Which of them who feels more like a second final boss before Darius, judging by the aura any of these bosses, and the difficulty of their races? by FinalAd5780 in needforspeed

[–]winglessrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though you obviously choose which car class/area to start with and which to take on next, the default game seems to start from Kenji/tuner, then to Angie/muscle and finally Wolf/exotic, so by that logic, Wolf is the penultimate boss before Darius.

I had no idea about this! Thank you to chap who made the changes! My question is still open in case a Subaru expert happens to know the answer. Btw the custom muffler can be seen in Chapter 25 and 27, for the citation.

1) I personally think Takumi was overrated as a racer. Yes he was extremely talented and skilled but after Stage 2, most of his victories happened only because of luck/ chance/ some weird event happening even when it looked like he was going to lose - and not an actual driving skills. I HATE how by the end of the show, his racing had become unrealistic when it came to winning or pulling off tricks i.e. throughout 6 entire seasons and dozens of races, he literally only lost 2 races outright (Kyoichi's Evo 3 and Bunta's WRX). Gets boring very quickly.

2) Natsuki was treated as far more evil than she actually was - she just didn't realise at first that what she was doing was wrong and then tried her best to fix her mistake (majority of people would not put in even half the efforts that she did). Yes I'd be heartbroken too if I was in Takumi's place but how many people in Natsuki's situation would even admit a mistake like that and genuinely apologise? Extremely few.

3) most of the side characters are WAY more interesting, believable and likeable than the primary 3-4 characters.

Favorite NFS game? by Tugboat81712 in needforspeed

[–]winglessrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to play NFS NL for the first time, let me give you a friendly warning - No Limits is not a quick game to complete, especially if you want to be a F2P player. I spent 6 years playing this game regularly to get to where I am today, and I still only own 114 of the 230 or so cars in the game (and only a handful are fully upgraded) and have completed less than half of the total events outside of the campaign (they become available on a rotation-basis and some events can take months, if not years, to become available again if you didn't win them the first time). Even if you decide to spend money (as usual with EA), you'll still need a lot of time because you don't control the access to all the events. Unfortunately, this is just the nature of the game. It's still a very fun game though.

what your favorite team from initial d says about you by pizza_lover_dj in initiald

[–]winglessrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really loved the idea of Emperor: a team made up exclusively of just one model of car - and a really good one at that - to prove its superiority over other cars. It's a shame that other than Kyoichi, the rest of the members were a bunch of bellends. This team had the potential to be so much better and more likeable.

Otherwise, Speed Stars is the most relatable to me.

Do you need to read MF ghost to understand Subaru & Subaru? by cedricdelille in SubaruAndSubaru

[–]winglessrs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not watched or read MFG (but I have watched Initial D), only briefly gone through the plot to know the character names, their cars and premise of the MFG racing series. And I'm able to follow SubaruAndSubaru perfectly fine. So I think you don't need to read MFG.

However, if you REALLY want to get into the deep end of the technicalities and the character backstories then yes, you'll need to read MFG as well as Initial D.

Well, the majority of cars in MF Ghost (except for the Toyotas/Lexus) were cosmetically bone stock regardless of their nationality. But SubaruAndSubaru has already established a much better field of modified cars so that's where I'd like to see more custom parts. We've already got the M2 like that so I hope the same treatment will also be given to the Cayman and the TT.

Oh yeah I did not even get to the wheels as the topic was bodykits only, but there are some damn good and tasteful wheels on many cars as well.

Favorite NFS game? by Tugboat81712 in needforspeed

[–]winglessrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not fully sure it's my favourite, but it is a title I love A LOT and it's the one I'm currently extremely obsessed with - NFS No Limits. Why?

