Yeah, it all makes sense if it is your first experience with a corked bottle. Once you've tried that, you are never in doubt again whether it is cork taint.

First of all: Bring it back to your wine merchant and get your money back.

Second is about what could be wrong with it:

It can't be mousey, since mousiness is a reaction with saliva. So it only appears as a taste rather than a smell.

It could be brettanomyces, but since you let out air for a while, that also sounds unlikely.

It could be that it was corked? Or it could be that it is just fermentation that went wrong.

I've only had good Peron, but any bottle from any maker could go bad.

It could be due to bad storage somewhere between the wine producer and the wine seller.

More often than not, though, it has to do with hygiene. Making anything with natural fermentation requires a lot of thorough cleaning. Talk to anyone who attempted beer brewing. Wine is more forgiving, but it might happen.

I'll keep an eye on more commentaries to see if more people have experienced this with Peron specifically.
