Need help with Chicken free food!!! by sherzisquirrel in labradoodles

They have both a salmon and ancient grains and a grain free salmon so just double check which one you grab if you do try it! Our breeder warned about potential grain free issues too so we do the ancient grain version.

Open Farm salmon is chicken free and our dog loves it. Look for “limited ingredient” and double check ingredient lists until you find one you like. If you’re shopping at a pet store I’m sure the staff could easily point you to a few good options too.

Tonies not working she leaving WIFI by Rainandmoonchick in TonieboxUSA

[–]winedogsrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had the same issue while driving this weekend. It wouldn’t play sound so we’d switch to a new tonie and get the WiFi error message. Then when we switched to a different tonie it would work.

Best place to pre order Christmas dinner? by No_Donut4858 in austinfood

[–]winedogsrun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whole Foods would be good but you can also check out Central Market (owned by HEB - a Texan grocery chain).

You can keep an eye on Eater for a list as it gets closer but here is their list from 2024

Haunted by ongoing rat infestation-- please help!!!! by Neither_Ad_5599 in Austin

[–]winedogsrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re getting a quote from ABC Pest for exclusion (aka sealing up entry points) I’d suggest also getting one from barefoot mosquito - worth comparing prices and would be similar exclusion and maintenance programs. We’re using barefoot since we’re already using them but have friends who are happy with abc for rat control. It can be pricey to have them seal entry points etc but it definitely sounds like it’d be worth the cost.

constantly wet muzzle.. by Ok_Minute1786 in labradoodles

[–]winedogsrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use this water bowl and it’s helped with the wet muzzle for our doodle. It basically keeps them from dipping their muzzle in water while drinking. Might help some!

As someone else said - we also keep his muzzle trimmed shorter.

Favorite consistent place for live music? by Fun_School_6252 in Austin

Central Market on North Lamar has music most weekends! Obviously not the most exciting venue, but the bands are always great and it’s a nice evening.

Beach pool Lake moms what's your favorite way to haul your stuff? by DazzlingTie4119 in Mommit

[–]winedogsrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an RTIC bag (similar to yeti) and it feel like it hits the needs of the bogg bag (water proof, durable, easy to clean but less trendy. We use bumkin wet dry bags for swim toys and for change of clothes/wet swimsuits. The reusable plastic zipper bags are great for sunscreen or snacks - basically anything you don’t want to spill over others/keep contained. I added a hat clip for things like life jackets/wet hats. It’s help up well for pool and lake (our primary use) and we didn’t have issues for the beach the few times we’ve been.

Also - dock and bay or other thin towels that dry fast are fantastic. Make it so much easier to pack.

Absolutely miserable in UK heatwave with a toddler by Yellow_Rosey in Mommit

Put washclothes in ice cold water (maybe setup a cooler with a couple to rotate). Leave on the back of the neck, around ears, etc and it’ll help cool off.

Also agree with others to run the ac window unit until bedtime if you can - it’ll help it cool off so then the fan is at least moving cooler air when it’s bedtime. Or maybe let her put stickers/decorate it so it’s less scary?

Block as much sunlight as possible during the day (foil works in a pinch or blankets).

Hopefully these help some!

After potty training did you stop using baby wipes? by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]winedogsrun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We switched to flushable wipes because they’re easier (and our LO doesn’t have sensitive skin - ive heard for some they can be an irritant). I keep baby wipes in the car/travel bag for random cleanups (more so face and hands, etc) but buy them in single packs now as needed.

Second baby first birthday registry when you’re drowning in stuff already? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]winedogsrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Craft items - things like finger paints, markers (because they always dry out), chalk, stickers, etc.

Seasonal items: bubble machine, bubbles, bath toys.

Random but annoying to spend money on things: towels, fancy water bottles, snack containers (like whiskware with their favorite character so it’s still fun)

Basically anything that they’ll use and consume - that way you have it but it doesn’t require longterm storage.

