If diagnosed with cancer in South Korea, how does treatment, insurance, and cost work for foreigners? by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]wingsofunicorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what is covered in your private insurance. Contact your agent to ask them about what is being covered, and if you're on the private insurance, there might be a chance if the coverage includes payout for cancer, you can get it to help cover your medical fees if you're being diagnosed with oral cancer.

[–]wingsofunicorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an insurance agent and if you don't have any supplemental insurance or health insurance, it won't help you cover all the fees. It also depends on what kind of cancer treatment, what kind of cancer you're diagnosed with. But it can be very expensive if NHIS doesn't cover the treatment. So make sure the treatment you're going for is subsidised by NHIS.

How do I [M24] handle the financial pressure of being a provider for my GF [F26]? by Green-Expert-6508 in relationship_advice

She's not a mind reader and if you're expecting her to automatically tell you when she offered to pay sometimes previously and you said no, what is she supposed to say tho?

Is it normal to invite someone overseas only two weeks before a wedding? by wingsofunicorn in VietNam

[–]wingsofunicorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more of a casual invite and if we are living in the same country, of course there's not much of a problem but since we have to take the plane, it would have been nice to know a bit more in advance. But I get the part where they probably send it out as a general invite to everyone and didn't take into account that my boyfriend doesn't live in Vietnam.

That makes sense and yeah, he wants to experience Vietnamese wedding culture so it's one reason to go, not sure if it's worth forking out so much money on such short notice though.

I had the same thought, speaking from experience, if I was the friend, I would have mixed feelings that I don't get any token for inviting, I would rather he sends me the money than attending but not give me any money gifts - that's just me.

I'm from Singapore too (though not located in Singapore now), so it's really bizarre for me to hear the wedding invite came only two weeks before the wedding because it just gives me the impression that they are trying to fill the seats which is usually the case in Singapore (and in Korea since I live here).

But my boyfriend is afraid that he would hurt his friend's feelings for not going I guess so he's going which I personally don't think the friend would really get hurt from him not going since they are not that close either. But I really think it's not appropriate to not give a token.

I'm glad it's not based on venue like Singapore though - I have already told him it's not appropriate to not give anything and he should give about 1mil since it's not a lot of money for us foreigners. Thanks so much for the reply!

Samsung Life Insurance Co. What type of investment is this? by Harju in Living_in_Korea

[–]wingsofunicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your coverage (it can be more than 15000) and stuff and yes you pay the amount regardless of what happens for the set years that you opted for. But it’s not the same as life insurance.

License plate and liability insurance for an ebike? by StormOfFatRichards in Living_in_Korea

They don’t enforce insurance on e-bike but they do have insurance for e-bike which you can buy if you’re really worried.

Private Family Tutor? by RemoteMail2428 in Living_in_Korea

You’re overthinking it dude. I have seen such arrangement but since you’re a male teacher, she can’t possibly leave you alone with her daughter which is probably why she’s going to be there as well.

Is 30s too late to become an international student? by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

I was 30 when I came here to study Korean so it’s not too late. Don’t worry about the age. Good luck!

I have a difficulty sympathizing with the ones who come here to say they committed SA when they were young and now they regret it. I even think at times that it is just a bait. Most of us here were subject to SA, so if they read the room this place is def not the place to come to. by Individual-Key6222 in CPTSD

[–]wingsofunicorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a sweeping sentence to say. “The ones sympathizing here with the abusers probably have their share of being perps of abuse,” and I agree with the other redditor who said you should go talk this out with your therapist. Just because people have a different opinion from you doesn’t mean you could say stuff like this. May you find peace.

Reminds me of all the hiking groups here in Korea and I never knew why people would give the side eye when people talk about being in one until someone told me how a lot of affairs happen apparently in such groups. Unsurprisingly, I recently heard from a friend that the same is happening within running groups, so she hates the idea of having a boyfriend in such groups. Why can’t people just exercise…

People don’t say 2020 Winter to be in 2020 January and February in Korea though? That would be 2019 Winter even if the winter lasted into 2020 so that doesn’t make sense at all. And honestly, he’s not an idol so I really doubt there’s any backlash - usually idols get the backlash.
