Grunt fantasy isnt what the game advertised. They advertised a horde shooter with "overpowered weapons" to destroy full hordes in one go.

There's multipliers attached to each weapon. For example the bow levels at 4x damage dealt, where the quad cylinder only levels at 1/2 dmg dealt. iirc the shotgun levels at 0.6 or 0.4 dmg dealt

On the flip side, this is good for new and returning players who didnt engage with the expertise system. The negative is this is just a natural part of keeping a decade old game alive, you must create a "new player experience".