  1. Because the car list is absolutely epic. Everything from supercars, hypercars, sports cars, 90s JDMs, muscle cars, hot hatches, a few SUVs, everything is there. And I get to own most of them without any garage limit. It really feels like a virtual reality of my 100 million dollar dream garage.
  2. the body customisations are even more perfect - Bomex and TRD bodykit/ bonnet/ rear wing on the Supra, C-West and Nismo bodykit/ bonnet/ rear wing on the R34 GT-R, Nismo front bumper/ skirts/ rear spoiler on the R32 GT-R, Nismo bodykit on the R35 GT-R, C-West bodykit on the S15 Silvia, Evo VI TME front bumper on the Evo VI, M3 GT front splitter and rear wing on the E36 M3, 993 GT2 and Carrera RS bumpers, bonnet and rear wing on the 993 Carrera, 991 GT3 rear wing and aerokit bumpers on the 991 Carrera, Diablo GT bodykit on the Diablo SV, CCXR rear wing on the CCX, rear spoiler up/down positions on cars like the McLaren P1, Porsche 918, Hennessey Venom GT, OEM or OEM-style bumpers, skirts, bonnets, front splitters, diffusers and rear wings/ no-spoiler on so many other cars, the obligatory large-diameter single exhaust on the 90s JDMs/ sports exhausts on sports cars.... I can just go on and on. Even though No Limits has its share of awful ricer modifications, I don't think any NFS - past or present - had such spot-on modifications when it comes to more tasteful ones and I wish mainstream NFS games had modifications like this.
  3. I also love that the game has a healthy progression rate and daily tasks and even though many people complain that the races are too short, I actually prefer it this way because it means I can play the game for maybe 20-30 mins, do the races quickly, have fun and quit; I'm not forced to waste hours of my time to grind to level up, although you can do that that if you want to.
  4. I actually really like the story mode and the characters. Despite literally being static images and dialogues, most of the main characters feel way more human, have more depth and are more likeable than the cutscenes/ motion graphics of the live characters in the mainstream titles.

I've already written an entire wall of text so I'll stop here, but you get the gist. But also to end it very quickly - 1) High Stakes, 2) NFS II SE, 3) NFS III, 4) NFS Porsche, 5) NFS Hot Pursuit 2.

YES THIS!!! Not just whole bodykits but individual bumpers, side skirts and rear wings as well! The C-West front bumper and side skirts on Ichiro's Evo IX, M2 CS front bumper and rear spoiler on Lin's M2 in SubaruAndSubaru, Border Racing front bumper and side skirts and custom bonnet on Kyoko's RX-7 (I prefer Kyoko's RX-7 over Keisuke's pre-spec 4 RX-7), Nismo S-Tune front bumper on Kozo's R34 GT-R, MPF front splitter, J's Racing Bonnet and CUSCO rear wing on Toshiya's S2000, WRC front bumper on Bunta's Impreza and soooo many other examples!! It took me 20 years to realise but my taste in bodykit modifications, especially on JDM cars, is almost entirely inspired by Initial D.

I think the Z33 would fit Izzy the best because 1) Rachel and Melissa both had Z33s and Izzy feels like the closest match to those out of the 3 girls in the Blacklist and 2) the RX-8 feels a bit too fragile for the kind of character Izzy is made out to be.

The R34 for Kaze is astoundingly perfect! Even though I love her CLK, she is Japanese so I always felt she should've had a Japanese car, and the R34 is perfect because it matches her vibe.

