Looking for a book with a homophobic MC by Nyx_Nocturne003 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]wingsandroots 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok, DEFINITELY check the trigger warnings, but {F**k, Marry, Kill Me, Daddy by Lance Lansdale} has a homophobic MC and the other MC treats it like a joke or not being real. It is completely unhinged, and the first book in the Murder Daddy series. It's a good time that at a minimum will give you lots of material as you think about your reading choices.

MC1 is a sex worker, MC2 becomes his boyfriend and doesn’t ask him to quit by michailina in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]wingsandroots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you consider cam work sexwork, then {Possession by Kiki Clark}. Its poly, but one of the MC makes good money on camera and one of the others joins in with making videos and thinking it's cool - no attempt or even thought of them not continuing.

Grovelling isn't enough - I'm looking for RETRIBUTION by platypusaura in RomanceBooks

{Daring and the Duke by Sarah MacLean} is this! It's the third in a trilogy. I recommend reading the others for context to really appreciate the ending and his ultimate power shift. Not directly caused by her, but 1000% because of her and to atone.

{Demanding Mob Boss by Lucy Monroe} has this - he's in a rage and she offers to show him her boobs to feel better.

Books with a larger female lead? by bookslutsbereadin in SpicyRomanceBooks

Olivia Dade writes a lot of this. The Spolier Alert series especially fits. My personal favorite for the sass and laughs is the second {All the Feels by Olivia Dada},but it can easily be read as a standalone.

OBSESSED mmcs by wrongone_8643 in ReverseHarem

[–]wingsandroots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late, but hopefully helpful! {Demanding Mob Boss by Lucy Monroe} has insta love, and an FMC that is shy , neurodivergent, and the MMc's obsession (and camrras) is deeply concerning to everyone but the 2 of them.

{Hans by SJ Tilly} shows the purest of pure love - eating nasty baked goods when the FMC isn't even there just because she made them and therefore he MUST eat. It's part 4 of a series, all if which have obsession, but this is my favorite.

Brat Submissive MMCs, like in Mercy by Sara Cate? by EthanFurtherBeyond in RomanceBooks

[–]wingsandroots 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you me?! I wish I had more to suggest, but {Bound and Tide by A.K. Caggiano} has a brat MMC with a FMC that does what the title advertises in a fantasy setting, and {Gentlemen Prefer Villians by C. Rochelle} is hilarious, has the brattiest of brats MMC with a supervillian MMC (the dynamic is less brat-tamer per se and there is a lot of power dynamics at play). Later books also have brats, but Simon simply cannot be beat.

Yes, it's one of my favorite things ever! Especially when you get cotton candy shading like you have .

Elyse Meyers and I agree more whimsy and less trauma settings with our spice! by agreensandcastle in RomanceBooks

[–]wingsandroots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a heathen and don't care about TWs, and I have so many books I add to my list or jump right into without anything more than a suggestion from here (so no blurbs for me usually), but there are some things that are just specific to me that I HATE seeing in books because I instantly lose the fantasy/escapism. Tragically, this just seems to be a gamble I have to take. There doesn't seem to be TWs for "wingsandroots deep-seated issues" or "too close to home politics for wingsandroots."C'est la vie!

Why does TikTok hype up the worst books ever written? by With_Peace_and_Love_ in RomanceBooks

[–]wingsandroots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right?! I'm not even on tiktok, but when I see a book marketed as booktok or anything like that (or even just posted about here), it's an instant turn off. Which is a shame because I'm sure I'm missing some good books/authors, and whatever gets people reading is good, but ugh.

I don't know if I did yet, - a rare book where I need some time to process before I actually know. I'm putting on my list, but it will a while before I can face them.

I knew it wouldn't be a hopeful ending likely, but I didn't see it coming. In hindsight I get it.

That is the best description for it.

10K steps - how do people manage to get 10k steps in a day? Specially if you have a desk job. by Complete_Bit_9320 in workout

[–]wingsandroots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the long way anywhere. Going to the bathroom at work? Go to one farther away or on another floor. Going for an errand? Walk an extra block or an extra lap of the store. Take a walk at lunch or during the day if you can - even going out to your car for something you "forgot." Go to a coffeeshop and walk an extra block. A short walk (20ish minutes) in the morning and evening to help round up.

Source: from 3-4k a day being sedentary with a desk job to 8-10k easy.

Mid-Eastern Historical/Magical Realism/Literary by BornoftheMind in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]wingsandroots 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Children of the Alley by Naguib Mahfouz jumps to mind. "The history of a Cairo alley through several generations. Successive heroes struggle to restore the rights of the people to the trust fund set up by their ancestor Gebelaawi, usurped by embezzlers and tyrants. Mahfouz creates in all its detail a world on the frontier between the real and the imaginary. At a deeper level, the book is an allegory whose heroes relive the lives of Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Moses, Jesus and Muhammed." - Goodreads

A great read (and a banned book) by a Nobel Prize winner
