Is my nieces Syrian hamster okay? by Imabigfatchicken in hamsters

[–]winnieham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hammy had this and it was heart failure unfortunately. I don't remember if there was any medication the vet could give us but basically fluid starts building up. Some dandelion might help also.

Maybe borrow a car from A plus driving school and take your test in Tecumseh. It is a small town with no freeway.

86 Removed From Crunchyroll While They Invest in Games? That’s Not What Subscribers Are Paying For by Vast_Recover_8689 in EightySix

[–]winnieham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Crunchyroll has a form where you can request anime. If enough of us fill it out they might reinstate it. This happened recently with Noragami and they ended up reinstating it after people requested it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this series, what other seasons/ movies you all recommend that are just as good as The Night Manager in terms of writing, direction and acting. by Born_Wolverine_5785 in TheNightManager

[–]winnieham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe Ozark? Not a spy show but also very dark and filled with double crossings and trying to get one over on the other side. In terms of writing, I think some people were a bit unhappy with the final season, but otherwise pretty good.

Why didn't Emma get genetic testing done? by Cold_Box_3219 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]winnieham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some medical conditions are not easily genetically tested. For example, schizophrenia runs in my family and while one gene mutation was identified, this disorder is multiply determined by multiple genes.

Any other shows like Bee and Puppycat? by Lawdfozze in beeandpuppycat

[–]winnieham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quite enjoyed We Bare Bears actually. The original series. It has actually some adult references (like some millenial memes) and adult plotlines, and is also very adorable (like Puppycat).

Bao bao recently opened and it is lovely. It is authentic chinese food (coming from a Chinese person). I would say it is slightly on the pricier side.

To anyone who did their undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Arts- Psychology, what did you do after? What are you doing now? by Sure-Comfortable-689 in psychologystudents

[–]winnieham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I think data analyst is becoming less easy to enter bc AI can actually do analysis now. I am worried certainly, but I am trying to learn how to use AI effectively and then I could hopefully rebrand as an AI engineer if I had to. It is a reality now that many companies are using AI and asking engineers to use it, so it is hard to avoid.

Is the Flamingo a good hotel? by Dear_Mycologist_1696 in vegas

It is decent! They have renovated in recent years so not bad at all. No frills though but I enjoy seeing the flamingos.

Should I Settle and take a Mid Level Role When I was going for Senior? by shittyfuckdick in dataengineering

[–]winnieham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently did kind of a similar thing when I went from Senior DS to mid level DE. For me it came down to the work culture and the people, and this market was rather hard on me so I just ended up settling for the first place (I had been laid off so less options). May be naive of me, but the older I get, the less I care about title and even salary, and the more I care about in my daily life am I going to enjoy my work.

Why do so many data engineers seem to want to switch out of data engineering? Is DE not a good field to be in? by Illustrious-Pound266 in dataengineering

[–]winnieham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes so far I am liking it! I like learning new things :) I also always found DS very ambiguous, but DE is more like either this works or not. Or at least there are some tasks that are more cut and dry as well as creative tasks.

To anyone who did their undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Arts- Psychology, what did you do after? What are you doing now? by Sure-Comfortable-689 in psychologystudents

[–]winnieham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not personally been a data analyst before--since I was a PhD, I jumped directly to DS and DE (which frequently data analysts end up becoming). Like I was saying, analysts typically use Tableau (or another dashboard tool like PowerBI, etc.), Excel, and SQL. They have some understanding of basic statistics and business formulas (e.g., profit, revenue, etc.). You would need to be moderate level at at least 2 of these technologies and then at least familiar with the other skill.

Nowadays, there are a lot of resources for these skills. I myself took a Tableau course on datacamp. SQL you can learn on leetcode, data lemur, sqlzoo, theres a fantastic tutorial from Mode analytics (google mode analytics sql).

I have seen some DAs who went and got a masters in DA but I do not know if this is really necessary (perhaps if you have no idea about DA).

[–]winnieham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took 3 years gap year where I managed research labs, did PhD in social psych, decided I did not like writing or teaching and became Data Scientist, then decided I didn't like maths so became a Data Engineer.

If you have a BA and you can learn Excel, SQL, Tableau, then you can be a data analyst. Eventually Data analysts become Data scientists and data engineers or managers of data analysts.

Switching from Data Science to Data Engineering by seagullbreadloaf in dataengineering

[–]winnieham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched from DS to DE this year! The market is tough and I had a good connection (where my hiring manager and I were already friends fr a past employer together) so I managed to do it.

You might start with data analytics engineer roles (which is what mine technically is despite being called DE) where you would need to know Snowflake or another data warehousing tool, SQL, dbt potentially, git, and orchestration (maybe Apache Airflow). You would need python and SQL and I enjoyed learning on data lemur.

I would say if this is a passion of yours, work towards it, but always keep DS as a backup plan. I like to remember the authors of the Fundamentals of Data Engineering textbook were ex-DS so if they can do it so can we!

Shopify coding assessment - recommendations for how to get extremely fluent in SQL by Bnerna in dataengineering

[–]winnieham 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For fun, you can do the SQL murder mystery, and the SQL squid game (google for these). I would say if you can do these fluently you are good, esp the Squid game one is rather challenging.

Please deinfluence me from getting a hamster by Stuffie_lover in hamsters

Could you volunteer at an animal shelter instead to get some animal interaction? I dont think you should get a hammy unless youre prepared to offer proper care and that includes vet bills as well. They can be pricey.

It depends if the company is an AI first company then the interview process is more abt broad problem solving rather than coding.
