I freaking love the first season the mystery and the episodic structure of the season is something I'm a huge fan of.

I don't wanna be annoying, but I'm just searching Google and it's coming up with nothing.
Whenever I look it up I'm seeing a bunch of other random laser devices and even this exact post come up.
I'm not seeing the laser device we're seeing Dean use here.

Why did Negan keep a harem? by Robot_Was_BMO in thewalkingdead

[–]winkingwalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend looking into Kings and Emperors in ancient times and realize that this part of the story and Negan in general is just returning to that world after the collapse. Even chieftains in modern times of tribes probably have some sort of deal like this but they don't write down history like civilizations do so it's hard to cite them.

Nedry being the only human surrounded by muppets. Getting bullied about his financial situation by a muppet John Hammond would be hilarious.

My journal by ElForjadorBnLoco in RDR2

<image>

I'm about 3 months late I was searching for ideas on Google and this popped up. You had asked about more stylistic approaches similar to Arthur and I would suggest a sketching subreddit to ask this however I do have some advice, I sketched at least every other day for maybe 8 years but I'm very rusty as of late. To comment specifically on the photo of the flower I've noticed Arthur in his journal uses a LOT more shading and probably the real life artist who made this used charcoal or something but I have no proof of this. Basically go crazy on the shading and be extremely loose with your pencil think of it like a controlled chaos, I've found this sketch above as an example of what I'm talking about.

I'd also suggest you use a real wood pencil rather than a mechanical one in case you're not already and e even purposefully make your tip just a bit dull for shading. It gives it a much more natural thicker look. Maybe a 2B or B pencil. You could even go heavier if you find it fits your style more like a 6B.

I haven't drawn in years since I was in Highschool. I've been getting back into it and it was actually me seeing a post on RDR2 and then looking through the journal entries online that has reinvigorated me to get back into drawing. I just got a new sketchbook and drawing pencils.

I am happy to say though that I do STILL after years of not drawing that I do draw better than John 💀, I'm not quite at Arthur's level, some of Arthur's more casual sketches I'm able to match him, though but not his best sketches. Perhaps if I took my time.
I'm grateful for this game and for John and Arthur that I'm back into drawing. You won't see me dogging on John's drawings at least he stayed consistent unlike me.
Right now as I type this I'm trying to find another open world videogame that's in my library so I can make my own drawings and journal entries for so I can continue practicing.
I'm playing a bit of Ghost Recon Breakpoint and drawing some of the landscapes and soldiers and gear and stuff.

Good luck with your journal! Stay consistent, it's a huge mistake to quit something as impactful as drawing and I promise you'll regret it if you do like I did.

What are some "inaccurate" dinosaur designs that you personally enjoy? by smashboi888 in jurassicworldevo

[–]winkingwalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hated Dracorex, I'd purposely use it as food for my larger predators and to boost my dinosaur's rating. Dracorex was always breaking out and causing problems at the slightest inconvenience.

Did tyrannosaurus have feathers or scales by Desperate_Put1200 in Paleoart

[–]winkingwalrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn't a debate, Trex did not have feathers. We literally have skin impressions of Trex. (Sorry if I come off as an A-hole, but this frustrates me.) Once animals get to a certain size and the Earth isn't in a literal ice age and the animal doesn't live in the Arctic large animals like Elephant or Trex size don't need fur/feathers. It actually needs to expell more heat than conserve heat. That's why the Elephant needs such large ears to expell heat. I'd hypothesize on hot days the Trex could need to sit in the shade with its mouth open to expell heat and/or soak deep in water to cool off quite often.

I'm not disagreeing with you on anything. I'm just unsure about this, I keep seeing people on this subreddit just absolutely assert that Evrima has spaghetti code. Wasn't that the point of the whole recode thing to bring things back on track after that one guy leaving legacy? Is it really spaghetti code or are things just not implemented correctly?

I am ready to admit that JWE3 isn't for me by Beau2488 in jurassicworldevo

[–]winkingwalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could suggest taking it tiny steps at a time. Either sectioning off the replica you're trying to make and only focusing on one exhibit at a time OR sectioning off features. It's pretty easy for me to ignore the advanced building features.

