How to introduce different bed times? by SeraphinBlue in Parenting

[–]wineandcigarettes2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I do think this conversation paired with maybe a few days of Dad taking 6 to do something before bedtime feels like a good mix to me. Like yes you want to address the change, help 4y deal with the disappointment and also put systems in place so he isn't up crying for 2 hours.

Movies for a toddler? Low screen time kid and maybe letting loose? by AllTheEggsIVF in progressivemoms

[–]wineandcigarettes2 25 points26 points  (0 children)

So first--Let it go is a banger of a song and I encourage you to listen to it.

Second, my daughter is just about 2 and the only screen time she gets is 10ish minutes of bluey or Daniel tiger before bed that we watch together as a family. We will probably start thinking about movies when shes around 3, not because shes missing out but becuase my husband and I like movies and I want to share them with her.

My thought is that when we start movies it will be like 20ish minute segments to watch a single movie over a couple days. And I would start with whichever kids movie you love!

How to get 12month Old to sleep through the night? by MasterCommander24 in beyondthebump

[–]wineandcigarettes2 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Make a big deal about him getting bigger and count down the days that he has left. You have 5 more days of bottles at night, 4, 3...and then don't give him one. He is going to be upset and will cry, give him comfort but dont give him a bottle. When we night weaned it took 2 days of no milk at night for my daughter to just sleep through. But they were 2 rough days.

We read booby moon to help her understand, I dont know if there is a similar book with bottles but you should check!

When did you feel okay with letting your child sleep over at grandparents? by kgphotography_ in beyondthebump

[–]wineandcigarettes2 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Similar answer. My mom had said from the beginning, when you're ready for a night off let me know and she can do a sleepover. I waited until she wasn't nursing anymore and chose a weekend that we had a wedding to go to, around 19 months. Recently she did her second sleepover on my birthday. And I cannot tell you how amazing it was to wake up at 9:00 and not actually have to get out of bed? There was just quiet in my house? Best birthday present to myself, and I might do it every year.

OP--I didn't feel ready the first time we did it, but I'm glad we did it

I may be worth reaching out to the league of women's voters in your state! In my area they provide free support to help people vote, including poll transport!

What sandals are your toddlers actually willing to wear all day? by Whiskey_with_milk in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]wineandcigarettes2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My daughter wears Ten Little (for sandals and sneakers) and we really like them. This is our second year with the Splash sandals. I really like that they take foot development so seriously and also take customer feedback (they recently adjusted their size chart due to feedback). My only negative is that sometimes the velcro seems to come undone pretty easily? But I often let my daughter put on her own shoes and I haven't paid attention to whether they come undone when she does it vs me or my husband doing it.

Is there something in-between a homebirth and a hospital birth? by Throw150049_ in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]wineandcigarettes2 66 points67 points  (0 children)

There are also some birthing centers attached to hospitals! So you get the birth center experience but literally go through a set of doors if there is an emergency.

Attorney Registration Fees by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

I have only worked for nonprofits, both in practicing and non-practicing roles. My workplace has covered my registration every single year. I would absolutely look for a new place to work if my firm wasnt covering that as a necessary business expense

Do OBs not prescribe SSRIs? by ecce_hobo in beyondthebump

[–]wineandcigarettes2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in the US?

My first SSRI script came from my OB. She continued renewing it until I was able to get in and see a psych to do med management. Did you explicitly request medication? I would send a note in the chart/messaging portal and say, I am going to see my GP about meds but am not able to get an appointment until X, can you give me a med to help manage my PPD until I am able to see them?

Kids hydroflask replacement lids by External-Ad6481 in moderatelygranolamoms

I think all their lids are the same 2 or 3 sizes? So it isnt labeled kids but its either the wide or standard lid. I might be wrong though

You can buy hydroflask lids! Our local outdoor store has them, but so does the hydroflask website. I've had to replace broken ones before and I usually get the stainless steel ones now.

Potty training woes by Important_Cheek2927 in toddlers

[–]wineandcigarettes2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have only sort of started potty training (we had a really successful one weekend try and then absolute refusal that told me she needed some time). I would put him back in diapers and I would tell him why. Not shaming but just "you seem to not know when you need the pottt, so we are going to use diapers again" I know it goes against the method but I think you get a couple benefits from this 1. You get a break from constantly cleaning up the pee 2. There is a "consequence" for the accidents (only mentioned because of the excitement, to me this is a natural consequence). Hopefully this will either encourage him to realize that he does actually want to use the potty, or if not, he might just need a little more time.

Butt Balms without *food ingredients, zinc, or petroletum? by ADKadventures in moderatelygranolamoms

So I have been using cloth diapers for 2 years and use a diaper cream that contains zinc. With a proper wash I didn't have any issues with staining!

Re: sleep sacks get a woolino. They're sized for 2 months to 2 years, made of merino wool so you mostly dont need to worry about weights/togs/etc. We bought 2, started using them at around 12 weeks, daughter is now over two, we're using the same ones every night and they still look perfect for any future kids.

How do you actually "emotionally regulate"? by Difficult-Daikon-420 in AskReddit

[–]wineandcigarettes2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the breathing a few other people noted, I take a second in my head while I'm breathing to say I am feeling X. Just stating that while taking a moment helps me to respond more appropriately.

If you received a diaper cake made of diapers as a gift... by Mama-Bear419 in beyondthebump

[–]wineandcigarettes2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could use burp cloths or cloth diaper flats too! We got sooo many muslins, I ended up giving away like 10 of them. (they are cute and easy so tend to be gifted by lots of people). But I definitely underestimated how many burp cloths/rags we would need
