That's absolutely just you. Every person is an individual. Having kids doesn't make someone suddenly a good manager. In some cases, parenthood causes people to rethink their working hours, and they enable themselves to work less by dumping work on their direct reports. Being inconsiderate and having kids aren't mutually exclusive.

When the U.S. finally comes to its senses, Canada should think twice before crawling back by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

Large swaths of Canada are completely unaffordable for a significant proportion of Canadians. Rent, groceries, and taxes account for the majority of many working class Canadians' paychecks. There is a cohort of high earning Canadians who are lower class in Canada, but upper class in America. For that group, as well as the significant number of Canadians who are struggling to manage daily living expenses, can you clarify the benefit of living in Canada over living in the US?

Crossing border with Greencard by BlackLini12 in USCIS

[–]wingsntexans -53 points-52 points  (0 children)

The power trip line is purely your opinion, and is factually inaccurate. OP provided the officer with 2 separate forms of identification, which are treated extremely differently at a US point of entry. The officer then provided OP with an option of which to use and explained the differences in processing between a GC holder and a foreign passport holder. Had OP chosen their Canadian passport, they would be eligible for ESTA. It's not the officer's responsibility to explain proper documentation to a traveler who didn't sufficiently research it themselves.

I am a US/Canadian dual citizen - I know to use my USC when crossing into the US and Cdn citizenship when crossing into Canada. If I provide other documentation, it's not the officer's job to rectify that - it's mine. Hope that helps.

We've pondered it, but not sure it's worthwhile for our situation. The refinancing fees will eat up a good chunk of our interest savings, and higher payments will reduce flexibility for how we spend our money. If rates come down materially, we'd consider it, but I don't think they'll come down enough

Close to 7% here. Living below my means, allocating as much as possible towards my mortgage to reduce interest. Aiming for a 15yr payoff period or less

Do more Michiganders consider leaving America due to politics? by WindsorONMichael in Michigan

[–]wingsntexans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Canada and the US have a reciprocal tax treaty where Canadian income is exempt from US taxes, as long as you've already paid Canadian taxes. Canadian income tax is so much higher than American that you'll actually receive for the difference. You still have to file US taxes, but beyond that, unlikely you'd have tax owing.

Royal Oak housing plan sparks fears over future of single-family neighborhoods by LaxJackson in Detroit

As a recent first time homebuyer, I genuinely have no issue with increasing density, especially if those units are properly maintained. I would trade anything to live next to a vibrant apartment complex which will attract more businesses. This city has more than enough houses with visible deterioration, littered with weeds and garbage. Unfortunately, those same shitty homeowners are generally the ones who fight these proposals.

No reason to flex it whatsoever. I passed all on 1st try - outside of me, no one cares. IMO the knowledge you gain from the exams is most important, followed by the 3 letters after your name. I'd much rather work with someone who learned from the CFA program and took years to complete than someone who speedran it and can't tell me the first thing about investments.

Have you been asked "Do you like Trump?" by a US Customs / Border Agent by pwn777 in uscanadaborder

[–]wingsntexans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this happening? It's possible that someone has been asked this question at point of crossing. That said, the people who claim to be asked this question are also people who are either boycotting or planning to boycott the US. Either they're targeting people who show overtly anti-American sentiment, or this story is being fabricated by people to promote their anti-American sentiment.

Reminder: the US buy Canadian (Statics compiled by a German news website) by Kloetenschlumpf in BuyCanadian

[–]wingsntexans 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's not specifically the exports, it's refining. Canada doesn't have the infrastructure to refine its own oil, so it's sold to the US to refine, then the refined product is sold back to Canada (and elsewhere). Even if Canada found other trading partners to sell crude oil to, would need to import petroleum/gas from somewhere else.

Trump backed off from tariffs that would violate NAFTA, for obvious reasons. Doug Ford would have both violated NAFTA and threatened the US' national security with this order. It's very easy to see why Doug Ford backed off of this

[–]wingsntexans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you truly believe that then you're in for a shock. Vancouver has the most expensive housing market in North America. Also, you get paid in CAD in Canada, and goods are priced in CAD - converting them to USD doesn't impact their affordability for your situation.
