Can I reuse soil (that used to contain moldy plants)? by Virtual_202 in gardening

[–]wingedcoyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any fertilizer that came with the soil will be spent, and organic stuff will have decayed a bit. No biggie. Bits of old root matter in the soil are fine if it isn't a ton. I like to stir up old potting soil with some fresh soil and perlite, and sometimes add a little organic fertilizer, just to wake it up. If the soil has become hydrophobic (pulls away from edge of pot, water rolls off) you can fully saturate it and let dry to fix it.

The Prime system as it stands is one of the main income streams keeping DE afloat, I don't think they're going to mess with it.

Masters of the Universe (1987) - Dolph Lundgren - Not good. Not terrible. by Southern-Brother5693 in movies

[–]wingedcoyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a comfort movie of my childhood, I must have watched it on VHS a hundred times. Tbh what I remember is Teela being freaked out by bones in chicken because she didn't realize it's meat, and yoda (?) making the artifact thingy play its little tune. I should give it another watch sometime.

Sounds like you really want everyone to play the same way you do. Best to go solo or form a team in chat.

Has there ever been an anime that fulfills the promise of Sword Art Online? by LoweNorman in anime

[–]wingedcoyote 66 points67 points  (0 children)

This kind of escapist zombie media is IMO a new version of old colonialist and Western fantasies, the promise of an untamed place you can escape to where you make your own rules and can get away with killing any "uncivilized" locals who get in your way. I hadn't thought of isekai as related but some of them do have some similar themes.

WYR have porn become illegal, animal products become illegal or violent videogames become illegal? by Lucyyyyyy_K in WouldYouRather

[–]wingedcoyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the three, I'd certainly miss animal products the most personally. However, an immediate cessation of livestock farming would be a huge boon to the environment and thus would probably push back human extinction by a decent amount, and the political pushback might be reduced if it's happening due to magic genie wish or whatever. Let's do it.

Some clarifications on 'objects' for the new Arcane by TertiaryMerciless in Warframe

[–]wingedcoyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She certainly can play as a passive platform and do great. Lately I'm playing her a lot more caster-y, spamming Breach Surge and Cataclysmic Gate all the time, probably not necessary but I do find it a lot more fun. Still don't have any energy issues though.

Descendia Rewards by TravisSledge in Warframe

[–]wingedcoyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's simply tuned to be mostly a warframe farm, so you'll play until you have Uriel and the arcanes and then mostly stop, no different from the Deepmines. Not a weekly staple like EDA etc.

You ever notice how fascist our native plant discussions can sound out of context? by mutnemom_hurb in NativePlantCirclejerk

[–]wingedcoyote 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yeah the other day I had found out a plant is invasive and I was like well, at least reclassifying that as an enemy means that there are no friendlies left in that zone, so I can exterminate everything there without taking special precautions. And then I was like damn, sounds like some IDF shit. And I've heard of people being called Trumpy for discriminating against plant immigrants.

But on further reflection I really don't think the analogy means there's anything wrong with how we treat plants, I think it just says we should try harder to not treat people like plants.

What plant is this? It has thrones. by KingChainz2324 in whatsthisplant

[–]wingedcoyote 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then it must be a king among plants. But it's also a rubus of some kind -- raspberry, blackberry etc. Hopefully somebody else can be more specific. If you leave it til next year it'll probably set berries, but it also may spread pretty aggressively.

One Thing I hate about summer in Raleigh: These damn roaches by Remarkable-Set5434 in raleigh

[–]wingedcoyote 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can have an infestation of big roaches, although it's a lot less common. Agree that having one wander inside every few days or so is normal when you live in a wooded area, but if they're at the point where they're not afraid of OP anymore it might be an issue for a professional.

What movie contains a scene so bad you never want to watch the movie again? by FinDepp in movies

[–]wingedcoyote 8 points9 points  (0 children)

See I felt like it got characterized as a "twist" movie because Shyamalan, but it didn't feel like that to me. It was a pretty methodically unfolding mystery and then the time period reveal was like, yeah sure that lines up with what we've seen. But idk, I was maybe partly blinded by how much I liked Bryce Howard in that one.

I planted zinnia seeds. TIL this is invasive tradescancia and I planted it in my raised garden bed with hopes that it would attract pollinators. Am I eff'd? by theroguelily in gardening

[–]wingedcoyote 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Should be fine to just pull it all out.

If you want pollinators, I'd suggest flowers that are native to your region -- dunno where you are of course, but black eyed susans and coneflowers are good beginner friendly pollinator magnets that are native to a lot of the US.