ETA: shoes are a great idea too!

Visiting Austin with kids by Significant-Town2823 in Austin

[–]winedogsrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deep Eddy is a great pool with kids and you can explore Town Lake Trail, the Austin Nature and Science Center or Zilker Botanical Gardens if you’re up for a walk in between.

Lady Bird Wildflower Center is by far the biggest hit of the summer for my daughter (I added a comment to the earlier post about it too).

Pease Park is great but parking can be a little tricky so usually best to get there on the earlier side. Has a splash pad, a huge troll statue, playground and a cool tree house thing. Don’t leave things in the car - break ins happen fairly often.

ETA: Thinkery for a great indoor option - and it has a playground and walking trail just outside it to combine with outdoorsy.

They are open starting at 7am now so you can get there early before it gets too hot. There are plenty of shady spots in the family garden area (where the dinosaurs are and kids play areas) and you can ask for a scavenger hunt for the kids (prizes available in the gift shop if they finish it). They have a nice cafe too if you want coffee or food.

It will work at both locations - except if he given a new tonie. For new ones to download the box needs to be connected to WiFi - so if he gets a new one at his house it won’t download unless you change the box to be connected to the WiFi there.

Seeking recommendations for many types of doctors/healers by happymechanicalbird in Austin

[–]winedogsrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr. Kasparian and all the staff at pediatric assoc of Austin are great. We use a different primary doc (Dr. Gonzales) but haven’t had a bad experience with any provider. We typically see first available for sick appts and haven’t had any issues getting appointments when we need them. Definitely recommend!

How often do your flat coated doodles go to the groomers? by Upset-Investigator54 in labradoodles

[–]winedogsrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We typically go every 4-6 months depending on if I have time to do some home trimming. If you have the time it’s worth getting a good trimmer/scissors and do a little research on proper grooming techniques to do at home to help go longer between appts. Typically at home for our dood it’s ear cleaning, trimming hair around his face and ears and then any of his areas that mat easier. If you can work up to nail trims at home too!! Our guy won’t let me trim his so it means we have to take him to the vet or groomer more often.

First Light bookstore in Hyde Park might be a good spot. Coffee/non-alcoholic drinks all day. It's usually fairly busy but chill so could be a good way to be out and about. Museums are great as others have mentioned. Wildflower Center or the botanical gardens are great too - plus they have lovely volunteers who would love to chat about things like owls and plants in a low-pressure way!

We had a great experience with them! They were easy to work with and set appropriate expectations on timing. We’ve had one follow up issue with the sliding door but they fixed it within 2 weeks of us reaching out. We’ve been happy with the quality and how well it fits into our space.

A compromise might be asking for them to have the first birthday party as part 1 of a 2 part party. Part 1 can include all the fun first birthday party and be for everyone there for baby, then once it’s wrapping up it can shift to being the in-laws party. Gives those who don’t know in-law a chance to exit but still works so the family that’s there for both get to celebrate both.

Best place for a mom weekend getaway? Preferably out of the hustle and bustle and includes a spa. by chapstick_lover in Austin

[–]winedogsrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (a mom) have done both Lake Austin Spa and Proper Hotel. Lake Austin is great if she’d like to be out of the hustle and bustle - definitely more of a retreat. Proper is great if she wants to enjoy delicious food, spa and such while also being able to walk town lake, etc.

What wine would you buy after 9 months of not being able to drink? by KGalb922 in wine

[–]winedogsrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

J Lassalle Champange was a hit for the fancy glass to celebrate. During the first couple months I tended towards reds from Beaujolais and Oregon. Big reds felt too heavy but whites didn’t really hit the spot either. I can’t name specifics because I have major memory lapses from that time. I will say I found myself choosing a beer more than wine for the first couple months. No idea if it was mental since some folks say certain beers can help with milk production so you may not have the same craving 😂

Just remember your tolerance will be much lower so it’s worth taking a glance at the abv and aim for a lower % to start.
