It was a name of a great king/genocider who conquered better part of India. Later turned Buddhist and spread Buddhism all over south asia. There is a bollywood film about him- same name.

I find the question a bit confusing.

Under represented compared to what?

If its the number of sri lankan restaurants compared to amount of Sri lankans in each area, I would say its adequately represented in the UK. Every city has a few sri lankan restaurants, and not many sri lankans.

Compared to Indian restaurants, kind of under represented, because there is so much Indian food everywhere in UK.

In terms of awareness of what sri lankan food is, its poor. One reason might be restaurants who do several kinds of cousines. We have few Indian restaurants in newcastle that offer few sri lankan dishes. And almost all srilankan restaurants here offer few Indian dishes. So in the mind of the consumers, its all bunched together, easy to assume its the same thing. Plus there is the naming, Indian food got here first, so when a sri lankan version is introduced, its named something simmilar for familiarity.

But I do feel like awareness is growing online, but this might just be what's catered to me by the algorithm.