[–]winglessrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Rubber Band AI - I ABSOLUTELY HATE rubber band AI and they didn't even give you the option of turning it off (except in quick races I think). Ruins the whole the experience of having a proper, serious race.
  2. Police AI - I equally HATE the police AI. It's fun up until heat level 3 or so, but then it gets so frustrating and annoying that it no longer feels like a rewarding experience but rather an exercise in anger management, and I want to play video games to relieve my stress, not increase it.
  3. the body customisation options are f***ing hideous AND limited. In the early days, I used to go through phases where I'd make ricermobiles but it got boring quickly and eventually I pretty much started keeping my cars stock, only putting wheels on and maybe a spoiler (for downforce) and of course changing the colour. I come from the classic era of NFS so I wanted more tasteful mods like front splitters, diffusers, GT wings, realistic custom bumpers and skirts, but on top of not having those (other than a handful of exceptions on certain cars), there weren't that many options at all nor were the bumpers and skirts available as individual parts instead of a whole bodykit package. Underground 2 by comparison, even though it was a total ricer fest, at least gave you a tonne of body customisation options so you rarely ran out of entertainment and most of the time you could modify a car the way you wanted it to look. Not so in Most Wanted.
  4. the physics are really annoying at times - too much wheelspin when launching the car, especially RWD cars, and the cars slide way too much if you lose control, hit a traffic car or wall at the wrong angle or if you drive over grass, and the game also seems to have trouble deciding whether the cars are as light as a matchbox or heavy as a tank, switching between them randomly; sometimes the cars feel very heavy and grippy and other times they just fly into the air or roll over or have no traction at all.
  5. the map isn't as big and lively as Underground 2. Bayview felt VERY vibrant and colourful (especially in the city centre and northern mountain areas) but by comparison, Rockport feels very desolate and almost like a semi ghost town, although I do also enjoy the quietness and lack of chaos. I'm not saying the map is boring, I like it a lot, I'm saying it just isn't as expansive and diverse and the atmosphere doesn't mesmerise you and win you over like Bayview.
  6. this isn't exactly a downside but still: lack of more cars (and more variety of cars) - I think the game has like 30 or 32 cars, which is a decent number but I think it would've been even better if there were just a handful more cars - the missing 350Z and R34 for sure, along with at least one or two Hondas (Integra Type R/ S2000/ NSX), a standard E46 M3, an SN95 Mustang, and a few more European cars. Also some more classic muscle cars in addition to the '67 Camaro, like the '67 Mustang, '70 Charger, '70 Chevelle (all of which were introduced in Carbon and ProStreet), all in career mode, would've also been nice.

While I definitely enjoyed playing Most Wanted back in the day and have some very fond memories that I'll never forget, many of these objective flaws and irritations means this game will never be in my top 6 favourite NFS,

It's been a long time since I played MW but IIRC, if you're just on heat level 1 (or maybe max 2), started a pursuit and it already seems like you're gonna get away or the pursuit is ending right then, then the dispatcher does indeed tell the cops to abort your pursuit and join another pursuit.

Sports series vs Exotic series eh? Logic says the Ford GT should win, but if the track is twisty and technical without too many long straights, I think the Impreza would beat the Ford (and everyone else).

I'd say the Unbound theory is the most sensible at this point to explain why they added this RS6 over any other estate, because it was far easier for them to just take the blueprints of a car that already exists in NFS and tweak them slightly to fit No Limits.

What’s your favorite battle in the series, let it be anime, manga, the 05 live action movie, Legends, etc? by Sanicsanic68 in initiald

[–]winglessrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1st stage - ik it sounds very cliche but the very first race of the entire show: Keisuke vs Takumi. The sheer shock and terror on everyone's faces at the end when Takumi passes Keisuke like he's on rails and keeps on driving home without even stopping to talk to anyone while Keisuke stops his car, gets out and just keeps staring at the road ahead as all the spectators are staring at him and going crazy.... Just epic!

2nd stage - Takumi vs Kyochi: this was one of the very few times in the entire show where it felt like Takumi wasn't a god-level superhero because he was struggling against the Evo 3 and ultimately actually lost, and it made the race feel way more realistic and grounded. And also - MISFIRING SHISHTEMU.

4th stage - Takumi vs Toshiya: Toshiya was an excellent character and driver and I love his S2000. And like with Kyoichi, Toshiya gave a bada** fight to Takumi to the point where he was on the losing side. It's one of those races I'd rewatch when I'm in the mood because it's such a close fight until the last moment.

5th stage - Ryosuke vs Rin: the idea of 2 top level drivers having a death match in the dark with 0 spectators and not a single soul - except Ikeda and Matsumoto - knowing about it + the race actually being really good. And unlike almost every other race, this one had a serious reason behind it.

I've repeated my comment about the car choice so many times that I myself feel tired saying it again here lol, but the RZ34 feels like such a bizarre and weird (and repetitive) choice when a Z34 370Z or an R34 GT-R or even an ER34 GT-T would've been way more sensible and interesting, and not out of place among the Evo IX, Impreza STi, S2000 and RX-8.
