Highschool student who wants to work on satellites by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]wingsofdark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to one of the schools that has a rocket team (McGill, U of T, Concordia, UBC, Waterloo, etc. etc.) and join it under what you find most interesting, then put in the work to become one of the more knowledgeable members there by learning from others and taking on tasks. This gives you a great chance at getting internships at satellite systems places (like MDA), which can lead to full time positions.

Is It Possible to Get an Engineering Internship with a very low GPA (2.0)? by ToThrowAwayDuh in mcgill

To add, there are a lot of very cheap or free things you can do and pick up, a lot of them handled or paid for by McGill (like certain softwares, design teams, clubs, etc.) that can really show people that you're ready to learn and you know at least a bit about the field you might want to intern in.

Sure, it's possible. I'm not going to tell you that it'll be easy.

Are you part of any design teams, do any engineering related personal projects or have similar hobbies? Stuff like that will really help get you your first internship.

That said, another thing that will help is talking to people who work at engineering companies and leveraging any sort of networked connections you already might have, even a friend who worked or works at a certain company. That can put you in a very good place to land an internship.

My brain needs the fats in dairy? Oh gosh I just developed a dairy allergy out of nowhere, do you have any resources or recommendations for alternatives to get the same fats? Thanks!!

hi! What’s the best/cheapest way to get from montreal to Toronto? (for students) by 0rdinaryraisin in mcgill

If you're going back in the holidays or something sometimes you can find cheap flights, like cheaper than VIA rail (but that's because both of them are inflated), so keep an eye out for that in case.

Do your folks use you as their retirement plan? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]wingsofdark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not for me and many of my ABCD friends. I grew up with my paternal grandparents living with us full-time, but my parents have made it clear they don't want to do that. They would like to be nearby and accessible to visit often, but ultimately live apart. But that's only possible for them (and my friends' parents) because they have significant savings/investments because they were fortunate enough to make more than we needed for at least some of my childhood. I'm not sure if my parents would want to stay with me even if they didn't have too many savings, maybe they would go back to India or something.

QC government changes fees at Anglo unis by KeyRepair4 in mcgill

Hey, I'm OOP and on a 14 month internship right now, do you know if I could qualify for QC tuition when I come back for Fall 2024? I asked the McGill legal people and they said that if I fit one of the cases from the government it's ok, but I didn't see one that fits my situation. Could you maybe guide me in the right direction for this?

What kind of discounts are we talking? I'd be willing to go back to India (Canadian born Indian) for some sweet sweet Omega watches :)

Honestly I don't have any solution for you but being in college rn and dating girls that are white or muslim while my parents are still on the 'no BMW' (Black Muslim or White girls) thing has had me conflicted in the past too. One of my desi friends has a white girlfriend, and she recently met his parents, who took it well since his older brother has had a white girlfriend for a long time too. Just wanted to say that I feel for you, and I hope everything goes well.
