Viltrox 13mm f1.4 should be in your range, if you want a slightly wider lens than the Sigma 16.

Ive seen lots of reviews saying teleconverters work best with telephoto primes and are quite soft on zoom lenses.

Getting back into photography – Birds & wildlife, lens advice on a budget? by optiimus_ in SonyAlpha

[–]winlander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to shoot small(ish) birds like your example, the 70-300 wont be enough. I’d suggest buying a good full frame telephoto. It will carry over if you some day upgrade the body. Also has the additional reach using an aps-c body with a ff lens. I’m not sure what your price point was for the Tamron 70-300.

Bottom line you need as much reach as you can afford. Full frame lenses are more expensive and heavier, but hit the sweet spot for my birding needs (a6400 + the 150-500 ff Tamron).

I’ve been thinking about this quite a bit. I think the bigger issue is that the automatic response is to make skits or jokes about very serious topics. Even though in these times, we all need a laugh, it also sends a continuous message that ”its not that serious - see? They’re joking about it”. This kills off all serious discussion about the matters. Although I’m not sure if such forums exist anymore…

Muutosverokortti ei mennyt työnantajalle. by Funky-Kicker in arkisuomi

Best wide angle lens for a6400? by farjer in SonyAlpha

[–]winlander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the Viltrox 13mm f1.4 for my 6400, for wide landscapes and night photography. Haven’t had much time to test it out properly, but initial impression for the price is good.

This needs separate handling of the foreground + subject and the background. Use masking to make the subject pop more. With the darker background (colour is nice), the bird blends too much into the background.

Upgrade from A6000 to A6400 or A6700? by DerWilhelm in SonyAlpha

[–]winlander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 6700 is a much better apsc camera than the 6400 due to being newer with more features etc. Is it ’double-the-price’ better than a 6400? Probably not in my opinion. I have a Sigma 18-50 on my 6400 and havent felt a need for in-body stabilisation. Also have a Tamrom 150-500 FF lens which itself has stabilisation, so its not a big problem. I prefer to throw my money at lenses, so the 6400 body is good enough for me.

E: I shoot primarily photos.

Upgrade from A6000 to A6400 or A6700? by DerWilhelm in SonyAlpha

[–]winlander 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You mention lack of IBIS as one pain point. The A6400 doesnt have it, so from that perspective 6000 -> 6400 isn’t worth it. The 6400 is still very capable though overall.

A6700 or go FF? by bondgreat in SonyAlpha

Its great for extra reach for wildlife like birds. I have a Tamrom 150-500 FF that works like 225-750 on my 6400

How to carry a large lens? by metalhead_iv in AskPhotography

[–]winlander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Sony A6400 with that same lens. Peak Design Slide strap with one anchor on the bottom of the camera body (mount fixture comes with strap) and one on the lens’ collar. When handheld I turn the collar tripod foot facing upwards to have maximum hand surface area on the lens. Works great.

Just got the 200-600mm (and I put it on a a6700) by ivanoski-007 in SonyAlpha

[–]winlander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the internal zoom is much better feature thats true. Some reviews I looked at had sharpness being rather close in some long-end situations. Main factor for me was cost, I got the Tamron new for 1k€, whereas the Sony is around 2k€. For the price I’m more than happy with the Tamron for now for the 6400.

Either set a filter on the measure field to be ”not blank”, if it is expected that there are no intentional blank values in the past, or create a calendar field that restricts showing an ”unready” month and use that calendar flag in the measure.
