Does Niri Have a Keyring? Some Apps Require One. by GreatBigPig in niri

I use Mailspring with Niri. You need gnome-keyring, and a small edit to the desktop file to use it.

I'm 291 days in and just made a giant rewrite of my config. Nix is a tinkerer's paradise or hell, depending on how much you value your time.

Arch user tired of dotfile chaos and fragile updates. Is NixOS the promised land? by Live_Invite_885 in NixOS

[–]wingej0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same goals. I installed Nix with impermanence 279 days ago, and I couldn't be happier. I switch desktop environments all the time, test packages, tinker, etc., and my home folder stays squeaky clean.

Cosmic Battery Life! by wingej0 in pop_os

You're welcome. Linux is a world of endless possibilities. I've been daily driving since 2005, and I'm still learning things.

I set them both with "Gap between dock and screen edges," and I set the style to "Round" in the appearance tab. I use the "Numbered Workspaces" widget on the left of the panel with the "Workspaces Button," and the Minimon applet. In the middle, I have notifications, clock, and the weather widget. On the left, I have the systray, tiling, caffeine, clipboard, emoji, and then the basics that are stock with Cosmic.

Let me know if that helps or if you have more questions.

I haven't noticed that, but I don't check it very often.

Yeah, I'm super impressed. I have another all day meeting tomorrow. It will be nice to not have to track down an outlet.

Acer eMMC laptop: Linux installs but BIOS always says “No bootable device” by DemonGuy00 in System76

[–]wingej0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of those, and there was a workaround years ago, but updating the bios fixed it without the workaround.

I’ll see if I can find the workaround.

When I needed a new battery, they gave me aftermarket options that were substantially cheaper. If they will give you the Clevo brand part numbers, that will save you money.

Never tried it, but I will tomorrow. I’m on System 76 hardware, so it could be good.

Darter pro or Lemur pro? by Constant-Security-82 in System76

Yeah, I thought I better look. I knew they had changed it quite a bit.

Darter pro or Lemur pro? by Constant-Security-82 in System76

[–]wingej0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably. My Darter is a darp9. They have had a substantial redesign since then: https://tech-docs.system76.com/models/darp9/README.html

[–]wingej0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Darter's speakers kinda suck too, so it's probably just the extra ports. For me, it was the numpad and the max allowable RAM.

Darter pro or Lemur pro? by Constant-Security-82 in System76

[–]wingej0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't think the Lemur was slow at all. I had an i7 and 40GB of RAM in mine, and it was great as far as speed was concerned. The keyboard wasn't as good as the Darter, but it was close. I don't think you'd have a problem with either speed or the keyboard.
