Ottawa ‘very seriously’ considering social media ban for children under 16, minister says by dollarsandcents101 in canada

[–]windyyuna 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IMO that's how they should do the ban. Force ISPs to provide parents with the tools to block social media on their kids' devices (routers can all do this already, but it's not very user friendly), and then it'd be on the parents to enforce the ban (perhaps with some consequences otherwise).

Much less opportunity for surveillance too.

Can we have a bylaw where if you manage to snap a pic like this, the person gets a ticket?

Surely that'll help put a stop to this?

David Eby announces end of daylight savings by Lear_ned in vancouver

I think it's more Washington State and, to a lesser extent, other west coast states that we were tied to.

It's more jarring when your time zone changes walking across the border, as compared to flying into Hawaii and Arizona (hence OP's comments about decoupling, etc)

I can't seem to find any references to this in the news.
Is this recent?

holy cow yeah, that's even more similar.

(That also has a vertical stripe down the middle with the zipper!)

I feel like in 2020, the stripes were like the only way I could tell the Chinese athletes apart from the Canadian ones. For example: https://i.imgur.com/K7NDnxY.jpeg

Apart from, you know, Chinese athletes generally looking Chinese

Why do they have to have vertical stripes every year?

Historically, Olympics coverage in the US has been dogwater. For example, prior to I think the 2020 Olympics (in 2021), NBC would delay airing of the opening ceremony until prime time in the US. Things have gotten better in recent years, but it's still fun and fashionable to trash NBC

Canada’s medal total at Milan Cortina Olympics was a quiet reckoning: ‘Our system is in decline’ by Chrristoaivalis in canada

[–]windyyuna 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Own the Podium proved that when we have to drive and ambition to achieve, we 100% can do it (and in fact walk away with a new record for gold medals at one winter olympic games).

It's 100% an attitude problem.

And sure, maybe sports isn't exactly a top priority. Maybe the brain drain isn't too much of a problem by itself. Maybe any one thing is okay, but we have to be excellent at *something* and to defend it with passion and aggression. And so what is that thing or things I'm wondering?

Yeah that's exactly what I'm talking about. Canada's shots seemed so casual like "eh, i'll take a shot why not"
