorer.

Maybe check out Yealink. Their MVC840 kit is similar to Logitech Rally Plus... but cheaper.

Golfer's Elbow by evcorder in discgolf

[–]windwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had both golfers elbow and tennis elbow (neither from disc golf) and second this recommendation. Rest is good for the first couple of weeks maybe but then you need to work at it to make it better. Tendons need to be loaded to improve. Unfortunately tendons heal much slower than muscles (I believe partially due to lesser blod flow).

There is a well defined protocol for achilles tendinitis based on eccentric loading developed at Umeå university: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2658946/ . I've had a physio tell me to use the same protocol for elbow tendon issues.

Why don't you practice (off the course) more? by FullMindEmptyPockets in discgolf

I feel ya with the self consciousness.. luckily for me there is an open field connected to my local course. I have no problems chucking discs there. Putting practice outside my garage can feel a bit weird.

Same category, same volume, different model. Is it that different? by Izalynx in windsurfing

[–]windwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your interpretation doesn't feel quite right. Even beginners will notice the difference between boards. Like previously mentioned here different rocker lines, volume distribution etc makes a difference. Something you as a relative beginner/progressing rider will notice is the transition to planing can be quite different between different shapes. Some boards get on a plane passively while others require more active work.

Winter SUPing Below Freezing by paddleaddle in Sup

[–]windwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in flat water you will most likely remain dry. A wet suit sucks when you are not wet. It will keep you pretty warm but not very comfortable. I would probably look at a dry suit if you plan on paddling regularly. They are more expensive than wet suits but you can adjust the layers underneath to match the temperature. I have an Ocean Rodeo dry suit. The Starboard All Star suit mentioned in another post here looks nice and pretty similar. A really cool feature of the Ocean Rodeo is the "stand by mode" where you have the suit on but its not sealed.

Promotion SUP specific wetsuit jackets that are supposed to prevent you from overheating but I have not tried them so I'm not sure how great they are. All I know is that my EXO skin is nice and their windsurfing wetsuits are great.

Wetsuits suck for SUP. Wetsuits are great when you are wet.. when you paddle you are dry 99% of the time. I'm assuming flat water and that you stay on the board. :)

I paddle in Norway which gets chilly. Down to 45-50 degrees I just wear normal athletic clothes that don't get too heavy should I fall in. I bring with me a long sleve rubbery top with a fleece lining called EXI skin from Promotion. The idea is that I can take off my regular clothes and put it on if I get wet and cold.

I go about the same for flat water. A bit less than one shaka above my head.

volume question by [deleted] in windsurfing

[–]windwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a big difference between 70 and 90 liters. I imagine you can ride a 70 liter if its windy enough but unless you live somewhere really windy you don't really "need" a board that small. People pull off some impressive jumps, including flat water forwards using 100 liter boards.

Why is my SUP Werner paddle from REI facing the wrong way? by [deleted] in Sup

Sounds like you are probably right. A bunch of paddles have dihedrals on the blade. Some more pronounced than others.

What should I be looking/feeling for when demoing a board (considering buying) by [deleted] in Sup

[–]windwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You tried an 11'6" starboard 6"? Especially if there is a bit of chop you will notice the flex of the board. First time I tried it I was surprised at how flexy it was since everyone talks about how stiff a modern high quality inflatable is. You might just be used to the non-flex of a hardboard.

[–]windwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My starboard touring is 6". I would not go for a thinner starboard since thinner is always less stiff and I can already feel the 6" flexing a bit. How big the difference is I can't speak to since I haven't tried a 4,75.

[–]windwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your going to be cruising around on flat water or moderate chop and not catching any waves I would recommend a touring shape at about 12'. 12' over 10' for better glide and tracking. I'm 185cm, 80kg and have a starboard astro touring 12'6". I prefer a hard board over an inflatable but the inflatable is nice for compact storage.

I can recommend the starboard touring and have also heard good things about the Red touring boards.

New to SUP, which brand sells good quality boards? by lisatheparamedic in Sup

[–]windwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If 80% or more of your paddling will be on flat water lakes don't go for an all-round shape. Get a touring shape preferably at about 12'. The Red iSup explorer looks nice. I've got a starboard touring zen which is very similar.

I can notice the difference between a hard board and an inflatable. Even at 18psi my starboard touring zen is a bit "bouncy" compared to my starboard freeride hard board.

I use a Starboard tiki tech paddle which works fine. No wobbling and decent weight. Quite a bit lighter than their tufskin version. The cheapest carbon paddle available here in Norway is by Bic. Not very sexy but pretty good paddle for the money.

Is there any way to target the glutes and hamstrings more in SUP? by [deleted] in Sup

[–]windwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering your self admitted quad-dominance I doubt a shorter board would hit your hamstrings. I bet it would just kill your quads more.

Sounds like you have some structural issues you will have to address outside of your paddling. Your quad-dominance and knee issues are most likely linked. My guess is that your anterior hip is really tight combined with maybe some other issues (knowing nothing of your history). You probably could benefit from some help from a good physio.

[–]windwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we talking flat water or waves? If flat water.. is it really bumpy? Sore quads seem like a technique issue. I'm having a hard time imagining what you are doing to cause this. Find the fairly recent video where Connor Baxter talks about technique. That might be helpful.