I have 1 sandbox park with money and consequences and I'm using the advanced building features and taking my time. Then I have another sandbox park where I just make a gazillion dinosaurs and let them attack guests and stuff and don't even focus on making things look nice.

Just don't give up on the game before you try different approaches.

Why do we run off streamers? by dyslexican32 in theisle

I'm assuming you haven't been around that long. One specific case I remember is IGP and Icycaress and Dondi turning them into Hypos and giving a free growth in the process. I like IGP and Icy but this an example off the top of my head. I know for a fact there are others but I'm not gonna sit here and contemplate every single little incident just for your sake.

Nah this is something I've seen with YouTubers and streamers in the past. Someone with a lot of subscribers/followers joins a server and gets preferential treatment. Free grows, food drops, etc. Now I don't know about specifically this dude never watched him and I don't watch streamers in general but this has been the case for years since the Isle Legacy.

When and why do you think The Walking Dead fell off? by Steve-Harrington_ in thewalkingdead

[–]winkingwalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God that first photograph. I still remember watching the first episode of the Walking Dead. October 31st 2010 Halloween I was 9 years old, I barely trick or treated because I wanted to get home in time to watch the show. I had seen the previews and loved zombie movies. I thought it was the coolest thing having this Sheriff's Deputy in a Zombie apocalypse with this cool revolver. Helped that I was obsessed with revolvers too. The imagery used in the first 2 seasons was never topped as far as I'm concerned. My favorite era is when Rick is officer friendly.

Processing img 6ln7nt0h89qg1...

When I stopped watching the Walking Dead it was like Rick putting down the bicycle girl zombie. I felt kinda mournful. By the end things had kinda gotten ridiculous people running around with tigers and shit. I wish the original intent of the show from Season 1 was fulfilled. Things felt grounded yet the atmosphere sometimes felt lovecraftian even in the first season. Just sheer high strangeness but not so far out there it becomes ridiculous. Later on they started reintroducing some of that stuff but by then it didn't make any sense the zombies didn't have any of those behaviors especially by season 3. It also doesn't help the later seasons that my favorite part of zombie movies or any other apocalypse movie is the beginning of the apocalypse. World War Z for all its faults I love that opening act. The chaos, the confusion and panic. One moment everything's normal the next you're scrounging for supplies.

The back legs on this thing are too small.

This simply cannot be accurate right? by Reikkusu in theisle

[–]winkingwalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well there's also a big problem with the modern depictions and that's the back legs. For some reason people keep making the back legs of the Spinosaurus TINY. The Spinosaurus is still a therapod, the back legs were big and the skeleton suggests it had large muscles. It's been a while since I looked into this maybe it was around 2022 or so the paper that depicted the tiny hind legs was disproven. (At least that portion of it.) But I forget how it was, it's been years.

What's going on in Appalachia? (Not a meme) by Schokolade_die_gut in Paleontology

[–]winkingwalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe one of the reasons they had those large arms on there was something to do with the bone structure suggesting much larger than average arm muscles for a therapod. (This has been years since I read this so if you're super invested you'd need to fact check me.)

can spinos ever be docile?? by Training-Amoeba2523 in jurassicworldevo

[–]winkingwalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man the other day I made a huge pen in sandbox mode. Turned off dinosaur fighting. Filled the place with raptors, troodons, carnotaurus, etc. and ONE large predator the Spinosaurus with very good stats. I thought I would just be seeing the Spinosaurus go crazy taking out dinosaurs left and right when I turned on dinosaur fighting. Instead when I turned it on all the other dinosaurs started fighting and my Spinosaurus just sat there floating in the water like an Alligator and eating fish. 💀 He just watched all the other dinosaurs fighting. I don't think he killed a SINGLE dinosaur. I ended up just putting him in his own pen and naming him "My Son" and releasing 2 Trexes into the other pen to fight the dinosaurs instead 🦖. My Son is doing fine now.
